Warning: Spoilers! An analysis on how Christopher Nolan manipulates time in "Dunkirk". My first (proper) video essay! All rights go to Warner Brothers/Christopher Nolan.
This is movie has sooo much to explore and analyze if you are a film enthusiast. Which is funny cause some people thought this movie was dull, simple, and boring as if nothing happens. Which is the complete opposite for me.
True: when I watched and treated Dunkirk as an ordinary war movie the first time around, it sure felt straightforwardly boring and conventional, which I thought was unusual for a pure Nolan movie. You HAVE to see it thru Nolan's lens; that way, you will begin to appreciate the absolute brilliance of the director's vision and intentional execution.
I saw this movie yesterday, and before watching your video I didn't like the way the different sequences interact, but now it is much clearer : you decoded everything, exactly like a litterature teacher would do with a novel ! I will be more careful to those elements when I watch it again, and I am sure I will appreciate it even more. Thank you so much !
dont know if you guys cares but if you are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend these days xD
I loved every minute of your analysis Tobie, and as a cinema student myself I find this very interesting to watch and learn how to make well construct analysis
You summed it up very well. Time is both the technique and the theme. Time demonstrates human paranoia and their survival instinct. The technique also helps the audience to contextualise and subverts our assumptions of whats happening. And 6:36 explains this very well.
Nice video! I personally didn't love Dunkirk but I respect what Nolan was trying to do. I really wonder how different this film would have been if it was R-rated. It would have been more gut-wrenching but it probably would've been a little more conventional which Nolan didn't want.
This was a really really good video, u got a new sub. One thing tho, sometimes the music/movie sounds overlap ur voice so maybe you want to turn those sounds down a little
Fantastic. Good job. And loved your voice. All in one, this video should get a lot more views... But, the music here is much louder than your voice. Otherwise everything is awesome.
How is it possible that the destroyer 036 has crossed with the "Moonstone" (18 min. aprox.) , if it had already been sunk by the torpedo? Is there something I misunderstood?
