And honestly, if he wasn't paired with an extremely talented driver like Lando, people wouldn't be saying he had a slow end. I believe it's races like Britain, Belgium, and Qatar which heightened a lot of people's expectations for him by a significant amount, which is why I think the claim that he tailed off towards the end of the year is a bit unfair. The fact that he was able to match his teammate at so many races (and make fewer mistakes, despite being a rookie) shows some pretty powerful signs of what's to come.

and most of the time it wasn't even his fault that his end of the season was slower Austin-Ocon crashes into him and he has to retire -> DNF Mexico-his pace was not too bad, he mostly held his position for the entire race, Yuki crashed into him after 2/3 of the race and his car had significant damage after mclarens statement after the race -> P8 Brazil-qualifying in the apocalypse and getting hit by the 3 car incident in the beginning and being a lap down at the restart -> P14 Las Vegas-he was P3 at one point but was screwed over by mclarens tyre strategy -> P10 + fastest lap AbuDhabi-good qualifying and was close to Lando (P5) in the race -> P6 // => in at least 3 of these races he was definitly not at fault for being slower/having bad results (and they're not even that bad)

Oscar had some truly dreadful luck in the last several races too. It felt like half the grid was out to crash into him

And people failed to mention he was driving new tracks for him in the 2nd half of the season.

I mean he was flying in Vegas despite getting screwed on strategy and starting at the back. He wasn't too bad in Abu Dhabi either. I think it's not highlighted enough just how much he got screwed and how bad his luck has been this season. Two or three races in a row he pitted right before a safety car and at least half of the grid has crashed into him at some point and it wasn't even his fault - Sainz, Ocon, Pierre, Hamilton, Kmag, Tsunoda, Perez and there's probably a few more I'm forgetting.

@@iasonasboidanis3622 The limit after wear is at most 1 mm removed, they measured at Hamilton's car 2-3mm removed (in other words: the plank was at the central part between 7 and 8 mm). That is between 20% and 30%.

That was the destruction of Stroll for the majority of the season. He started well (especially since he had broken wrists!), Alonso starts with the comments based on watching the big screen (at 200+ mph!), and he goes to pot until the end of the season. I knew (and predicted) that Alonso would play headgames with the Stroller. My only conspiracy theory thought is that Stroll Sr put him up to it. He must recognise that Jr would probably do far better in WEC or similar (and that's not me knocking WEC, it's a totally different skill and I love it. I'm actually paying Jr a compliment) and he wants Alonso to push him to retire from F1. The headgames seemed to stop when Jr "threatened" to go play tennis instead. Daddy Warbucks was probably horrified by the idea so he told Alonso to can it! This is purely a possibility based on what I know about the characters involved. I'm not saying it _really_ happened!
