As an AA woman who hails from an incredibly toxic family system, I have struggled a LOT in life. Everything I did was self reliance. It took time to trust others to be there for me and accept the help that came my way because due to my trauma with family, I was relationally challenged. But when I start grad school for MFT, I know I will really have to rely on the connections I worked so hard to build, knowing it will be my turn to help someone one day! Thanks for this video!

@@Keep_On_Growing I want to do everything!! Haha. But my main goal is to work as a public historian and independent journalist (for the second time) and produce better work (and maybe even consult). My focus is Black women in the southern US and Spanish speaking Latin America. Like you mentioned here, I'm passionate about my community, and I've been thinking about tutoring others in English/Spanish as well, once I'm qualified because it's so needed to be able to communicate.

Love your videos! Do you have any tips on how to take better notes when reading the textbooks in grad school for counseling psychology? What ways would be beneficial to prepare one for future sessions and future exams? 🫶 thank you You’re so inspiring

Thank you so much!🥹🫶🏼 For sure first figuring out what kind of learner you are (visual, auditory…etc.) and then timing-wise are you able to concentrate best during lecture if you take notes during or separately when you do the readings. Bonus points if your professors are nice and let you know what info to focus on in the readings or on their ppts. But because there’s so much info it’s impossible to read every single reading so skimming is going to be your best friend. Focusing on key terms and key passages. I used to only write what was new to me and I needed to memorize because I learn best that way and would try to be efficient because I had such little time when I worked while in school. Definitely make your notes make sense for you and think what will help me memorize this. Do I need to have a visual or watch a video for this. Personally I think the best way to write/type notes is to just have them make sense to you. If you learn best through annotating as you read definitely do it but focusing on key topics so you don’t spend all your time studying because the readings can definitely be aggressive at times. (Also if a reading isn’t going to be tested on, again just conserve your time and energy). So focusing on learning as you’re note taking over just note taking so you feel like your time is being used intentionally and like you’re retaining the information. I hope that helps a bit, everyone might have a different opinion though.
