How crews are clearing steep hurdles to pave Atlanta Motor Speedway

It's weird seeing the old non safer barrier walls after so long.

It will be so awesome and fulfilling for these workers to come back and watch the race next spring after they're all finished. Great to hear some interviews from the crew on the ground. Really glad to see a repave without progressive banking too, just a straight up 28 degrees of racing surface. Gonna be exciting.

My old boss, Don Colbert in the Florida Keys will love that. He's a hard core die hard NASCAR fan who records every race if he's out in his boat fishing or snorkeling or not.

NASCAR needs more than a re-pavement, they need new management

I just hope the racing improves as much as they think it will. I’ve always loved the old weathered surface of AMS. Was the first cup race I ever went to.

I as an individual that has worked a tiny bit with asphalt and concrete and knows how it sets and how fast you have to work it and all of that I really appreciate what these guys are doing and none of the blame and I mean zero of the blame is going to go on them if they're racing sucks but if it does great it probably won't be because of them either I just hope that they like what they're doing and enjoy the process of that work because if they don't enjoy it then I doubt the product will be as good as it would be if they loved it... If that makes sense but also is a Nascar fan I really appreciate the hard work you guys are putting in thank you

Man the new surface could have produced great racing if NASCAR actually gave the cars power... Now its just gonna be full throttle on the bottom all race...

It used to be an oval track which I liked and thought it wasn't cookie cutter. But I'm old ... oh well.

I have a couple ways of getting the black top in the paver without the conveyor much faster too

28 degrees of banking sounds like a good move. As long no progressive banking or whatever was done at Bristol and Homestead does not happen again.

I work in an industry that does paving but not race tracks. So I always wondered how they pave on a slope like this. And now I know.

I checked some of the testing footage today, looks pretty good. Can't wait to go in March.

Do any of you guy's remember that originally the banking at Atlanta was 33 degree's!!! So why are you making such a big deal with the (new 28 degree's of banking??? I was there in 1988 in the spring, I saw it myself. All they keep doing is making changes, not sure if it is for the better or worse??

If every track in Nascar made the changes that Atlanta made, it would be much better

I think the next track for me is that going to need repaved is Michigan and needs to at at least °7 to °10 in the banking.

No doubt the increased banking in the turns along with the added grip that the new track surface will have will lead to faster speeds around the tracks.

I would hate to know what the bill is!

So, are they using special pavement that's at the correct temperature when compacting the pavement? In 2021 I miss the technological advances made to be certain of the end result. But all I hear is trail and error.

Next repave Homestead and give it a few more degrees of banking. Then that track will be complete.

This isn’t a repave. This is a complete overhaul for no reason. I understand the repave but not every track needs steep Daytona banking. You’d think nascar would learn after what happened with texas

Wonder why they dont use that asphalt or concrete that doesnt hold water..? Where you can run a hose on it and just goes right through.. would think thatd be ideal for tracks.. guess the rubber and sticky goop would just clog up the works anyways..

I drove 8 hot laps there and it was a tooth rattling ride in a couple of places. However it was still an awesome experience.

It's going to be slippery and dangerous no matter what they do. Flat F1 circuits are problematic. 28 degree banking 🙄 Must tune in.
