Thanks for covering this story. When corporations like this control our access to legal anime, there is no reason not to pirate everything you can. If you want to support the animators of your favorite shows, you are much better off just buying some merch or blu-rays.
Please God let this be the final nail in the coffin for Crunchyroll, to kill off it's subscriber base, to die off in the same way Rooster Teeth is dying.
It’s funny that I know you as the mha/rezero guy But this just reminded me how my first video of yours was actually the video on Mob’s dub voice actor controversy I honestly forget that was you sometimes. Idk, you talked in the community notes and on streams about how bad non-mha videos do, and while true, I think it’s easy to forget the reach even the failed videos may have (Not saying the mob one was a flop) just that you never know who the “off theme” videos can attract. I can’t even imagine this year without your channel being apart of it anymore, so while the turnout won’t always bang, this very well might be the beginning of branching out into a new era for this channel. Is just food for thought, great videos as always, you never know what the more abstract stuff will attract!
This is what Fujitora fought against. Crunchyroll is the Warlord of the pirate world, working with law yet still wildin out when left to its own devices. Only question is, "Which One Piece warlord matches this best?" (I say Moriah for the hit-and-run nature of this)
i got an email from them but i thought that it was a scam so i searched. I hadnt been using crunchyroll at all since 2020 when i discovered what they did, and also cuz i couldnt access the episodes i wanted. Happy pirate here
0:45 Lady, you signed a contract. This isn't some Two and a Half Men Million Dollars per episode gig. Until we reach a point in life where Anime is on TV and in every major networks that even retirement home people watch it worldwide, y'all getting $500-$1200. (Read your contracts, they can't predict 100% of the time if a show that does well in Japan will do well in U.S. Markets.)
When it looked like Funimation and Crunchyroll were merging I was really hoping the Funimation would buy CR since it was such a shit company, and to see the opposite happen was the biggest disappointment. It always seems like CR will find a way to hurt it's customers and employees and I really hate that they have such a big part of the anime community.
Ah shiii- He did it! I remember hearing about the thing with Mob’s english VA! So he really did sue them?! wooooo (though it is a shame it had to come to this at all.)
It’s crazy how people are still gonna pay for Crunchyroll despite all of this information being out there and continue crying about the ghosting/dimming in Jujutsu Kaisen lol
If you want to give back to the animators, merch and blue ray or any physical release might be the way to go. Which kind of sucks cuz what happens if someone makes something you think is just fine…but you don’t want to buy anything from it. I want to give back but….
Unfortunately there isn't crunchyroll might as well be a monopoly things like Hulu Netflix and Disney + have smaller and more exclusive catalogs and even hi dive It's closest competitor is still relatively small
