Cyrax was turned into a cyborg against his will by Sektor and the traitor Lin Kuei who were loyal only to Bi-Han(Noob Saibot), Shao Khan and Quan Chi.

Cyrax refuse to become cyborg and plans to leave the Lin Kuei. But Sektor had no choice, to brainwash Cyrax and the rest of Lin Kuei warriors while they're in human form. It's the sign that they turn into cyborg while in mind control. Jax uses his knowledge to reprogram Cyber Sub-Zero as the real one, and Kuai Liang did the same thing to Cyrax and then Cyrax joined Sub-Zero to stop the Cyber Initiative.
