How Dana K White's game-changing cleaning technique changes everything! Clean With me!
Dana K White just flipped my cleaning world upside down! I couldn’t understand why cleaning always felt like a mountain I had to climb, I couldn’t understand why my house would get flipped upside down so frequently, I couldn't understand why I couldn’t stick to a routine, there's a lot of things I couldn’t understand when it came to keeping a clean house LOL that was until now! I watched Dana K White’s RU-vid video called “The Layers of a clean house (why cleaning feels so hard)” and after watching her video and her explaining that there are layers to a clean house…all of the sudden everything made sense, the puzzle pieces all came together! I came to so many realizations from this video that I had to talk about it! I also demonstrated the layers of a clean house in today's video, so there's a ton of cleaning motivation in today's video as well. Please be sure to check out Dana’s RU-vid Channel & video, I will have that linked down below, I’m also linking her website and books down below. Dana isn’t just a RU-vidr, she also has a blog, podcast, printables, you can sign up for her newsletter, she's an author (see here books linked below) plus more. She does it all! I really hope you enjoy today's video, thanks for watching and being here with me friend!

Dana, Cass, and Dawn are the decluttering/cleaning/organizing/minimalism holy trinity! I've incorporated Dana's dishes before bed and container methodologies, Cass's organizing style for me (I'm a ladybug), and Dawn's ideas about clutter and minimalism into my life, and I'm so thankful for them!

I feel so bad, i never realized you weren't doing daily tidying. Yes, 15 to 20 minutes per day will keep your home picked up and ready to clean. The habit of putting things away immediately will come from doing it everyday, Eventually you'll start putting items away every use. I always wondered why your rooms imploded between videos. Unfortunately, we naturally organized people do not even think about this as a chore. The routine has always been a habit, and it's done automatically every day. If you can do a pick up everyday, and complete your daily non-negotiables (dishes, laundry, wiping the bathroom down). Your house will always be company ready. Projects will get completed faster, and you will see a major difference. ❤

That’s exactly how I am, thought I was alone on this. I’m 65+ and think that it goes back to childhood, the basics. We were always taught if you open a door, close it, if you get something out, put it away, if it’s dirty it goes in the hamper, etc so now that I think about it, it’s simply living what we were taught. I try to tell my grandkids this all the time but I get that rolling eyeball look like I’m nuts 😂 but I don’t give in to it.

I agree with this. I'm so sorry that I never voiced that too. I made it a routine to do those "layer cleaning" every day so that I can keep up with my house. It's become such a routine that I don't think about it, lol. However recently my house did "blow up" as I was sick. Thankfully my husband and daughter helped by keeping the kitchen clean for me. I just did a video on that myself. Danni great video. I'm so glad you found Dana K's channel that will inspire you. We all need that certain thing to inspire us. Thank you for sharing Danielle 😘

You should also try the “never leave a room empty handed trick”. If you are going to another room check to see if there is anything that needs to go there like dishes, etc. Do the same if you are going to the basement, etc. It’s also a life changer. Great video Danni. Still laughing at the “honey bun” comment. 🤣😂

Danni, about that vase you were fiddling with and couldn’t figure out why you didn’t like it? You thought it “didn’t look right”. This is because you are supposed to REMOVE it. If it doesn’t look right, don’t try to fix it, just store it away. It’s almost always the solution. You won’t miss it. No one will miss it. Leave the space empty. You’ve been decluttering so well that your eye is getting more refined and more comfortable with seeing empty spaces. Embrace that. I think you are doing great.
@ikrobiee

No! No storing, only declutter
@jeanmariemclain2836
@jeanmariemclain2836 5 месяцев назад
@@ikrobiee You are absolutely right. I stand corrected. She still has waaay too much stuff. I was being gentle on her because decor items are one of her weak spots and there is a better chance she will store it at first rather than outright get rid of it. Whenever I see these kinds of useless decor items I think to myself, “That used to be your MONEY.” Can anyone really afford to buy this useless stuff? What purpose was served by that boring vase of dried branches? Was it just to fill that corner? Waste of money. Offensive to the eye. Out! Don’t buy this kind of stuff. Danni has a buying-addiction that she learned from her mother. She hasn’t outgrown it yet but she’s working on it.

I can't follow a cleaning routine to save my life BUT I have figured out what my daily non-negotiables are and I pair them with other activities that I do every single day. I haven't read his book but I think this idea of habit stacking is covered in "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. After I wake up and eat, I pair that daily activity with getting the dishes caught up and wiping the counters and stovetop. That basic kitchen reset has the biggest impact for making my home functional. After my tea break when I bring the mug back to the kitchen, I'll do a cleaning task in there. At some point in the day when I use the bathroom, I do a cleaning task in there. Basically, I try to leave each room in better shape than when I entered it... make the bed and deal with laundry to reset the bedroom, straighten up the furniture and dust an area of the living room (sometimes just using my hands if retrieving a cloth presents a roadblock), clear off and wipe the dining table, etc. The key is tacking on a chore when you're already standing up to do something else. For example, it might be throwing in a load of laundry immediately after returning home from school drop-off instead of sitting down right away and delaying any sort of progress.

I am so sorry that I didn't mention daily pickup. There isn't a better habit to keeping a house clean. I have said before I am 70 and no matter what I pick up every day. Cleaning is so easy then. I cleaned for others at different times in my life and the women would ask how I do it. Pickup first, put things where they belong, then clean. I clean my house every Monday morning and there isn't any pickup involved. I pick up before I go to bed. Yes, I have an animal and my husband has passed, but my routine was started when I was about 10. My Mom was this way also. You can do it, I know you can. Love you Danielle always look forward to our visits. You are such a treasure! Hugs 🫂

I don’t go to bed or leave my house without making sure everything is put away and in its spot. Of course being a minimalist makes this much easier but this has just become routine for me. I watch my 2 year old grandson everyday for 9 hours a day and he knows that he has to pick up his toy’s that he’s playing with before he gets another toy out. Good habits start young. Hope you’re staying warm Danielle, hugs from southwest Florida. 🌴🌴🌴

I love watching The Minimal Mom. She incorporates Dana's ideas in a very succinct way. If i could offer a tip that I'm trying to implement for myself, put things away when you're done in a room. And tidy that room. It breaks the 2 hours up throughout the week. My mother does this and i always wondered why.

Absolutely Dana k White channel also clutterbug channel and what helped me the most actually was The Minimal mom channel she really simplifies everything and she makes it very visual in her videos and just great if you haven't checked her out I would highly recommend every video she makes is just amazing but her basic videos like the starters playlist are very very helpful to start with. I'm not even a mom but I find it so helpful And this tree actually work together and they hold workshops together also online and she quotes them a lot and she brings in their systems into her videos She talks about systems and how to make it so you organize your house to serve you best that it doesn't get cluttered in the first place and this way it's easier to do the daily cleaning that doesn't get piled on and then creates more clutter for you to even start a daily cleaning She also talks about how to make it easy for your family to chip in and create systems for them that are even just easy to maintain for example how to simplify the house and organize it in a way that it's going to be easy for them to take things away and put things back as the day go aside from having them doing a daily routine tasks

Just found your channel, cause I love Dana as well, been following her for years. I love your content, the fact that you keep it real. I laughed a few times, and will be checking out the rest of your channel soon. While I would love to say I've been on a decluttering journey for x number of years, to be honest it's more like 2 months that I've been serious and active about it. I am a pack rat by nature, and I love/live with a hoarder (he's not too bad, hell, who am I kidding, he's bad, but he's getting better, he listens to me and is beginning to see what I'm saying, and taking my hard work in other areas of this tiny mobile home as motivation and making his own steps in his own zones.), so it has it's challenges, but things are slowly processing, so that's a positive. Thanks again for keeping it real and looking forward to browsing your content.

Danni, I love that you are keeping it so real. ❤ I feel sad, as I never realised you didn’t pick up your house every day, because not having a daily pick up schedule means that keeping up with your house must have been such a chore for you. Danni, may I helpfully suggest you absolutely should try to do an every day pick up for 15 minutes and a 20 minute light room clean because it will help you keep on top of things so much. May I suggest you try either: 1. Picking a small set of absolute “to do every day tasks” such as: taking out trash, kitchen sink clean, dishes, toilet clean and putting the general items of clutter laying around on surfaces or by your front/back door back where they belong; or 2. You pick a different room everyday to do a general to-do light clean and then rotate to a different room each day throughout the week. Personally, I find if you don’t keep on top of those things, then how can you get to the actual decluttering or deep cleaning without it becoming a massive job or an overwhelming, time consuming, stressful and exhausting process that takes a week or two?! As they always say “Procrastination is the thief of joy”. So create an everyday to-do list which is practical for your home and family and stuck to it everyday. Consistent routine, commitment to your through your check list and everyday practice is what helps you succeed. Btw Dana K White gives such great advice when you’re starting out in creating a routine, as she says: 1. “Don’t put things down, put them away”, 2. “Everything/item should have a permanent home in a place that makes sense within each room, and everyone in the house should be educated as to where things live in the house” e.g. getting everyone on board by showing them all what things are stored in which cupboards, shelves and containers. Labelling containers etc helps with this. Plus, not constantly changing the storage spaces or the things around in these storage spaces, so people have consistency in automatically locating items, especially children who like routine, consistency and organised spaces. 3. “In the time we waste overthinking about doing the little jobs (i.e. how long they’ll take, or how fiddly they’ll be to get done) we could have actually done just them and ticked them off our to-do list, thus benefiting not only ourselves, but everyone we love who lives with and around us!”

I really appreciated hearing about the 3 layer approach. It makes total sense to me, and I do this without really thinking too hard about it, but thinking about it more is very helpful and I know will help me stay on task. I get so sidetracked when I am in "cleaning the house mode", and sort of skip from one thing to another. It makes sense in my brain to use the layer approach as a tool to stay on task and work to smarter not harder.

I’m not ADHD or any other however I had fallen into the trap of doing 1 23 all at once through depression and as you said it was a mountain instead of a mole hill 😢. Prior I was the other tidy decluttered as I went and cleaned. And as you did I saw Dana’s video and a light bulb came on and I’ve started coming back to myself but still fall off the wagon so to speak but I’m on my way and so will you. Can’t wait to see your next video about decluttering wrong. ❤

Danni, what an awesome video. This video described me to a tee. During your video I kept saying “that’s me, that’s me.” OMG! Now I have to get my butt in gear and establish a routine. But first, I have to play “catch up.” Wow, I wonder how long that will take me? Well, the only thing to do is just start. Thank you so very much for being so real and honest. Your home is very pretty. Take care. Cookie in Mandeville Louisiana

Hi, Danni! Great job on your video! Just wanted to let you know things are back to normal. No more problems! Let’s hope it stays that way! I did clean out my fridge and got it ready for new groceries. Looks good! When I get up in the morning and get my breakfast ready, I make sure to empty the coffee pot and rinse out the pot for use for the next day. I put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and get it ready for the next wash. So my kitchen is ready for the next day or next meal. It’s only me so I try to keep things clear all the time. There are times when I’m lazy and don’t do it but then my cleaning mode kicks in. I don’t mind cleaning. And when I clean, it’s clean! Hugs, my friend! Lions play San Francisco on Sunday! Hope we make it to the Super Bowl! 🥰💙💙💙👍

Girl, you are a mess. You make all these tips on how to clean. Sound like fun. 😂😂 I didn't know anything about layers either. I can tell you are still doing better at keeping your house under control. When your husband was picking on you about your Christmas shirt. 😂😂 and started playing with them balls. 😂😂 he cracked me up. 😂😂 when you were jumping on the couch. I was waiting for your chip bag to explode. 😂 thanks for the fun. But very helpful video.

Hello, pretty horsey playing hide and seek. Ian, don't spin her tassels! Thank you for bringing Dana White to my attention, I'll check her out. I really like The Organized Mom Method. You're singing my song about routine/habit. When I stick to the TOMM plan, everything is so much better. Then I get happy, slack off, and fall off the wagon. My wagon needs better sides. Maybe a seatbelt. With TOMM, clutter is the first layer because you can't clean clutter.

Always so happy to see you here with me friend, you are so dang sweet! Thank you ❤️ And I totally get where you're coming from! I got to a point too where I was like "i'm done with the mess, im done with the clutter" I couldnt take it anymore, by removing what ive removed it has helped me manage my house so so much better, its a night and day difference, its wonderful! There really do have this sense of clarity and freedom now, its an amazing feeling. Lots of love, thanks for watching & being here with me Ann! 🥰

Yes everyone needs to do a 10 minute reset every night. Also Dana's container rule. It has to be easy to put things away, if the cupboards are too full it's too hard to put away. Also I know you like lots of things but that can be a downfall as too much to manage is too hard to maintain. Love you!

Yes honey take a little bit of time - I do a before bed tidy and a lunch time clean up it cuts down on huge messes- I put the house to bed and clean up after breakfast and lunch - it helps so much to keep things tidy at all times- also Ian playing with the balls was such a man thing

Hi Danni. I checked out Danna's ch her philosophy of layers that is the way I've been doing for years it's easy for me I'm only one person. Layer one just picking up a whole house should be a joint effort. Why not set a time where everyone in the house spends 10 minutes just picking up? 10 minutes is not a lot of time your family should be willing to help you to make things easier. You should not be the only one picking up. I don't think this is a bad idea, just hanging a coat up, picking up clothes off the floor or doing dishes should not be one persons responsibility especially since you do all the cleaning. Layer one should be a joint effort by everyone in the house. This will make your life easier. You need to teach them that layer one is everyone's responsibility. The family will all be better for that. Or instead maybe assign a specific room to everyone for that 10 minutes.

I really apologize about that! I noticed that too and I can see how that can be really, I dont want to say annoying, but annoying LOL I tend to do that a lot and its something Im really trying to work on. I have to reel it in when I catch myself doing that. I dont know why I repeat myself so much...I think its because I forget things so quickly, I lose my place a lot and Im also super scattered LOL. but I do apologize about that. But thank you so much for being here with me, I appreciate it so much! ❤️
