My mom did not play video games. I would occasionally find her playing Donkey Kong Country just so she could play underwater in the bliss of Aquatic Ambience. It's that powerful.
This song truly embodies the feeling of being in the depths of a body of water. The deepness of the sounds and notes is, well, for lack of a better word - *DEEP.* 🐬🐟🦈 Very cool that you were able to recreate this!!!
Legend for making this video. I was just talking about how any time I hear a song that sounds like this I know that the composer was inspired by this track. Absolute pillar of music. I used to lay in bed with my Gameboy speaker pressed up inside my ear.. of course it wouldn't fit but I'd get it close as I could.
Song reminds me of my childhood. Knowing how LITTLE data they had available to them on SNES blows my mind. Thanks for this 🙏 awesome! FL studio gang represent. 😂
this is THE most detailed breakdown of a song ever i freakin love it! as a fl studio user, you've really disected every organ of this piece of music. this is the only channel ive seen so far with this depth that also uses fl studios. awesome man!
These videos consistently manage to be some of the most enjoyable and engaging videos on youtube for me. Every time I watch one I end up opening FL a few minutes in just to play around with something you've mentioned. They've really gotten me over a slump in composing as a beginner, the amount of detail you put in really speaks to a love for the craft. If you ever take suggestions, I'd love to hear your take on some of Tim Follin's work.
Awesome dissection of one of the greatest videogame-soundtrack ever hit the planet Gotta try this one out to rebuild in KORG Gadget for Nintendo Switch Greetings from Germany
Thanks for making this and including the FLAC. 41 year old fan of the original DKC game. Subscribed to your channel and very impressed by your work and wishing you all the success in the world!
Thank you for bringing one of my favorite childhood songs to life. As someone who can only play music by ear and barely yet has each musical note etched in the mind, seeing it recreated by you was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. You are truly talented as well!
If Nintendo and Sony ever works together again to make sound chips or anything it would be perfection and beautiful. Hopefully The Legend of Zelda movie they both are working on is perfection with a unique beautiful sound track. Wonderful video.
You know what's funny? I remember playing this game at family back when it came out and us being kids, nobody stopped to think about the music. All we were hyped up over was the gameplay and beating the levels. Imagine returning to the game after 30 years only to remember that we were listening to video game music history playing out live!
Great job! Recreating it must have been a lot of work; especially to fine-tune the details! Friendly tip #1: Make sure to account for the bass part (and the fact that DAWs don't have flats, only sharps) when identifying a chord :) as it can otherwise change the meaning quite considerably! Friendly tip #2: 13:57 The scale in the harp is close to a minor scale in sound but there is something different... (Hint: If you look closely, there seems to be a note that is always omitted in the scale...) ;)
Hi again Aurora! Thank you for pointing those out. Yeah, I knew something was a little off when I said that harp scale was in just Cm. Would that be the Cm hexatonic scale (since only 6 notes)?
@@MusicDesign Exactly! To be fair, this scale isn't that common so its easy to miss! Anyway, keep up your awesome work! :) For anyone wondering: minor hexatonic scales are built from the notes of two triads that are combined (one minor triad; and one major triad starting a whole step below the minor triad). Example: Cm triad is C-Eb-G and Bb triad is Bb-D-F, so we reorder the notes and we get C minor hexatonic: C-D-Eb-F-G-Bb! Another way to think of it is as a natural minor scale without the sixth scale degree.
i only found this channel looking for aquatic ambience breakdowns, but after watching a bunch of your videos I am shocked at how little love you're having from the supposed YT algorithm. i would like to encourage you to keep it up but you're in for a long haul with this one. i am writing this comment to let you know that i rate your content, however much that means.
You should see this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fFzd2dxKcXk.html. I've done something David Wise couldn't do back in the day which was use the Korg Wavestation on the Masterpiece. I used the isolated strings from Vox Concrete as i plan to deconstruct the Masterpiece in full and re record some of the original sounds in full.
Instead i'm going to deconstruct the masterpiece in more detail and re record some of the sounds originally used off the Wavestation. You got so close with the Wavesequence and what you used as Violins and synth flute was Whisper Voices but modified. David also used Vox Concrete for strings, Piano, Digi Harp, That low pitched synth mallet was off Industrial.
I just discovered your channel and I just want to say you are GOATed, I really hope you keep making these videos because they are so important for someone like me who wants to learn and improve as a composer/songwriter :))
Great job! The bass line in this piece really puzzled me for the longest time. How did you figure it out? On the HCS forum, I found MIDIs for the three DKC games that were converted from the code. Did you use them for reference?
I was able to find all the instrument tracks from the original song, as well as the soundfont for the game. One of the patches on the soundfont had all these bass percussion sounds so I pieced things together until it sounded like the original.
What I find interesting is the notes in the beginning sound like they were designed in a way to sound like a monkey talking. If it was intentional that is absolutely genius
Well done! I still don’t understand how they were able to put so many effects, reverb, synth and be played in live by the chips audio of the SNES. I suppose the cartbridge was bigger since DK was released at the end of life of SNES. Do you know if there are information about the creation of the original somewhere?
I’m not sure if this is the place to ask this but what libraries do you use the most for your recreations of these songs? What libraries would be best for a chrono trigger sound? I’m guessing it may just depend on personal level of skill. It seems I can just never find the right sounds for tracks I’m working on
Hi Owen! Best libraries for a Chrono Trigger/Cross sound would be Celtic Era instruments, the Shire Whistle from Embertone, and Noire Piano. Some other great ones: • Metropolis Arks 1 and 2 for orchestral • Battery 4 for percussion • Leonid Bass and Joshua Bell violin
What is the percussion kit used for the section 2 that we can hear at 11:07 please ? (I dont get the same double note sound that i believe is contained in pattern Low Rythm #2) I tried with every patch from the dkc soundfont that i got on the musical artifacts website, but apparently I can’t find the one that you were using in this project Also, does the Melodion part correspond to the Melodeon from Kontakt Factory Library ? Or is it the single concertina thing from Eduardo Tarilonte's Accordions 2 that we can get for the Best Service engine 2 ? Thanks Anyway, really accurate recreation, nice work.
The percussion kit comes from Sam Miller's version of the soundfont found below. It's called "Aquatic Rhythm Kit": musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/207 The concertina is from Celtic Era (Eduardo).
Every time you call the delay "reverb" I feel pain deep inside lmao Great recreation and analysis, although explaining a song made for the SNES using modern tools like VSTs and automation is kind of cheating imo. Very good video!
I learn a lot from this, thank u very much, can i ask how u learn music design ?? can u give me some advices for me that i am new and my dream is to be a producer, music designer. Thanks ! have a nice weekend. PD: sory my bad english i am from argentina
Hi Susanoo! Start analyzing your favorite composers' music, exactly how I've been doing it. Try to re-create their songs as close to the original as possible to learn a lot about their techniques.
The bell works!! Yet another fantastic video man. I am overseas currently deployed to stop this Russian thing right now… but when I get back I would love to commission you for some background music for documentaries and videos I have in mind
What did you use to get the sound Low Rythym #1 in section 2 in FL studio? I'm looking everywhere in my stock plugins for it in the daw and cant seem to find it.
How did you get the bends so smooth? Im used to using the "legato" on harmless, this new way is throwin me for a loop lol just cant get the bends to the right pitch
If you're in FL Studio, open up an instrument patch and click on the Gear icon on the top left. From the top menu that opened up, you right-click and automate the pitch wheel there. You can also adjust the range for a bigger bend.
Really good breakdown and an almost uncanny recreation! But the chords you mentioned are wrong. Piece is in C minor, so D# major 7 is nowhere to be seen. I would say those first two chords are C minor 9 and Ab Major #11
Hey this is genuinely really cool, could you tell me the soundfonts/vst/etc you used to get those instruments? id love to make something like this one day
I have the theory that Wise was inspired by Marcos Resende's "Abrolhos" track, from june 1993 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8KP130MNlFA.html). I wish someone would ask him.
