The live announcement that Kojima wasn't allowed to accept HIS award is among the most embarrassing moments in gaming history. Konami really did a bold faced villain move in front of a live audience, despicable.

I agree with you, but guess what! Look at what Kojima has achieved. Everyone wants to collaborate with him, and the best part is when Guerrilla Games heartily gave him the entire code for the Decima engine. Kojima’s influence in the gaming industry is indeed legendary.

This whole story is making me emotional. What gets to me is that Hideo is making a game about making connections with other even when you feel apart, and his whole journey to create his studio was him feeling alone but then all the connections he's made over the years supported him and gave him what he needed to create his achievements. There's the whole part of his team not understanding the game and questioning the appeal but they still went with it and kept at it until they found themselves having fun. It's just so beautiful that Kojima couldn't get a loan because he had no actual results, but then he found a banker who was a fan of his work and gave him the loan. When he wanted a certain building he was denied because his company wasn't publicly traded, but one of the owners was a fan so he was allowed to get the office. The power of inspiring people.

I rather enjoyed Death Stranding. The gameplay wasn't the most exciting thing in the world, and the story was about as comprehensible as German folktales being read aloud by Cthulhu. But Kojima had an idea for a weird game that was never going to be a commercial smash-hit, and by God, he was going to see that it got made. It isn't technically, it *is* an indie game by all definition. Indie doesn't exactly mean low-quality/budget/fidelity, it's just that indie studio generally results in that. @@seri-ously8591 do you know what 'indie' means? Because according to you, pretty much every developer which is not owned by a publisher makes indie games. This line is now blurred when you have publishers like Devolver Digital though. Sony not owning KojiPro doesn't mean DS is an indie game. Whenever I see people try and argue games aren't art, I just tell them to play any Kojima game, and then get back to me. There's always a deeper message in his games. Someone once told me you know a good movie when you can watch it multiple times and get something new every time. That's what playing a Kojima game is like. The first time is kinda confusing, but on repeat playthroughs, things make a lot more sense. He's a master at giving just the right amount of info to keep you curious but not give away the twist till the very end. Not to mention the multi-hour long cutscenes that could be entire feature-length movies themselves (not everybody's cup of tea, I get it, but I love them.) The fact that Hideo Kojima ran into every possible wall and still managed to climb over it and thrive goes to show how passion and kindness go so far in making it. His vision and connections built upon each other to help him achieve success, and because of that we got to experience more of his work while reinforcing that very image of him. This world is full of struggle and no people, whenever there is creative work at play the risk is always substantial. Because people *have* to like it, otherwise your value and worth gets thrown out the window, unlike if you were to help create medicine or food. What we can get from this tale is that no matter the circumstance, as long as you have a passion and strive for more, never let go of it even within your toughest struggle, because there are others like you who will see the value of your efforts and together bring forth your true potential. A great video!

In the second paragraph you're absolutely right -- from a purely economic standpoint people should appreciate your work, and costs should be lesser than revenue. Kojima with all his passions failed as we know, since DS underperformed in terms of profits. So he's not a very successful creator in this regard. And that's understandable -- Kojima is just a talentless hack who gained his notoriety on the backs of others. All his later games are complete BS, and just a pale imitation of what 'he' had done before. Those who don't get it are just clueless.

the community system is wild. it's so much more than messages or bridges. the more you do for the community the more buildings of others you see. everywhere a player walks the server keeps track of and removes more and more rocks the more players walk there, till eventually you have a smooth player created trail, only that most players won't know that they are creating it. you can find packages players dropped, which you can deliver for them, or return to them. you can leave behind messages that will give others a little stamina boost, or soothe BB.

@@ShtikMahnIn my opinion, MGSV is nothing like MGS in terms of storytelling. It's simply not a Metal Gear game. And even without counting that, this game is simply outdated in how the missions are presented. Imagine GTA6 where 80% of the MAIN, not side missions are like 'kill 20 gangsters', 'destroy 3 cars', and that's it. No backstory, no cutscenes, nothing. And the story is most hollow, shallow and contrived in terms of ideas and everything. But that's a very long talk.

Why did he announce Physint so early then? Realistically the game will be released around 2030, or even later. Actually Death Stranding was a flop, and the prospects of DS2 don't look great since it's the same hacky walking sim nobody asked for. This makes me want to buy Death Stranding now to support him and his studio. 5 years (and counting) of chronic environmental violence have given me C-PTSD, forcing me to constantly have to distract myself with a torrent of stimuli to avoid the extreme fear and violence. Death Stranding, as far as I could see, is a pretty calm game, it doesn't seem to be something that will help my anxiety. But after seeing how 99.9% of Japan collectively threw him in the dirt despite being the most renowned gaming director in the industry by far and for good reason (in an industry that makes more money than all media and music combined), after seeing that culture try to stifle all his life's dreams and potential to improve humanity's lives out of pure uncooperative prejudice... Studios like Kojima seem like something you have to proritize supporting even if it hurts you. Because the consequences of letting this life-ruining economy keep it's undeserved power will be far more painful than any other event. Do the math, trying to understand human suffering even if you haven't experienced much. One traumatizing event is less painful than a slave's lifestyle in a lifetime. Some personal hardship is not as bad as an entire society deprived of self-control for wellbeing purposes, if for no other reason than that society would create millions more cases of hardship in time. The economy lost the power necessary to improve it's collective behaviors enough to stop it from cannibalizing itself. Supporting independent studios like Kojima's, workplaces that are not fully controlled by a corporate contract solely interested in maximal greed, is the only way to fight back this tenacious anthropophagy.

Its a great game. Keep in mind though while the game is definitely on the less heavy combat side theres still some combat and can definitely be a disturbing game. First of all as an obvious metal gear fan, and someone who loves themes that Kojima explored, death stranding really did had flaws but not at mechanics at gameplay ironicly at acting story pacing, and world building logic, it litteraly needs to its own video to explain this but for short i think sam uniting world without any ideology or belief sounded really wrong and illogical, people change their entire mindset just because you help them ? at the game rather than we are uniting people we are litteraly just giving internet connection to locals, funny enough Sam also doesnt give any emotions properly he is mostly has one facial mimic ( why da heck im here "look") and almost nothing else, i can say the same for rest of the cast too, i really didnt like the acting i cant see any mimic properly and even when they do it looks strange ( i think they are trying to give A24 movies strangeness feeling which looks ridicilous ) , characters just looks strangely too screen, and omg the dialogues, does kojima realy thinks anyone even the greatest minds talk like this in real life, people at death stranding does not have character but concepts and at a game that you dont have a enemy to defeat ( I know rigs exist but he is not the main concern ) and main focus of the game is the people we meet, i think it really fails to do so, I can understand the fustration of people who says they didnt like gameplay but i think they need to give it a chance and gain access to main map of the world ( i think its at 3rd or 4rd act of the game ) which becomes something very extra ordinary and i have never seen before.

I'd really like to see, once VR is more accessible, accepted and developed, what Kojima would make. VR can connect and immerse people so much more than a flat game. And it has so much creative potential. I really wanna see what his creative mind can make in such a medium.

The problems with Kojima trying to make a VR game are threefold: 1: The collective install base for all of VR is *tiny* compared to even making a console exclusive. If you were to take literally EVERYONE in the active VR games market combined, it would still be smaller than Death Stranding’s entire lifetime sales. 2: He would need to overhaul his game engine set up ***again*** thanks to the extremely tight technical demands of the Quest 2’s architecture. Very few games made for such hardware have large and open environments due to the GPU being so weak as to put realtime shadow maps outside most games’ GPU budget. 3: Some of the design restrictions introduced by the fact of VR, being well, VR, are things that clash directly with some of Kojima’s most heavily-utilized tools. Cinematic cutscenes are integral to Kojima’s style but in VR that’s pretty much not an option without major changes to how they’re presented: any VR games that have tried to do so without said changes fall completely flat on their presentation.

@@crimson-foxtwitch2581 1. It is true, the base is currently still far off and the tech too expensive for what you get. 2. Yeah the quest is cheap, but stand-alone isn't what I had in mind. I've played HLA and it's gorgeous. 3. It's a whole different style of cinematography. I've seen it done so extremely well. You don't need cutscenes as the world and the people around you tell the story. It's not too far off from what Valve did in HL1, don't take the player out of their character. That's all you gotta do. You can then play with the composition of the scene, audio and interactive elements. It may feel limiting at first but it just has some challenges and big opportunities. I don't expect to ever see it but I'd love to see it happen. And god, I hate the quest so much. It's like the gameboy of consoles.

This game really was a slow burn for everybody. We all, including myself, bemoaned the game as a "walking simulator." It's tedious and strange, and the core game play involves just walking around, but...then you understand that the game is the hike. It's not an escape from reality, but a celebration of it. It's one of the strangest games ever made with an extremely bizarre narrative. No wonder everyone reacted the way they did to the concept, because it was so alien. I'm glad it exists.

The story and fighting system of the first DS were terrible, Metal Gear Solid 4 (storywise) cringe of terrible, just bunch of childish dialogue filled with repetitive words and jargon and analogies and symbolisms rubbed on your face! He can't understand the beauty and art of being subtle, and for the lord of God, his pretentious style of writing confusing stuff so his surface level ideas feel deep because you can't understand what's going on its just... Argh, I hate it. The only thing I enjoyed a lot about this game was the exploration, it really felt like traveling, but the awful fights interruptions made it annoying, I would just ditch the enemies and make the terrain the real enemy, that would be a more neat, original concept, the enemies on this game were unnecesary. It's a 6 out of 10, Kojima needs to ground his ideas a little bit more and stop pretending he is a writing genius, he is not, just use a real writer to land your ideas, which are great but badly executed.

I've never played a game like Death Stranding. It was such a high production game and I would recommend it to people and they would blow it off. It was quite a grind for platinum, but I love the HZD tributes, and overall gameplay. The timefall and off-road driving was a little frustrating, but I've never seen anything like it. Oh, and play on your birthday, I got more greetings and cheer than in real life. Such a unique and crazy experience. Some would call it genius.

Thank you for the video. But a little bit sensationalist for no reason. For example, his family was against him making a new studio? Oh, please. Western devs thought he was crazy? You got to be kidding. He is arguably _the_ most famous game designer/developer in the history of the industry. I bet the moment rumors were out he was leaving his publisher, offers came flying in. That's why Guerilla Games just gave him their engine _with_ the source code no strings attached. Cory Barlog (director of God of War 2018) talked about how when Kojima walked out on the stage like Magneto with the tiles flying to his feet it was something else (that stage walk clip was shown in this video). Kojima has huge weight in the industry. So no, his family wouldn't have been against him and certainly no dev, Western or otherwise, would laugh at him and call him crazy for starting his own studio. Look at, for example, how many ex-Battlefield devs started their own studios. All of them got immediate financial support. Many, many, big name devs went on to start their own studios. Any publisher would have wanted Kojima if only to slap his name on a game. Can you imagine how much coverage that game would get? And you can guarantee a million units in sales based on his name alone. There are other nitpickings here and there, but I shouldn't overstep. You compiles a nice video and I didn't. It was entertaining. I just wanted to like it more if it was a tiny more genuine than sensational. Cheers, and sorry for the critique.

@@ThatGuyGlen Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond. Your title says the Kojima team hated death stranding - can you expand on where/when this was answered in your video? There was a passing mention that folks had negative feedback about the exploration focus, but that was it. The entire video was about the development of the game itself. Again, great content and I appreciated it, but there should have been no need to (imo) clickbait with a sensationalised title.
@ThatGuyGlen
@ThatGuyGlen 29 дней назад
It’s not a sensationalized title. The team was very against the concept and all of Hideo Kojima’s ideas (not just exploration). They kept asking Kojima to change the entire direction of the game. Things were very tense during the beginning of development, to the point that Kojima called his colleagues his enemies. It went much further than simply disliking or doubting the concept.

You can avoid it, but it cost you to planned your route carefully, especially if you decide to hike the mountain to avoid confrontation with the Human enemy or BT. you have to bring spare boots, ladder, ropes, and really considering how much cargo you should bring with you and ohh boy i like to bring huge amount of cargo to challenge myself. it's really fun for me....
