Well.. as deep as your patience goes.... i did 9mm deep square hole on aluminium with 50W

what were your settings and what brand of laser did you use?

@@chadhartsell1009 Raycus 50W - I set S 200 - P 80 ( never set your laser more than 80%, it is bad to laser health) - F 50 - cross hatch 0.02. When deep engraving sometimes i use 100x100 f-theta, somentimes 70x70. My machine is RickLaser, I assemble my machines.

they are also wrong, it's not reflectivity that causes steel to be difficult to engrave. steel is actually way less reflective at 1064nm than aluminum. steel has much higher melting point and greater hardness that make it more difficult to engrave. aluminum has low melting point and is soft.

Thank you for teaching this. What is the work area of this 50W engraving machine? F-210(150x150)? What laser source JPT or Raycus you prefer?

The working area is according to the f-theta lens on the machine, the area is 150x150 for F-210 lens. The laser source is depends on your perpose. Mopa laser is more expensive but have finer marking quality, Q-switch cost less,

You suggest not going above 80% of the laser source to not shorten machine life. Could you please elaborate on this a little more, exactly what parts get used up the most? I suppose the galvo mirrors. 80% of 50W is 40W, this reaches those mirrors. But what if I have a 30W machine, can I go 100%? still would be 30W on the galvo. What if I have a 100W machine? I suppose the galvos and their mirrors are the same in all these versions. Are there anything else in the laser source itself that gets used up?

Pretty sure he's just repeating what he's heard for CO2 lasers. Fibre are different.

with a 30W machine, which is the best way to do a deep engrave, like 0.5 / 1 mm over aluminum o steel ? i mean, power / speed and how many times must take a good result ? thanks a lot

We didn't do anything to for it, seems that this effect is negligible.

Cannot, the laser beam will gasify the material into the air.

​@@3DCA The smaller f-theta lens has smaller laser beam dot, and higher beam energy, theoretically, you can reduce the gasify a little.
