Did none of the officers you spoke to suggest that this could be insurance fraud? He could be paid to hold them as the owners claim they were stolen to their insurance company and get a full payout. He holds them at his place for however long necessary and then they get claimed later as found by a third party and get repurchased as a salvage title

I definitely think people have him "steal" their cars so they can file an insurance claim. Maybe they couldn't afford the car anymore, couldn't repair it, or simply just wanted something else. People actually do this, the difference is they wont leave the cars in their back yard lol.

@amicloud_yt

That's where my conclusion jumped to as well, and I think that is a much more plausible explanation than regular theft. If they were stolen for parts they would've been torn apart. If they were stolen to commit crimes, they wouldn't have been stashed in a back yard (that would only incriminate the person, completely defeating the point of stealing a car to commit crimes)

For anyone wondering: Ok, but what can he do with the stolen cars, he can't just resell them in US right? That's right. Most of them are shipped overseas. For example in Russia, it's estimated that 50% of all "new" luxury cars are actually stolen car. So a stolen US Aston Martin could and most likely will end up on the Instagram feed of a rich russian millionare. In fact certain US luxury owners even arrange for their car to be stolen, they get a cut of the re-sale money from Russia and collect full car insurance in US!

Usually those types of criminals steal these cars as "disposable" cars to commit crimes. Over here in Puerto Rico, lots of Kia Souls and Sportages and Toyota Yaris are stolen just for that purpose. About a month and a half ago the police found a backyard that pretty much looked like a Toyota parts bin. The cars stolen here would hardly pass as "disposable" or inconspicuous in PR.

There must have been at least 7 or 8 of them stolen. The owner guy was legit but the thieves figured out that this bloke would get a new replacement Landcruiser every time they took one. Apparently the cars all ended up in warzones being broken down for parts or used as weapons trucks.

Leaving the keys inside cars is really a thing, it blows my mind. In NJ, thieves leave Newark and travel to the suburbs to try door handles. they don't have to look for long before they find one unlocked with the key fob inside. They return back with high end cars every day. they joy ride them until they crash or until it's recovered by police while it's parked. If they're able to find someone to purchase the car from them and ship it overseas, they'll do that or use it to commit other crimes. They are also known to travel an hour plus to quiet neighborhoods, including into neighboring NY state, to steal cars.

Pretty much all of those cars can be tracked by their navigation units via the dealer/manufacturer with or without a battery in the car. There's a much bigger story here.
@Si74l0rd
@Si74l0rd 2 года назад
Tesla's perhaps, but there's nothing to track if there's only a passive signal from an unpowered tracker. If the manufacturer doesn't get someone on the cars tail pretty quick, then the thieves will disable whatever is necessary until it gets to it's new country/owner. It's not a clueless newbie when there are 35 cars with factory trackers fitted sat in his backyard and this is the first anyone knew about it. They've been worked on by someone before being parked there, otherwise 35 cars would all disappear at the same spot, which is equally suspicious. Either the cars owners are involved in the fraud, or there's an organised crime element to it. But unless someone has fit a SIM enabled tracker in a non factory locale on the car, once the power sources are disconnected, or the area sufficiently shielded, it's game over.

This might be the case of insurance fraud since it would make sense to why there’s so many random cars there. He could be just letting the people who can’t keep up the payments just park it in his back yard and report it as stolen to sap some money from the insurance and give him a cut from that said paycheck. Shady shit but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

@scotchbonnetfk8
@scotchbonnetfk8 2 года назад
This is the confusing part to me. People leaving keys in their cars and I'm over here putting my fob in a faraday bag as soon as I get home so thieves can't use the trick where they aplify the signal from your window and have their buddy unlock and start the car. I don't even use the fob to open the doors in case someone is using a device for a replay attack (capture and save the unlock signal so they can use it later).

400 cannabis plants is a full time job, more than a full time job for more than one person if you want to do it with "best practices." I think that residence was going full steamer for multiple enterprises. Could be like 10 million buried on the property to be dug up later after the investigation is over. This level of enterprise has a boss that is completely disconnected from whoever gets caught, they would run these businesses full tilt knowing they cant operate forever, just as long as possible until some people need to take a fall.
