Today we’re going to take a look at one of the richest single points on earth, The Blacksmith’s Hole, where this one tiny spot behind a row of houses in Australia yielded an actual ton of gold!
Worked in the early years of the Victorian gold rush, The Blacksmith's Hole was an extraordinarily rich mining claim on the junction of the Prince Regent and Canadian Leads in Ballarat, where a mine shaft was sunk in 1853 to over a hundred feet deep with incredible results.

This is amazing! I live along Main Rd and have walked past this site many times completely oblivious to this amazing discovery. I have observed that same brown post wondering how I could further research the topic. I have begun my Gold Detecting journey around the local area and this channel has been unbelievably helpful for my interests in the Gold history of our wonderful area. Thank you so much and keep up the amazing work. Might be able to go out for a swing of the detector one day 👌🏼

There would be still a lot of alluvial gold nuggets and fine gold left behind.

A ton (2,000 pounds) of pure gold would make a cube about 14×14×14 inches.

There is an interesting story of the model of the gold mine. I understand it was made at the time of the gold rush, if it us the one i saw as a ten year old on a school Science Museum trip many years ago.
