@@ASavageEye Elma was banned because of Gearfried. It does not work with woodland sprite and it never did, because it says "send an equip to the GY", while dagger says it must be "destroyed." Even if this wasn't the case, the split via period (which would be a "then" clause in modern text), between the sending and dealing 500 also makes dagger's "when/can" miss timing. The same rule that covers why Sprite doesn't combo with Archfiend of Gilfer either.
@@undeadinside3571 havent played since the light and dark skill got nerfed, all i know is they make skills broken to "encourage anime decks" or some bs 💀
@solfreedom9067 The combo you're thinking of is with gearfried and fire princess if I remember correctly. Elma doesn't work with this because it needs to be be destroyed wearase this card sends it to the grave instead so it wouldn't return to hand
Yubel and Wiseman existed before the changes were made to burn damage, so any card that burns released before Zexal world’s release still had their burn damage intact, except Lava Golem
So this card is responsible for all the weird numbers in burn effects in Duel Links. I thought it was native to the format to halve everything, I didn't think it was forced by... Woodland Sprite of all things...
@@dodang_9147 Close. You're increasing potency by 100% because you double it's efficacy! Still, I was never surprised that burn effects would be halved in the game
I was playing when they halved burn damage, it was because burn decks would always find a way into top meta, too consistently, because burn effects were balanced for a game with 8000 LP. So halving them balanced them for 4000Lp
It was also an FTK card IRL, I'm pretty sure the current version of butterfly dagger has been erattaed since then, because if I remember correctly, butterfly dagger used to instantly return itself to the hand, so on sprite it was a 2 card OTK.
MBT calls himself a Yu-Gi-Oh expert and he doesn't realize that this was part of the legendary 2 cycle loop of equipping this card with butterfly dagger Elma and then it goes to the grave and does 500 damage to your opponent butterfly dagger Elma comes back to your hand you re-equip it and you can keep hitting 500 for each re-equip to otk your opponent. 🤷♂️😏 I affectionately referred to this strategy as: Smokie The Bear Turbo! ☠️🤣😎
@@HazeEmry Duel Links doesn't even have Gift Card for precisely that reason since Bad Reaction to Simochi has been in the game for ages. The combo was Reficule with 2x The Paths of Destiny, which had the burn damage halved but not the life gain, so if your opponent flipped heads on both of them they die instantly. Enter Sartorius' Master of Destiny skill which forces your first three coin toss effects to always come up heads.
@@HazeEmry The main difference is that Reficule is searchable and Paths was added at the same time as Reficule. That being said, Paths is now limited to 1 so easy FTKs are no longer possible either way
Fun fact about this card. For the manga Zatch bell/Gash bell the author had a contest to draw your own momodo character. One of the many winners drew this card in the same position as the artwork and once it was found out that it was just copied they were disqualified. But you can still see it in the pages of the manga in the bonus section
@@SpottedZebra like I said that's one of the reasons I don't play anymore lol to me it's destroyed by the leaf thing because it's being sent to the graveyard lol
@@JohnnyExtremer Destroying and sending are two different things. This sends without destroying, while Dagger needs to be destroyed and hit the GY. It only meets one of those conditions.
@@stardust9470 gustav dealing an extra 1000 would not suddenly make trains viable, let alone tier 0. both going first and second, the deck is entirely reliant on opening tech cards to even have a chance of playing against actual meta.
I initially thought there was an equip spell that just goes back to your hand when it goes to the graveyard (without cost) and they just loop the effect over and over since it's not one per turn
To clarify the burn nerf only applied to cards released after the nerf took place with the only exception being Lava Golem because it was the reason for the nerf (not because of Woodland Sprite since it was already neutered due to the banlist while Lava Golem was Marik's ace monster thus wasn't going to be limited).
Original reason for banning this card included Gearfried the Iron Knight and Butterfly Dagger - Elma. Have Woodland Sprite and Gearfried on the field. Activate Butterfly Dagger - Elma and attach to Gearfried. Gearfried destroys it, triggers Woodland and triggers Butterfly Dagger's second effect of returning to the hand, all the while reducing your opponent's LP by 500 per action. Rinse and repeat until opponent is dead. First FTK to exist in the TCG.
you want to know how it got banned ? the combo is with butterfly daggers-Elma that if they got destroyed you put them back in your hand and can proceed to re-equip so IT WAS EXODIA IN 2 CARDS!!! NAAAH I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY ITS BANNED
Hey not to rain on your video parade, but its always been a speculative point in the community (check old GAMFAQs for example on the Tournament Games) that with Sprite, Pixie, Butterfly Dagger, Gearfried, and some loop enablers, that an FTK was doable with Woodland specifically. I know it may be anecdotal at best, but I had tons of friends (by tons I mean like 6) ask me for trades/ copies of Sprite for draw power back in the early Synchro days and they'd use woodland as a play extender to pop valuable equips like Axe of Fools or to get rid of Drakmord stuns, etc using Tailor of The Fickle setups. Its kind of had its time to be baked in the oven. It always had potential, just had the wrong format. If base yugioh was 30 instead of 40 cards, we mightve seen like, Cardcar D Woodland Sprite exodia decks instead of Treasure Panda/ Malice engine for example.
Actually, there was a silly OTK with this card. There was an equip card released in 2005 called Butterfly Dagger Elma which could be returned to your hand when it went from being equipped to your graveyard. 2 card otk.
I mean, I OTK with my Cyber Dragon deck using Zane all the time. His skills plus the Cyber Style can just be brutal when first turn I can whip out Chimeratech Rampage Dragon or Twin Cyber Dragon. I modeled that deck off one I have in real life, and it doesn't have the same effect irl. No broken ass skills. I can't just "HeArT oF tHe CaRDs" my way to victory, though I have actually OTK'd twice and both were in a tournament for TCG. One of those guys even threatened to punch me after the match. He did not even get the chance to actually play, just set a single trap. Which I instantly negated the activation of by sending two proto-cyber dragons to the GY from my deck.
Man, the more of these videos I watch, the more one-sided I think their invasion of Ultrakill would be. Firstly, since Ultrakill’s Hell is sentient, and obsessed with causing as much pain and suffering and death as possible, it’d side with Doom’s Hell as soon as the universes are connected. Then since Ultrakill’s God tried but failed to “unmake” Hell, that means nothing in Ultrakill’s Heaven would be able to do shit about their Hell, much less two Hells. That kinda just leaves the machines, but they’re powered by blood, and you mentioned Doom Demons replacing their blood with Argent Energy. If Ultrakill machines can’t use oil as fuel (something confirmed present due to the Firestarter weapon), they probably wouldn’t be able to use Argent Energy either, so they’d likely _also_ join Doom’s Hell against Ultrakill’s Heaven, as the last source of blood in the verse after Ultrakill’s Hell makes the transition to Argent Energy as well. Then depending on the point in the timeline (if it’s after God’s disappearance and before Gabriel going rogue) the council of angels in Ultrakill are _very_ susceptible to corruption, and would likely get corrupted by Doom’s Hell. Basically just leaving Gabriel, the lesser angels, and maybe the Prime Souls, to fight against the combined forces of two Hells (at least one of which outclasses their God), the machines (including V1 who can kill Prime Souls and beat Gabe’s ass at least twice), and possibly some corrupted angels. And all of that’s before getting into any power scaling shenanigans, which aren’t exactly going to be favorable to Ultrakill considering Ultrakill’s cosmology is based on The Divine Comedy’s cosmology, which is based on geocentricism, which basically puts the verse’s power level at like, solar system at max (unless there’s some really major reveals in the two unreleased layers remaining), going up against universal-to-multiversal enemies.
Woodland Sprite is the YOU card of all time. He is supposedly single handedly the reason missing the timing is a thing since him and Archfiend of Gilford were a proto-FTK and I will never forgive him for the damage he has done to the game.
I feel like calling Woodland Sprite one of the worst monsters ever printed is like...off in a way that I'm having trouble describing. There are a lot of really shitty monsters that don't really do anything, but Sprite does serve like a theoretical purpose in being able to essentially be an Equip Spell sacrifice outlet. This exact effect I don't think has been printed in the same way since this card existed. The problem is that outside of this one really silly deck and I guess concerns over Beast of Gilfer of all things, there's never really been a shell for it. If they released an archetype of Equip Spells that floated into meaningful advantage, such as SSing monsters from the deck or searching out other Equips, I could see this card being a potential option, especially since its a Plant. I don't know. The card definitely has not done anything ever because Equip Spell archetypes either just don't work with it or it's not fulfilling a role those archetypes actually want, but it's definitely a card that could be playable should Konami decide they want it to be. I mean they just let Gimmick Puppets do an FTK for free I think they stopped caring about that kind of stuff.
Me who started DL recently: Ah, it makes sense all effect damage is halved due to the halved LPs. Me now: WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS WASN'T ALWAYS THE CASE??
I built that Woodland Sprite Bamboo FTK deck on my Duel Links account and let my buddy play with it all the way to King of Games even though he didn't play Duel Links just a former TCG player lol
As sonone who only a a boomer undering of yigioh and haven't watched this short. 2 guesses 1. The equip spell part synergies well with an equipment based deck like noble knights (IDK I never played them) Or 2. It has an interaction with a than new card that konami didn't want to bam so they banned everything around it instead
During the playground era, everyone would insist that drawing this alongside butterfly dagger elme was an otk. I argued till i was blue in the face that sending to the graveyard was not the same as destroying but everyone around me was adamant that "no, konami made an incredibly broken two card combo and we're just geniuses for figuring this stuff out." Edit: There's still people in the comments thinking that this interaction works, goes to show that people just don't give a flip about the rules.
Competitive players will find ways to make anything stupid work, even if they have to find a janky format to do it in. Though Bamboo Swords are no stranger to janky FTK shenaniagans to begin with.
Ain‘t that kinda sad tho the times changed? You gotta read the whole bible (your deck), memorize it, so you can play for 2 turns. And there‘s no way new players ever gonna try it out for serious matter, if the state of the game is this ehm.. stupid?
Tbh I assumed they hit both it and Elma but actually it wouldn't even work with Elma since it sends to graveyard instead of destroying so Elma's recycle doesn't even proc
Really they didn't halve this nor black pendant? And I thought amazoness swordswoman reflecting full power was bad when they only got 4000 lp. Fencing fire ferret and many other burn cards got halved.
Wait isn't there some equip card that bounces back to your hand when its sent to the graveyard? Something something butterfly knives? Could 't you use that strat instead?
First off every single thing about yugioh is a gotcha game even the TCG. Also Duel like was around for close to a decade before speed duels became a thing. So if anything speed duels are an off shoot of the duel links game, not duel links being based off speed duels
Now we get Lyrisuc that attacks multiple times over boss monsters that can't be interrupted by common cards, i thought they banned that one aleister fusion
Would like to point out that burn effects didn’t get nerfed for this actually. It got burned because of Lava golem shadow game stun. This was just dealt with never to be playable again
I always liked the artwork of that card I don't play duel links but it's so interesting and funny how very useless and obscure cards become meta in there, wish the actual TCG was like that too
I thought the burn dmg half off was because of Lava Golem. I played during the time whem Desparado was a Top tier threat and people use Lava Golem to out board, so I thpught he was the mastermind
I never understood card games like yu gi oh but i liked to try so my freind literally had thousands of yu gi oh cards like 100 people worth in school i was never nerdy in school but when brake happened i tried playing yu gi oh i know about dark magician blue eyes white dragon and big guy eh exodia right? But yeah it seemed fun but id never buy them or pay attention to it alone
how wondering why, duel link only have 4000LP, its much easy to burn dagger elma wont works using this card, bcose dagger elma need to be destroy to go back in hand, not just send to GY
I remember having played against it. This and cyber angels give me nightmares, i still quit matches if i play against someone with cyber angels especially Dakini
It's funny when a card already states " half of something as effect damage" so they went and wrote "a quarter" on the card instead, making some numbers real awkward.
I had this deck in duel links. It was beautiful. People would rather quit the duel if they ever had the chance then risk going through all the otk burning.
I was reading watch bell one day and in the extra pages there was a mamodo design competition one of the featured designs that didn't really manage to get to the high spots but was notable for the author was plagiarized from this card
MTG has a worse card that thankfully has never been reprinted since its first release. Literally a land that doesnt give you mana and taps for an effect that doesnt benefit you at all
I vote we ban bamboo swords it’s part of to many ftk/otk decks with this and exodia and so on in short we need to ban the problem cards that splash to much
Ah so that's one I checked lava once and saw that it did half the dmg it used I was so confused back then back I accepted it since I didn't really use lava golem
