As an American, I’m very sorry to hear what’s become of the NHS 🙁. It sounds very much like the UK is drifting towards the fully for-profit model we have here. Trust me, you don’t want that.

I am a Spanish Hospital Operating Theatre Practitioner, trained at Guys, over 40 years working in London and Holland. Just before the pandemic I was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. I went through the usual process and was booked to be operated. Then the pandemic came and understandibly my op was postponed. I could not work, my hernia was worsening, walking was painful. During the pandemic my operation was postponed once again and after the pandemic I got a letter from the hospital to the effect that, because I had been in the waiting list for so long, I had to start the whole process from start, so I guess to the bottom of the waiting list! That's when I decided to return to Spain, where I hadn't worked or paid taxes as I had emigrated. I went to see my designated GP and, to cut a story short, I was operated 6 weeks later. I haven't looked back since, I stayed in Spain and, not surprisingly, I've given up working for the NHS too.

When you let foreign companies making massive profits in the UK and moving abroad these companies should be hammered in tax ,there are loads of them surely they should be putting something back into the country where they are making billions in profits and moving it abroad.

We as a people have escaped from the last part of the Tories plan to privatize the NHS. They had been following the tried and tested plan, (1)underfund it, (2)it begins to fail and (3) ask private money to "save " it. We came very close, already 40% has been sold off and if they'd had another 5years we'd have the US experience of people either going bankrupt or dying. However I worry when I hear the word "reform", it can mean many different things. Anyway I live in hope that the one thing that we can as a nation be truly proud of will survive and be true to its founders words.

How the world broke !!??:- Subcontractors ! Let's pay the folk at whitehall, to pay a board of trustees, to pay a subcontractor, to pay it's managers, to pay workers who manage about 3 hours work a day! It's got nothing to do with hard working Nurses and doctors. They do a full.shift. It's about Tories farming out their jobs to others and nobody complaining because half of them work for the subcontractors and their pensions depend on it. Therefore their is a sub tier of people who actually do the work. Plus another tier of them are forced to be self employed, despite having a boss, because a loophole was promised to be plugged decades ago. The Tories realised that if they did then nobody would be doing any work after 1 pm at all.

The conservatives were abdolutely happy to see nhs get to this point.was never their thing.the nhs along with the welfare state were labour and socialist poilices and the tories have always resented both things.i mean why would they ever go for anything that helped people that might need the help.

I worked in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary from 1971 to 1974 and then Medical Physics later. I took part in the NHS picket lines during the Winter of discontent in 1974 and left as a Mature student grant payed me £2 more a month! No change there then. Can Scottish Nationalists not be PATRIOTIC? or is that just one more thing English nationalists can have and call all other mistakes like Brexit and Race Riots "British"? You prevent us from even voting for independence. No lessons were learned clearly from the painful birth of the Republic of Ireland or the fact that the DUP is finished and Ireland will unify due to Brexit.

A recent visit to A&E was an eye opener, 9 Hours wait with severe pain unable to walk ,only a handful of staff ,not many patients around, it still took more than 9 Hours, where are the funds ? Who was and is in control of funds? There wasn't one senior doctor on duty? This certainly is not the NHS I know of ? The public have been let down in no name lack of funds , maybe patients are not referred by GPs ? Some funds are held by GPs for each patient.

Obviously JoB won't be mentioning the strikes.

40:50 the problem i have with that is it sort of ignores the fact that that was also true from the founding of the nhs right through to today so if 5 year terms makes the long term planing required for the nhs to function impractical then how do you explain all the decades where it was done and did work?

As far as I know, they've done research on why some people get bitten and not found anything conclusive.

Fifties sixties seventies I reckon the NHS was perfect for all round care. A doctors appointment now consists of a telephone appointment. In the past no appointments just attend the surgery.

James, if you decide to register for the Nurses Bank you have to do it through an agency too! I think the tipping point came with the creation of Trusts. Since then hospitals are run as a business and staff their cash mules. They have even used fire and rehired to downgrade nursing staff!

What about the money they pay the panel of NHS private law firms who might be making unnecessary work for themselves by initiating premature claim correspondence to stop patients going through the NHS complaints process to scrutinize issues in the NHS. Issuing premature litigant In person letters to patients because they cancelled an appointment due to not getting any conclusive diagnosis to ongoing post surgery pain, and the patient at that point is not seeking a claim they are seeking a definitive diagnosis for treatment?. Are NHS private panel law firms stopping the NHS complaints process from working effectively and stopping complaints feedback from inputting into improvement by issuing premature claims correspondence to patients who have yet to put in a claim? Is this premature claim correspondence done to intercept the patient in investigating their issues? Because once the claim correspondence is issued, it places the patient into a litigious position even though they may not be at that point thinking of litigation. The NHS panel of law firms who are all private should have their budget evaluated, why is public money propping up private law firms? Why doesn't the NHS have it's own lawyers and barristers employed directly?

Ban kids/teenagers from something like social media and all they'll do is learn how to hide it from you. Some things absolutely need a hard ban, a categorical NO from a parent - drugs and cigarettes for example. Other things, I believe, need open communication and a little bit of trust. I want to trust my sons with social media and alcohol when they get to those respective ages, because I want them to come to me if there's something that scares or worries me.

It broke because the percentage of net-takers (in terms of tax paid compared to welfare received) in the country has dramatically increased since 1997. They cannot fund the Indian space programme, feed the weapons companies and look after the work-shy AND fund public services at the same time. It's a simple equation that is often ignored. Transferring wealth is a sticking plaster and on the scale planned almost catastrophic.

We have the census every 10 years for a people count to plan our infrastructure. To know how many schools we need, roads, hospitals, prisons, houses, etc. With endless immigration, we can't keep up.
