I run you through all the flight instruments in the helicopter and what they all do. I also take a couple minutes to explain what happens to a helicopter who has a tail rotor failure in flight and in the hover.

Thanks .... Great straight forward video. After you practice many times it will become 2nd nature. While flying you are always looking for a place to land.

Thank you for making some great GA videos on helicopters! You check all the boxes for a good video. Mounted, non-shaky good quality cameras, good audio, and a plan on what you want to show people. I hope all the time and effort you put into these videos pays off and is rewarding for you!

I purchased a single seater Mosquito Helicopter, built it at the factory and now I'm taking my recommended training in a two seater "R22". I've always enjoyed watching your training videos and was always hoping in the back of my mind, that I could get to Canada and take lessons from you. That of course, hasn't happened thus far but it doesn't stop me from wishing. I'm approaching my 4th hour of flight time and I've got to tell ya....if it wasn't for the encouragement my instructor kept giving me during my first flight hour, I would have put a for sale sign in the window of mine! I don't think people realize the amount of training it takes to fly these things safely and effectively! Thank you again.....for taking the time to help all of us...from "BP" (Baby Pilot) to the Seasoned ones!!

Fantastic explanation of Tail rotor failure. Very insightful and descriptive. You made the whole emergency sound very calm and safe. Well done
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 7 лет назад
Haha I don't think anything would be calm if it really happened but at least if you know what to do you can react as quickly and appropriately as possible. Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video. It's always awesome to hear people's feedback.

I've never flown a helicopter myself (been a passenger in a 206B though!) so it's very interesting to know what all the dials do. I imagine with the piston engine there's far fewer dials than a turbine? Another great video 👍🏼😎
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 7 лет назад
Yes a turbine has a few more things to be looking at. Not too much more though.

Just an idea for another video. Would love to see the start up procedure for a helicopter. The steps taken from completely off to ready to fly.
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 7 лет назад
That's a great idea. Maybe I'll wait until the Guimbal arrives and then I'll do it on that. I think a lot of people would really enjoy seeing the start procedures on one of those.

Hey Mark, that's fantastic to hear. Where do you live? Are you in Canada? I will be doing a start up procedure video soon. I've done a real basic one in one of my videos but I'll do an official one some time soon.

Hi Misch, Nah I live in Sunny Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia. I have a friend who is a Helo' pilot in Canada. I think he was flying in and out of the snow fields?? I have a dream of building an Aviation Company here and teaching people how to fly, but as cheap as i can make it, that way anyone can learn to conquer their dream. Love you stuff keep up the great work

Hey Misch great explanation as always. Is there any real chance of over speeding the rotors in the flare on an autorotation? how fast are they allowed to go?
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 7 лет назад
HappyCamper yes there is a real chance to overspeed. Depending on the helicopter and how heavily loaded you are. There is always an allowable tolerance that you can go up to but it is something that we monitor in the flare. We can always raise a little collective if we need to.

Flying a helicopter, the gauge that will concern me the most will be the engine/main-rotor rpm indicator.
@suresh1957
@suresh1957 7 лет назад
Hello ! Very lucid explanations ! Question: How much time do you have between onset of tail rotor failure and engine shutoff? In other words, how fast should you react? Thanks Suresh France
@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 7 лет назад
It kind of depends on what state of flight you are in. If you are in forward flight or in the hover, or slow flight. If you are in full forward flight you have a fair bit of time because there is a lot of keel affect on the helicopter. However if you are in the hover you have less than a second to react if you want to get the helicopter down to the ground without spinning around too much.

Through the movies we were taught to shoot the Trail rotor to take down a helicopter. I don't know if I could Pilot because of NOTS. Every time the wife would say NOT the fight was on.

@PilotYellow
@PilotYellow 4 года назад
ytmail1000 yes some helicopters have autopilot. If you don’t have it the pilot has to maintain the altitude. Helicopters with wheels fly much faster.
