2 things that stood out to me: 1. Even in 2022, face to face meetings generate more business than cold messages/emails to prospective clients. 2. Generate a portfolio of the kind of work you want to do so it’s ready to show a client when you get a chance. Then they can see their own industry reflected in your work.
@eladbari

Feels like face to face meetings are more random (stepping into a store and offering yourself etc). Did you manage to arrange a meeting with a client you actually targeted and wanted to work with? If so, then how did you pull it off?
@BrendanEvan
@BrendanEvan Год назад
@@eladbari not sure if you’re asking me or @matteo but I’ve seen success with in-person connections not necessarily face to face ones. So a friend of a friend needs photos, I get referred, and we do business via email.
@eladbari
@eladbari Год назад
@@BrendanEvan yeah, buddy, I replied to your comment. You said face to face meetings are most prolific, and I agree. I just was asking how those personal meetings come to be. Did you manage to make an appointment with a client you set as a target to work with and if so- how did you pull it off

Emails direct to clients (not other production companies) has worked for us. You just have to understand that it's a numbers game. Also, being a RU-vidr is just a negative in the eyes of gatekeepers with snobby attitudes. You don't want to work with them anyway.
@eladbari
@eladbari Год назад
How do you find their direct email and go beyond the production company. That's the question. Also, these clients, tho, still are used to work through those production companies as they arrange everything. So, you're saying that clients started working directly with you?

I’m only in the third year of videography and I can tell you this is all 100% correct. Relationships and client networks are your bread and butter. It’s tough tough tough

Great insight. I think people forget how important it is to build up your own community, a lot of people want to join something that is already built.

DJ to Filmmaker! Many of us out there haha - Fantastic - Everything I have learned 10 years + DJing has translated almost seamlessly to Filmmaking. Ambience, reading the room, tone, pace, posture, humility, energy, reaction, emotion, novelty etc.. list goes on.

That's real. Marketing has always been a silent experience for me. Every client I've every had came via a network or referral. Frustrating. I totally agree about the DP "mate" problem too.

Thanks for the tips and sharing your experience Matteo! Just wanted to share my feedback since following your material for the past year. I think you have a great teaching gift and maybe there are more opportunities for you as well in your new location to network through this avenue as well. I feel like maybe there are some strong doors that would open for you in that arena since you flow so well in that gifting. Just some thoughts and encouragement in this new season for you in Europe. Once again thanks for all the videos! Cheers👍

Ciao Matteo!

Hi Matteo, good content mate :) just curious: how did you manage to get a 5k budget accepted if you only did filmmaking at the disco, at that time? Didnt the client request portfolio for that amount of money? Im from Portugal as well, someday we should grab a beer. Cheers!

Hi Matteo, did you enjoy living in Tampa and do you think there is much opportunity there for video production? Also, do you think the LA production scene will dissolve now that one can live anywhere and do amazing work? Thanks!

Thank you for sharing Matteo, very inspiring. Would love to hear your take on what LA is like for indie filmmakers. And have you had situations early in your career where a client wanted to go a creative direction that you did not like, how do you deal with that?
