How Do I Get Over The Fear Of Leaning My Motorcycle? Does The Weight Matter? No!!

Hello RU-vidrs! A special hello to my fellow PRELOADERS! For those of you that aren't PRELOADERS yet, hit that subscribe button and become one. In this video I discuss leaning the motorcycle and steps to take to get over the fear of doing so. Trust and believe (Exercise #3) as well as a good command of the friction zone are the keys to successful turns with sufficient lean at low speeds.
You may be asking yourself, who are PRELOADERS?
PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
What does PRELOAD mean?
PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

Thank you Robert. I've been doing a lot of practicing, my wife knows I've been watching your videos, we were out riding the other day and I made a u turn, using what I've seen you do and say, and from nowhere my wife said " good job " that felt good. I didn't think anyone would notice but me. Again thank you for making me a better and safer rider. Not just for me, but also for keeping my wife safe while riding with me.

Jimbo brother... Man it is my absolute pleasure. I think that's awesome because if your wife regularly rides with you, she noticed the difference in your riding. That is outstanding!👍🏾 And most importantly, you're insuring that she's safe and in so doing, she will feel safer. At the end of the day, that's really the most important thing... Our safety. Excellent job Jim!!

Hello Robert, thank you for what you do and all the great advise you provide, Ive been learning and understanding a lot but can please give you a bit of advise regarding your audio and I mean this in the most sincerest helpful way possible and I hope you don't get offended. Your audio recording levels are too high, you are over driving and clipping, distorting the audio recording because of it. You should have some sort of VU metering (most recording devices have built in VU metering) that allows you to visually see your levels, your peaks should crest 0 db (or a little above) only occasionally. Even if you don't have a meter do some trials of your own and try recording at a lower levels. Please don't make the mistake of recording at high levels thinking you need the volume. You can record at lower distortion free levels and have the ability to drive the mix at higher volumes. Its counter intuitive but you can drive to much higher volumes when recording levels are reasonable because its distortion free. Again thanks for all you do, stay safe, all the best!

Hi Anton. Thank you very much and I have noticed that. Because I wear t-shirts, when I put the mic at the top of the shirt, it's right under my mouth and when I'm speaking loud, yes it's way too close. I've started using my lavalier microphone so I can have it further away from my mouth and I've already seen the improvement.👍🏾

I appreciate your lessons and encouragement. I am a fearful preloader. I'm gaining but slowly. I think your emphasis on slow riding is justified, however, road strategy and riding skills on the road are equally mandatory. Defensive riding in traffic and on the streets is critical also. How many of us die not by doing u-turns or turns from stop but rather by entering a turn too fast? How many of use miss seeing oncoming traffic and fail to slow down just in case the car driver doesn't see us? I recommend the RU-vid channel MCrider for that side of the equation for safe and enjoyable mc riding. Keep up your good work. I thank you. C

Good points. IMHO - I think many die the way you describe because they are not "the boss of their motorcycle". At the end of the day, I can die those same ways in my car. But to your point, some of us are not at the same place in our experience, need for improvement, or desire. MCrider, MotoMadness, and DanDantheFireman are all entertaining for those seeking other venues. Have a great day!

I am retired after 40 years as a long haul trucker. I live on a very small income and I can barely afford my road king. If I damage it, its gonna take money that is hard to come up with for repairs. I'm pretty good at slow turns, but I am not to the point that I could drag my floor boards. Love your Vids, and I'm gonna keep trying to get over the financial fear!

Hey Joe. No counter steering is going on. I'm sure you mean counter balancing and I'm not doing that either. I'm just allowing the motorcycle to lean further down. I don't have to push much. Gravity takes care of some of it.

I took the MSF safety class for beginner riders and failed by 3 points, 1 for putting my foot down in a u turn and 2 for too long of a "quick stop". The quick stop was all in my head...the guy in front of me dropped his as it had just started raining and the bike before him was leaking oil. The u turn was lack of control. They told us to feather the clutch. So I did. But it felt so unstable I put my foot down. So, now I'm gunna gear up and go practice your technique which sounds like it works better. Thanks for this!

Robert corect me if I am wrong, from what I understand once your RPM's are settle and your cluch is in it's''allow mouvement'' position then the whole thing is governed by the rear brake uniquely

I’m not sure I understand your question. If you’re asking if the rear brake is used exclusively, the answer is yes.

At 21:22 What I learned was not so much the position of your clutch hand, but noticed that you sit straight up while the motorcycle leans during turns rather than you leaning together with the motorcycle. In other words, I learned & observed your body position, not clutch position. (although you haven't mentioned body position, as least not yet) Thanks for all your efforts which benefits us all. Thumbs up!
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 2 года назад
Thanks Jeff. But just to be clear, the position of your clutch (being in the friction zone) is the most important thing. Body position isn’t important at all as it pertains to making turns. Counterbalancing just makes the rider feel the sensation of falling less.

I have a decent parking lot close to my house which I practice at than I finish with going on my designated route I follow and every session I add 1 more leg to my route each session. I am getting over my fear of leaning, and I am actually having fun leaning. My problem is when I'm cornering and I am either at too high of a speed for the corner or I just need to add more counter steering, my mini panic kicks in and I have to fight myself pullong the handle instead of pushing... I have run off the road because I panicked and tried to pull into the turn. I KNOW better... but when I get scared, my brain tells me to do the opposite of what I need to... I'm guessing lots more miles will fix that 🤷‍♀️

I'm struggling to hold a steady amount of power on the throttle, and I especially screw it up taking right turns...I think I accidently move my throttle hand more when I move the handlebars. I am also squeezing so hard my hand gets tired and hurt very quickly. Hoping more practice gets me past all this.

Are you riding the rear brake or periodically tapping it? How do you feel about clutchless low speed turns and u turns? Some guys just rely on throttle and front and rear brake, completely ignoring the clutch.
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle 3 года назад
I do both. Regarding clutchless anything, that doesn’t even exist in my world. Unless you’re riding a DCT, the clutch is vital to slow speed riding because that’s where the friction zone is.
