This was fantastic, I had no idea you have a youtube channel! I just got into disc dyeing, and can't wait to see your bigger cell dye tutorial! Dyeing discs, even with doing lots of research beforehand, has been a steep learning curve for me, but this video was very clear and easy to understand/follow. Thank you so much for making this!

Thanks! Excellent tutorial! I will be giving this a shot. I tried to do a cell dye before but it didn't turn out well so I didn't post it on my channel. Can't wait until you put out the tutorial for the bigger cells. Thanks again.

@@CellularDyes any chance you'll be making another tutorial? I'd love to see how you use silicone oil to get the larger cells. Cheers!

I like to fashion a little handle or two out of tape on the back of the disc to get a better/safer hold before I set the disc in the bed

Hey! I'm having some of my discs getting rough like sandpaper on the top after I dye them with your method. I wash them thoroughly right before. Am I just adding too much heat or am I not stirring the prochem dye enough?
@CellularDyes
@CellularDyes 2 года назад
Honestly, that happens occasionally for me as well, and I haven't figured out why. But a really good scrub afterwards usually gets most of the sandpaper feel off.

I see that acetone/dye mixture was listed in your description. When did you use that?

I use that for spin dyes :) and glue dyes as well

I just order everyting to try it !! But does it change the grip or impact the flight ?? Thanks for the video !!!!
@CellularDyes
@CellularDyes 2 года назад
The dyeing process should not change the weight, the grip, or the flight of the disc. It is just changing the pigments in the plastic. Have fun dyeing your discs!

Just a few questions, does torching the top just make the floetrol get more cells? Similar to your oven method? How does rite dye more synthetic compare to pro chemical dye with this method? How many discs can you dye on one bed before you should throw it out?
@CellularDyes
@CellularDyes 2 года назад
Great questions and sorry for the late reply. But yes, torching will help create cells on top. I haven't used rit very much so I can't speak on that. And as far as how many discs I can use, the biggest issue is when the colors muddy up and make brown. Sometimes that happens after just 2 times, sometimes I can keep a bed going for 7-8 discs. Really depends.

What dye do you use?
@savagemustelid421
@savagemustelid421 2 года назад
Great tutorial!... However, my discs didn't take the dye. I'm using a high-quality powder dye that I use for tie-dying and followed all the steps. But when I rinsed off the goop after 4 hours, I got Nothing... thoughts?
@CellularDyes
@CellularDyes 2 года назад
My guess would be that you are using dye meant for cotton, not polyester. The only dye that really works for me if ProChem dye, which you can find a link to in my video. Give that a shot and you'll have bright colors on your disc in no time!

How permanent is this? Curious if this method can be used to just mark them with my info instead of sharpie as I have unfortunately recently run into someone using one of my lost discs that they just scrubbed my sharpie marks off of.

What’s the temperature of the oven for four hrs?
@CellularDyes
@CellularDyes Год назад
Don't use an oven, just get a cheap heat lamp. I have since moved away from ovens due to safety.
@rtzeexy374
@rtzeexy374 Год назад
Good first tutorial, I don’t remember if you said that you don’t use that oven for food because that wouldn’t be smart if you do but good thing to point out if children watch this and follow Steve by step and then use the family oven that wouldn’t be great
@CellularDyes
@CellularDyes Год назад
Great advice! I have since moved to using heat lamps because the dye is unsafe for food for sure.

How are you getting those huge cells you're getting on your ig? The rainbow style dyes you have?

I will be putting out another tutorial soon. But the key difference is putting silicone oil in your colors to get those large cells. Stay tuned for the next video!

I want to say that is a floetrol bed bc i think the glue would have cured a bit more under a broiler and in the oven, but im not 100% sure. he also said when laying the disc down touch one end to the floetrol

All floetrol

Yes, it was just plain floetrol. No glue needed

When I do this process, it seems to not stick so well on my disc. It colors the plastic but it doesn’t come out nearly the same. I did it on clear plastics I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

Try star/esp/Fuzion should have a much better effect

You can leave it in the bed much longer than 4 hours. Most tutorials say 12-24 hours even for opaque white, which is much easier to dye. 4 hours is way too short for clear. I saw one tutorial where a guy uses a ziplock bag with diluted worm dip, so he dyes both sides of a clear disc at the same time. It worked nicely to turn clear into solid pink or yellow in only a few hours, but that only works to make them non-clear and easier to find.

@CellularDyes 2 года назад
I usually have troubles with clear plastic as well. Try on more solid colored discs. You can get decent dyes on clear plastic but it takes more time to figure out. Longer sit times and darker colors usually helps.

How much flotrol in each cup?

I would do 4 oz per 1/2 teaspoon of dye
