You and I are going to drink a lot of coffee together. Like, borderline dangerous amounts of coffee.
So, first things first. Pour yourself a mug and I’ll introduce myself real quick.
My name’s Jordan - but everyone calls me “J” - and I’m a 27th degree black belt in chugging coffee.
I’m also strength & nutrition coach, I hold several powerlifting world records, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my writing featured in a variety of outlets like CNN, the Huffington Post, and Schwarzenegger.com.
But listen.
This channel isn’t for fame, publicity, cash, props, fist bumps, likes, pings, pows or whatever else there is.
It’s a place where you and I can chat.
I’ll never sugar coat, lie, or beat around the bush. I’ll tell you everything exactly as I see it. Some stuff you might like. Others you might not.
And that’s totally cool.
Either way, my goal here is to create a discussion. A place where you and I can get together, exchange ideas, and motivate each other to be better every day.
Like I said, we’re gonna drink a lot of coffee together - borderline dangerous amounts - but I’m excited. Because there aren’t too many online communities in which the sole purpose is to inspire and motivate one another.
And that’s exactly what you and I are going to do here.
To your success,
-J

I've just tuned 40 and was sitting at 255 lbs. I started walking 10,000 steps a day on January 30th. I have added light weights three times a week, a kettle ball routine twice a week and I jog on the weekends. It's March 13 & my current weight is 235. I have also changed my diet to a more nutritional one usually getting in around 1600 to 1800 calories, while still enjoying my occasional craving. I also keep an eye on my macros. This can be done if you dedicate to it. Thank you so much for the videos and advice.

At the beginning of my journey, I lost 7 pounds, and then went into a month long ‘plateau’ and quit for like a month. I then went to a dietician for a keto type diet because I was convinced I was insulin resistant. Although I lost weight while I was seeing them, the most important thing I learned at the dietician was that, if I actually tracked my calories while I was keto, the weeks I never lost weight, were the weeks I was over eating and not in a deficit. Needless to say I quit the dietician and have lost 6 pounds since then while eating all the carbs. Long story short: Calorie deficit #sortinghatsquad :)

I know this won’t work for everyone but this video is so spot on it’s mind blowing. I was in a calorie deficit for probably two years and I lost my period and my sex drive but now that Im slowly increasing it’s all come back. Patience is key with everything here. I just can’t believe how spot on everything you are. I’ve learned so much from you in the past year, and have passed it on to people I have inspired on my IG so thanks! It’s science! Eat one half a piece of steamed fish. Add some lemon pepper for taste. 3 boiled eggs and 1 cup each of broccoli and cauliflower steamed everyday. And only this with water you will be in deficit. The hunger u get while u re in a calorie deficit is because your stomach capacity is bigger and in it fits more calories than your body actually needs . If you re in a calorie deficit means you wanna lose weight ,if you wanna lose weight means you re fat ,if you re fat means you eat too much than your body actually needs so....u make deposits of fat ! Well .....!thats why u re hungry in a deficit ...cause you eat less than you actually are used to . 👍🏼💪🏼 But only a thing i could say to all of you NO MATTER WHAT ,NEVER GIVE UP ! Did ur deficit today have been a fail ?! It s okay ,tomorrow and next days u can make it ! If there s will to make it ,you ll make it !!! Have patience and dont be harsh to uself .... Take it slowly ,also the weight u gain ,u didnt gain it overnight ,so u cant expect to lose it like that fast .

Appetite is is usually mistaken for hunger. Because we have so much food available 24 hours a day, we never allow our stomachs to completely empty and then we eat when it’s “meal” time instead of when our bodies are ready for more food. I can ALWAYS tell I’m in a calorie deficit, because the first day or so I actually hear my stomach growl and that’s something that NEVER happens without me making an effort to curb my calorie intake. Love you. #sortinghatsquad

Hey Jordan! This has seriously come at the best time. Since stumbling on to your channel back in October, I have spent the last few months just tracking and getting my head in the game. Not consistent in calorie deficit, but I needed to work on my head first. I'm now tracking everything (not just the good stuff) and despite a minor wobble where I signed up to a shake diet (facepalm...) I'm finally in a position where consistent calorie deficit is something I can do without my head trying to sabotage. I'm mostly CD now, just with a few Christmas celebrations that, for one, I'm enjoying and NOT beating myself up for - they were conscious decisions I've made. I've also not gone over my CD on days where I had celebrations - I just made the choice not to indulge those days - I've NEVER done that before, I've always treated Christmas as a big free-for-all. I've committed to the next 90 days post Christmas (literally have the Harry Potter 2020 calendar on the wall for those circles and x's) and can't wait to share how I go with you. Thank you so much for your no-nonsense (and also much nonsense!) approach and finally giving me back the confidence that I'm not a special butterfly, I just need to stick to it and it will come. Again, thank you. #sortinghatsquad

Imho weight is the worst way to measure your body fat, unless you're overweight. Weight can fluctuate just by the stuff you've eaten or drunk. I'm using the Navy method to calculate my body fat. Body weight isn't even a factor that will change the outcome there. I know what waist circumference is good for me and that's what I'm going by.

Consistency. Patience. Do what you gotta do when you are not motivated. These are my weaknesses!! After I lost 40 lbs, I lost my focus. I have been somewhat maintaining my weight. But I still have 25 lbs to lose to achieve my goal. I am watching your videos to get these 3 qualities that I need! #sortingnhatsquad

Deficit, Patience & Consistency are the 3 tips things you’ve instilled in me since finding you! The 90 day consistency calendar/pass or fail daily tracker had helped me soo much! Can finally see why where I can improve! I take the total days I passed my calorie target within 100 calories and divide that by days of the month & can see that I have not even been 80% consistent with my deficit. Now it’s time to focus on improving that! Thanks J! #sortinghatsquad

I have been binge watching your videos and sending your Instagram profile to so many of my friends. I love your message and your style. For the past month I've just been focusing on staying consistent and in a calorie deficit. The difference between this time around and previous times, is that I am in a reasonable deficit...because like you say, it's not a fucking race. What am I hurrying for? Your down to earth approach has seriously done so much to help me work on myself and fix my relationship with food. It's honestly empowering. #sortinghatsquad #ravenclaw

I’ve been doing keto for 5 months maintaining a calorie deficit. Definitely experiencing a lot of this except for the increase hunger and tiredness . If anything I feel sharper than ever. Patience is what I’m still learning. I’ve lost 30 lbs during this time and I’m like wtf why isn’t the weight melting off exponentially?!?! But I’m figuring out that at the end of the day it’s all about patience. And I have no other option. If doing it is giving me “slow” results then not going it isn’t going to get me any results. That’s been the hardest lesson but your reassurance has given me a new wave of energy to keep pushing 💪🏽

I'm one of those freaks people hate that can just eat breakfast and go an entire day without feeling hungry. Don't know why, I just never really feel hungry. I got very overweight though due to depression and comfort eating. My feet got colder, I lose fat from my legs and arms first before my torso and face.

This is why as far as the hunger part I’m doing intermittent fasting particularly OMAD (one meal a day). If I have to endure hunger in a deficit it’s more sound for me to not eat and then enjoy fullness once a day. I hear that hunger increases mental clarity anyway.

man it helped my mental state a lot by having 2 points of consistent measurement. every day I weighed myself before my lifestyle change (this was crucial since I found I had a 2kg wide fluctuation) and every week give or take I'd take a waist measurement. I had not started taking progress pictures then (which I am now severely regretting since I don't have my initial photos now) and after eating less and started resistance training around 3-4 times a week I observed that my waist was definitely decreasing ( I saw a 2inch decrease) and my weight had come down by 5kg (from the top weight fluctuation, which is why it was good I daily weighed since I would've thought it was only 3kg loss otherwise). my ratchet belt gave me more clicks, trousers started feeling looser. tl;dr not relying solely on the scale confirmed for me that I was losing weight, ie, that I was in a caloric deficit
