How do I unblock my washing machine pump? 

This tutorial was EXCELLENT. I had the the E.18 error message On my 3.5 year old washer/dryer machine after it failing to complete a wash/dry cycle. It has been making some very loud noises. Everything was dead easy to follow. The inner cap is slightly stiff but was easy to remove with a little force. A lot of water came out the hose but that was to be expected. It was basically clogged with hair and dust and looked like a giant fur ball the size of a ping pong ball. Just ran it on the Delicates/silk “eco wash” without clothes or washing powder and it seems to have completely resolved the problem. I can now happily cancel the engineer that I booked saving me £100 call out charge.

I was wondering how I was going to manage for the next month until I could afford a repair to my machine, and now it's working perfectly after a five minute pump unblock/clean! Thank you!

If someone stubbles upon this video and you are also a broke college student, who doesn't have the tools or the money to hire a plumber. What you can also do it to attempt to tilt the washing machine with a friend or yourself and twist the cork at the same time. Worked for me and I was able to remove the blockage with out going trough this huge deal of disassembly and reassembly. Thank you for the video though, hope this helps anyone else!

Thank you!!! This was fabulous!! I was able to drain the washer and clean the filter all by myself - no repair guy needed! It turns out that having half a zipper and a hair pin in your washing can mess up the machine :)

If you can't remove the blockage after this video then try what has worked for me.First ,turn off the power.Tilt the machine back so you have enough clearance to get underneath.A flashlight comes in handy.There is a spring clip connecting the drain pipe that can be removed with a pliers or vice grip.Take off the pipe and you will see the blockage or feel around for whatever is in there.Be careful with your fingers as you may need to turn the drain cover at the same time to loosen the blockage.Hope that helps.

I had the towel on the floor and the water coming out the filter overwhelmed it. I’d much prefer putting a tray to catch the water but that god forsaken flap is in the way.

Unfortunately they don't explain how to unblock the machine when it is blocked "upstream" from the filter. You know if this is the issue if the water draining out of the rubber hose is very slow or none when there is water still in the drum. If you have this problem (I did-hair), DO NOT, shove something up to clean the blockage. Whilst it can work you risk puncturing a hole in the black rubber outlet hose (as I did). The part is cheap, but it means a few more days waiting for the part to be delivered (they don't allow pickup). Instead, lay the machine on its back and there is a service panel that needs a couple of internal torx screws removing and a couple of clips. From there it is relatively easy to remove the black hose and unblock it.....

How to check impeller is moving freely? Should we on the machine?

Elastic treads combination with lots of hair to the impeller needed to be removed in my case, since I never put a light into the impeller i didn't notice it before, since I do a regular clean of the debries in that space. So make sure to check if something is stuck around the impeller, in my case i'm changing the machine since its old anyway and the pump is fried from that hair and elastic treads mess.

Hello, in my washing machine that down small round door is unable to get close. I opened and cleaned as you said now I can't close the small round door. Please anyone help me to fix this issue. I'm worried if it got damage i don't know how much I need to pay... I have extended warranty also.

Hi, what if the impeller is not moving correctly? I see it might have caught some hairs, can a user remove the impeller or does the whole pump need to be changed?

My washing machine is full of water as nothing has drained ..using the emergency hose will that completely drain all the water from the machine because if it does I’m going to need more than a washing up bowl or is it just a small amount in the hose ..

This is excellent advice. But several people said on here said they couldn't unscrew the filter. It's not a big problem to resolve. Sometimes an object left in a pocket in something in the machine can end up blocked between the hose and the filter stopping the filter from turning. (In my case a tiny screwdriver 2" long). It can be sorted with just basic tools. First as shown drain the water from the machine. Best to disconnect the machine and turn off the water. Depending on how much room you have you may not need to disconnect the hoses. Remove the little round filter cover. You need to unscrew all the screws that secure the filter housing and remove it and those that secure the pump. Then tip the machine backwards at 45 degrees and lean it against an adjacent kitchen unit. Undo the two tiny screws under the front panel near the feet. This will allow you to pull the bottom of the front forward about five inches without totally disconnecting it. Jam something between the left hand edge of the front panel and the side to keep it in that position, I used a rolled up towel. You can then get your left hand in from underneath, (careful, the edges of the cabinet are sharp) and your right though the hole in the front and with a pair of pliers undo the spring clip that secures the pipe from the drum where it's attached to the pump. You'll then be able to fish about in the pump body through that socket with a finger and remove anything that's stopping the filter from turning. Any money you find is yours! This will allow you to unscrew the filter, check for lint, give it a good clean and ensure that the pump impeller blades turn freely. You can use the end of a ball pen to turn them Putting it back again is quite easy, although re-attaching the hose to the pump is more difficult than removing it. You must be sure it's securely attached before reassembly. Youll be having to do this by feel. You need to replace the end of the emergency door release in it's socket in the front of the pump housing. It's just a long plastic strap you'll find ending up swinging about behind the pump when you've disconnected it. It should only take fifteen minutes at the most. (Yes, I've had to do it twice with our machine, having left something in the pocket of some chinos!)

I have just tried this and did find a safety pin and some other bits in there but I am still getting the E18 error. Please advise.
