There is a fair amount of mis-information out there about ShowCockpit and ONYX for mapping MIDI controllers to ONYX. Let's dive in and find out what's true, what's false - and most importantly - how to make a great show!

12:08 Onyx Archive I received this today: Unfortunately we no longer support Enttec and compatible versions were removed from the archive as there were compatibility issues that caused a lot of support concerns. We do not want anyone to operate ONYX in the field using Enttec devices, have issues and then be upset with the software and tell others about their bad experience. For this reason we do not offer it anymore for download. You would have to get an NX DMX or NX Touch to use ONYX 4.4.1193 NX DMX (obsidiancontrol.com) Thanks for understanding! Obsidian Support

@@LearnStageLighting i figured myself, it's an incompatibility between onyx 4.4.1193 and showcockpit 3.16.2 . Downgraded to onyx 4.4.1186 and all it's working as it should :D

@@voxproevents6405 Hi, I'm in the same situation, Showcockpit 4.4.3 only works with Onyx 4.4.1186, but this version is no longer available for download. Although I have reserved an Onyx Essential license (8 univ) I still have the same problem. @voxpro events can you share version 4.4.1186 with me? Thank you

Having only 10 faders isn't enough. I'm trying toget 2 Xtouch's to work on there own device space. But I'm not able to get the 2nd one to control it's own space. Has anyone done this before?

The new OSC version has no control link that Showcockpit can access for the "external macros" you can add to a cue list. The old one had it. That is how I was triggering my audio player to play music or sound fx from a macro cue in my cue list. The cue would fire an external macro and Showcockpit would see it and send midi notes to trigger my media player. Now with the new one I can't trigger audio anymore. Any work around for that one?

Hmmm.... It's not well documented, but the "ScriptExecute" works with the ONYX manager to fire some sort of script - maybe this can work?

Question....Can OSC control any cuelist type via midi so long as its saved to a main playback? In version 4.4 can I use SC to control a submaster saved to a main playback with my APC 20? Or override? What are the limitations?

Yes! There really aren't any limitations - if it's on a main fader (even on an inactive bank, as shown in the video), it will work.

Hi, I have a problem. I did exactly the same thing with an Akai APC Mini as you did in the video, but I get the following error message in Show Cockpit: "Error refreshing: The requested address is invalid in this context" I don't have any control. What can I do?

J'utilise un Enttec DMX pro et donc pour changer les couleurs, j'utilise un cuelist avec plusieurs couleurs. J'utilise un launchpad (parce que vous pouvez configurer chaque bouton avec une couleur) avec une option "Go to cue in cuelist" qui n'existe plus sur la version OSC. A double hell for me, between Onyx not continuing with Enttec and the change of version to OSC 😥😪 It works very well here but I would like to try new effects with Dylos 😩😖

Hi, I have a problem that when i press any button cue on my AKAI 40 MK2 , it really slow respond and delay to my onxy. Do have any idea to fix my problem ? Thanks

No, and I hate that. The team tells me that it's because the hardware design on the NX-DMX lacks encryption (to keep copies/knockoffs away).

Learn Stage Lighting .com Yeah Fair enough. It’s just unfortunate, and somewhat counter intuitive, that in order to remotely control it without a surface, I have to buy (and leave connected), ... a surface. They need an affordable key option.

They actually do no longer support older versions of onyx, there's no way to download it anywhere, it's completely removed and gone👍 (I emailed the support team for a copy but they said they aren't supporting it and have removed it)

I really wish it was possible to use toggle with playback buttons via OSC. It's one of the main things holding me back from upgrading right now. Hoping the OSC commands are expanded on soon.

Is it just me or are you limited to 10 faders with one controller at a time? Showcockpit only seems to go up to 10. Changing banks just changes the bank for the NX/m-touch wing not for the osc device even if its in its own device space. Is there a work arround as only having 10 faders to control sucks?

Yes, that it correct. It's definitely designed to be an "add-on" to ONYX (or just a simple playback setup). You should be able to set the OSC to device space 0 to have it change banks via the bank change keys, though.

Is it possible to setup something like a elation Midicon (I have a pro), to control multiple banks by setting up several virtual devices in showcockpit, each Midicon bank can use it’s own midichannel?

Yes, as they told me, the day came when they had to stop supporting it. At the end of the day, I can't blame them, they can't freely support all the free users that are just there for the unlocked OSC. If you need it for a console or to connect with a console running the older software, they will give it to you :)

Do you want it to exist for the long term and continue to get better? Back in the "old days" the previous owners (Martin) seemed to see the console as an investment to sell fixtures. Not bad, but financially, I don't think it stood on it's own (again, my opinion, no official info here). Elation's brought the pricing up to match or be slightly below many of their competitors, I think it's fair and reasonable given the extra effort they are putting into it.
