This happened quite a while ago, I am an INTP and my cousin is an INTJ for reference, we happened to also be work colleagues. After an overnight shift where we worked, we decided to go to taco bell with two of our coworkers. After we had eaten, we started looking through MBTI comparison memes on tumbler. We stumbled across a notebook comparison photograph of an INTP and an INTJ. The INTP's was what you would expect it to be, a jumbled mess written in a way that the INTP could understand. The INTJ notebook looked uniform and sectioned incredibly neatly. My cousin decided to examine this photograph of the INTJ notebook to see what the notes were about. The following conversation ensued. INTJ: "I can't even read this, this has to be Calculus." INTP: "Hold on, let me see that." INTP: "It's in Russian." Our ENFJ/INFP coworkers just started laughing. To be fair, it was a notebook written in Russian about Calculus. We were both right.

INTPs will devote an enormous amount of thought effort into virtually anything, just for the sake of doing so. In any kind of social group, pose a really absurd or even stupid question about something somewhat complex that serves no actual purpose in reality, pay attention to who jumps at the opportunity to explore and discuss it with you. Wow! Thanks to your video I've realised why I can not fully let go of my very first relationship that ended SIX years ago - that's because I'm a hardcore INTJ and my ex boyfriend an INTP. We met in the government-sponsored fun/study camp for gifted kids. We never spoke a word to each other until a common friend asked him if he liked anyone around and he pointed at me, and that's how it started. When we got stuck on solving one math/physics problem or another, I'd come and tell him from which angle to tackle it from and he'd use the raw computational power I lacked to confirm the approach to be right. People literally had to catch me in the embrace to slow me down, and sometimes I would literally collapse on the ground if I could't MOVE towards something I absolutely HAD to get RIGHT now. His kindness and patience corrected it, as well as explanations i.e ''Let's dance naked on the window sill when people from outside can not see us"'. And I admired how he applied his ruthless intelligence and methodology to everything, including the ruthless methodology of bringing me to an orgasm :D What was really saddening for me is that he was so apathetic (?) that he couldn't dare to dream of anything. So I was constantly kicking his ass to raise his awareness of what he WANTED from life. Unfortunately for us, I knew what I wanted, and it was emigrating to New Zealand, and it broke both of our hearts when we had to part our ways. Now, 6 years later, I'm working as a structural engineer in Auckland and he is working in the science lab that researches DNA and cancer treatment. I have 160 wishes in my bucket list, with 80 ticked off already, and he is still unsure of what he wants to do after Masters/ Phd. I'm obsessed with optimising EVERY process in my life and being as rational and efficient as possible and he is still a kinder and better person than I am. Our relationship is long over but there's still a part of my soul (even though souls do not exist) that cares about him and wishes all the best things in life to him.

You are right as I have felt for years like my very soul is dying, despite being very comfortable and seemingly doing well. It's not that simple for us and I would never have figured it out had it not been for MBTI and the good works of people like you. CHEERS! I still have a long way to go but I feel like I am gaining powerful knowledge I can use to bounce back from a 8 year slump. A costly slump as I am now 38 and my youth is over. But I am trying to look back less and forward more ( hard for us INTP's in regard to what I want and need ) easy in regards to future events and others. I really thought I was a lost cause despite being highly intelligent and excellent at my job something has always felt like it's missing. I am hoping to figure out all these things in time but it's still early days. Your videos add an entertaining flavour to it as well as I love metaphors and clever talk. Good work man!

My relationship with INTJ female was a very exhausting experience. I don't understand my emotions and she doesn't understand emotions of others, so establishing emotional connection was a nightmare. I couldn't even develop a good model of our relationship emotional dynamics with her because she didn't listen to me - instead she has been developing _ad hoc_ her own arbitrary solution for each single issue I was talking about; and flooding me with Te ,then asking questions about *her* plan... I understand her feeling of moral obligation to fix everything and everyone, but I was just trying to understand things and mechanics to see the big picture. Her plans and solutions, based on incomplete data weren't useful to me but overwhelming. Talking with her were sometimes resulting in me doubting in my own thoughts and perception. So it doesn't always work so good...

@@adriantomole1019 Well, it's complicated. I've been suspecting her on being a narcissist , but I'm not sure she is. She is very self-absorbed, but it often seems like some kind of compulsion. She is quite high on conscientiousness, she need to do something all the time (like cleaning, homeworks and "fixing" her environment), even if she is in someone's house for the first time she usually offers her hand in cleaning and helping - because she strongly feels she *should* - I don't think narcissist would behave like that. She had very hard adolescence in dysfunctional family and it shaped her. It seems like her self-centered perception focused on creating and executing her plans, and immediately fixing all issues - is an escape from her own emotional suffering, and especially from emotional interactions/bonds with other people (which she block this way). Describing it MBTI-wise I could say: she is stuck in her Ni-Te to protect her Fi or something like that.

Thank You so much for calling out the duality garbage! I have found myself in the position of informally giving people relationship advice. I’m so frustrated when people cling to the opposites have to be together argument. Off the bat I intuitively know as I have interacted with different kinds of people as an INTJ. I know that an ESFP and INTJ is not a very satisfying, and can be a train wreck. And I know everyone says that two mature people can make anything work. But let’s be honest about the percentage of situations where all the stars align....

Regarding INTJ's making seemingly ''premature decisions'' without regards to the other persons point of view here's my explanation. An INTJ behaves and analyzes according to a framework. With SE being their last function current events are merely an hindrance to the ''reality of the situation''. As paradoxical as it sounds. Let's say an INTJ breaks up with you ''all of a sudden'' without letting you know or trying to ''fix'' whatever area wasn't working or even giving you an opportunity to convince you to give it a try. It's because they don't want you to, they have anticipated so further down the relationship and assessed your level of compatibility in a way that explaining to you how in 3 to 4 months everything would fall apart due to ''X' and ''X'' behaviour would make them sound crazy although hating to admit that most of the time, well ''THEY WERE RIGHT''. This is done both for your and their sake of not losing time, energy and emotions in something that is doom to fail. NI is focused on long term possibilities, TE deconstruction and analysis, FI How this affects me emotionally and what I believe in, put those function together and you get an individual who is constantly living life in fast forward internally meanwhile appearing out of it externally due to inferior SE. In conclusion nothing about the INTJ is ''impulsive'' although to others it may appear so, they've actually weighed this out for a long time and often struggle to put an end to the relationship because we're believers at heart. Now imagine having to explain all of this to your partner. It's useless and most of the time you'll get the usual ''you're exaggerating, going too far etc'' so we learn from an early age to trust our understanding and avoid pouring energy into having our views invalidated due to the perceived ''unlikelihood'' or the incapacity of your interlocutor to project as far like we're some kind of fortune teller. I've been in relationship with an INTP and even he, being an intuitive, thought the NI process was perplexing I'd have to make a lot of effort to explain TE wise what came ''magically'' to me and he'd always question WHERE was the information taken from (typical TI dom). Also, good video, informational, opinionated and yet humorous.
@CSJoseph
@CSJoseph 6 лет назад
While I cannot disagree with you what you are saying, this framework for decision making still leaves room for the INTJ to wrongfully jump to conclusions and make decisions too quickly on those aforementioned conclusions. If the INTJ cares not for the consequences of their actions, then third parties will judge them as selfish.

@@LogicalSuppository Wow I am fascinated by your story about the fight with the person who shouted, "Must you put every single problem under a microscope? Just let me fucking feel!" I can see why an INFP would say that, yet that must have been so difficult. I don't understand how an INTJ can last in any close relationship with someone who refuses to resolve issues or refuses to at least let the INTJ do their analytical thing. If someone says something like what you described to me in a fight, you know what my thoughts typically entail? "You are making me feel really negative things right now and I want to figure out how to make sure I never have to feel this way again." And I don't think they understand that mentality. INTJs have feelings as well, they just take a backseat to our future-oriented analytical thinking. There are things from 13 years ago that I still get angry thinking about, and I think oh if only I had been able to resolve them. I wish people understood that's what it does to us when we can't "fix" things.

SFJs jump to conclusions even more than NJs. I know 'cause both my parents are SFJs and they constantly ascribed negative motivations to me during my childhood when I was just trying to help. At least NJs are interested in psychology, are intuitive and generally more self-aware so there's some kind of room for self-growth as they mature. Try telling the typical SFJ they've jumped to a conclusion and see what happens - denial, indignation, rants, manipulations, counter-attacks, general controlling behaviour due to the Fe/Si or Si/Fe combination. Infact I've rarely met a healthy SFJ - even one who is elderly.

Same with STJs. Quick and often inaccurate jump to conclusions because of intuitive subconscious. It is like they are slowly digging a pit of despair for themselves without knowing. Often need a Ne-parent to keep them in check. NJs have sensory issues, like HSP or Asperger's due to sensory subconscious. They can be helped by Se-parent, such as ISFP.

@@blindsoul7915 My parents are both ISJs, and I dealt with these issues growing up; them just jumping to random conclusions that had no basis in reality and me often getting hurt in the process, and also, not being able to use Ne properly because they were so fearful. Now though, as I've learned of my strong Ne and useless Fe (and it is pretty useless by itself), I have figured out ways to calm my ISJ parents and guide them to make better choices. But this takes FOREVER. GEEZ. They're lucky I care about them so much; otherwise, I'd just have left them to dust (but they also made sacrifices for me, and I'd feel guilty just leaving them like that).

An INFP would be a better pair to an INFJ, because for them everything is about social values and social justice(even though they can be really wrong and uppity about it without doing research). INFJs are really good with people, and that ticks with an INFP because they're all about feeling like a shaman. They're really artsy and indie. An INTP and INTJ pair is more about intellectuality, even though INTP is about metaphysics(like me, I like to imagine certain situations/daydreams/solutions while not really executing anything, it's a real hinder srs), if they get their mind to something, they can pick up on clues really quickly because of the constant thinking process. And the INTJ provides that framework to work with.

I'm an INFJ. I don't mind some INFPs but I know one that is far too heavy with the Fi and that annoys the hell out of me as it's too judgemental and closed-minded - also this person overuses their Si and underuses their Ne so that adds to the traditional, 'not thinking outside the box' approach that INFJs find so petty and boring. An INFP would have to reeeeeeally be using their Ne properly for me to get along with them (and I definitely wouldn't consider getting involved with an INFP male romantically) but then I'm an Ni-Ti subtype of INFJ (in the DaveSuperPowers system) so I tend to get on with NTs well as I've got a high IQ for an INFJ. I am very good at writing academic essays for example and score high marks. So for me personally I don't agree with what you've said - I get on with INTPs and INTJs better than I do with INFPs - that's from my 30-something years of life experience. PS. I'm not at all an SJW - not all INFJs have the same political views. Only some INFJs are the progressive SJW type - I can't stand all that handwringing/banging pots and pans whilst protesting due to the fact I tend not to use my Fe as much as many of them do - I don't come across as sappy or soppy or all about taking care of people and I won't sacrifice myself for anyone else. It all depends on upbringing as to how your functions are balanced out. There are 2 groups on FB for 'INTP and INFJ' and 'INTJ and INFJ' so it's obviously not just me that thinks the above - they're full of happy friends and couples of those types.

I am an INTPish INTJ and everything from my behavior to testing equally high in Ni, Ne, Ti and Te on cognitive tests verifies what seems more than obvious to me. From the first time I took the test and got INTJ and read the description, it seemed very fitting, until I read the INTP description. I read all type descriptions and there was no doubt what so ever, except a little doubt about whether I was in fact an INTP. After watching other types, I soon realized that personality typing is ultimately a continuum and not everyone will fit neatly into a certain "arbitrarily determined number of distinctions" (some systems use 9 types, 16 types, 5 types.....). For instance many type 5 Enneagram are INTP or INTJ (there is obvious overlap). 50% of INTJs are type 5 and 30% are type 1 (big difference). A type 1 INTJ will be more ENTJish and a type 5 will be more INTPish. All man made systems are arbitrary to make better sense of complex nature and personality typing is no different. Ultimately there are 7 billion personality types, but that level of distinction is far to great for any human mind to process and it is unnecessary to glean a basis understanding of general differences in common traits between people. I think 16 types (levels of distinction) is enough without getting too complicated), but for further distinction within types, we must notice the nuances and (intuitively) categorize the sub-types for better understanding. The most difficult thing for me is to put my big picture understandings into coherent words that accurately describe the depth in which I see things. In my mind I need no words, because I see everything in entire concepts and understand the complex whole without needing to break it down into details. It is a fruitless effort, because even if I try to properly explain anything in my long posts, I never run out of tangents which are relevant and connected to the big picture of what I am attempting to describe. I think INTPs and ENTPs are brilliant. I am a "jack of all trades", but I am amazed by the brilliance of Leonardo da Vinci (clearly an ENTP). That man was too smart for his own good (his ideas were so advanced that his era of technology and contemporaries couldn't allow them to come to fruition. I will debate anyone on a topic I am familiar with (I have great faith in my sound logic), but if I had to pick a formidable foe, it would be an ENTP like Lawrence Krauss. As an INTPish INTJ I would say that my greatest strength is finding holes in logic. Or more aptly, people using inconsistent logic. The bells and whistles go off. I am always interested in different perspectives and particularly the ENTP perspective, because they are as raw as people come (even more so than INTJs). If people try to hard to not offend people, then they must suppress the truth. ENTPs lack that sensor (or at least it seems to me) that tells them what not to say to spare feelings of others, albeit they can still come across less insulting than INTJs due to their delivery style.

Well, then, maybe I'll just look for an ENTP! In all seriousness, I'm an INTJ/ISTJ and I've recently just gotten to the point that I don't care anymore about who I offend. I think it's all very stupid and people just need to get over themselves. If someone doesn't like it, it's generally not my problem, because I really don't think you should be emotionally invested in other people's arguments. I'll be very blunt with people at this point, because I believe that most of people's opinions on someone else's statements are deeply rooted in personal bias with very little to no logic behind them. So, that makes me kind of wonder if ENTJs have a similar perspective on the issue or if they would be more tactful.

Paranoid/untrusting. *** Relationship between the two: INTPs and super loyal/comfortable and remind INTJs of INTP good deeds, helping the INTJ paranoia be calmed. Your assessment of the INTJ/INTP pairing is perfectly in line with how I have theorized it to be myself and am very please to hear someone else saying it. I rarely hear it from any "experts" on the subject.

As an INTJ I'm not afraid of people around me being stupid, and I don't think I'm the smartest person in the room. But I'm constantly afraid that people haven't done proper research, which they usually haven't! I'm really hard on my self when it comes to not forming opinions on things I haven't done a lot of research on too. BUT I know that I can be really hypocritical and sometimes jump to conclusions without having done the research when I think it's "just makes sense", in other words it "feeeeeels right".. This is usually when I don't have time to do the reseaech or when it's things that you can't research, for examle what goes on in other peoples heads. My INTP-partner hates that I always ask him to present the research he's done to come up with his conclusion.. I understand it has to be annoying, but many times he hasn't. The thing is, I think of him as smarter than me and know that he probably is right most of the times, but I have to be able to follow his logic to decide if he's right or not. So, pro tip to all logic people talking to us rationals: help us follow your logic by either presenting research or giving us a step-by-step of "this is how I came up with this".

"As an INTJ I'm not afraid of people around me being stupid" "But I'm constantly afraid that people haven't done proper research, which they usually haven't!" Uhhh.... :P Yea, we're not great (merely 'good', at best) at researching, but it's really easy for us to decipher true from false so often only 'some' research is required, the problems arise when an extra bit of information would completely reshape the framework and therefore the conclusions, which is why we really need you to go that extra mile with the research to be sure we've not missed stuff. Sure, it therefore helps to know what we've researched, which is tricky for us, just as it's tricky for you to appreciate that when we're saying things that go against what you believe to be true / common sense / accepted fact. All of this would be sooo much easier, if only we weren't both such "know-it-alls", jumping from deeply complex subject to the next, but then we wouldn't deeply love eachother as much. Glad to hear of another INTP that's got a deep relationship with an INTJ, gives me "hope" that I might sometime too.

i think this video showed me i may have been in my shadow quite a bit recently, which isn't surprising since my life took a bit of a downward turn the past 2/3 yrs, it's kinda stabilising atm but i'm still mostly on edge and in a negative head-space majority of the time due to where i am in my life. i haven't questioned my type in a while till this video then i realised the reason i was is that my shadow has been showing itself more, making my recent experiences coincide with more intj traits. that being said, i'm still gonna haul my ass to the who are intjs video and compare it with the intp one to make sure lol and look into your four sides of the mind video which i realistically should have started with :p edit: also great videos! i'm glad to have stumbled upon your channel, it's getting me back into the whole mbti thing which i kinda gave a rest to for a while. so much stuff here that i wasn't aware of.

So I’m an INTJ, I took a professional test from work that said I was but when I took 16 personalities and other tests online the results were inconsistent. This made me very paranoid about which personality I actually am so I did extensive research of how to tell if you’re not an INTJ and the cognitive functions of an INTJ. Only once did I actually watch your videos and learned to type myself through cognitive functions did I finally accept the fact that I actually am an INTJ. I really wanted to make sure I didn’t mistype myself cuz I’ve researched that most people who are typed as INTJ from tests aren’t actually INTJ and I did not want to fall into that category.

Love, love your videos. I'm an INTP and yes, I force myself into routines b/c I: drop shit, break shit, lose shit. All The Time. My keys go in the same place every day b/c otherwise I'm late for work, searching every coat pocket and tabletop in the house (and chances are, I'm already late for work lol)...and my keys are in the garbage can or the fricking refrigerator. Super annoying. Yeah, my secret (public? lol) fear is that other people are stupid but you're correct, with INTJs it's never an issue b/c INTJs are Wicked Smart and they know what they're talking about and it's logical and they can prove it. I always find them to be very, very good at explaining and teaching things to me. I find it to be very true that INTJs want to give people a good experience and make them comfortable, and as an INTP I just soak that stuff right up. My boyfriend is an INTJ and yes, I can categorically, systematically recall every single good thing he's ever done for me.

I must be the most impatient Intp on the planet. I have zero tolerance for manipulation ,control,stupidity. If my food isn't ready when I am, I become very aggressive and agitated. When waiting on just about anything, I sometimes just give up or take care of it myself. I really have almost zero patience of any kind, except when I'm interested in something ,then I have all the patience and time in the world.

My new dentist is an INTJ and I'm an INTP. I went in for a routine teeth-cleaning that was supposed to take an hour but ended up taking 3 hours - we finally had to agree to stop conversing so that he would stop losing money on me even though I was the last appointment for the evening lol.

This video is a lot more accurate about INTP than the others I've seen so far, probably because it describes a stable and comfortable situation and doesn't rely on the usual stereotypes. Also far more succinct. That anecdote about the broken window really speaks volumes. I had a similar incident when I was young.

It is true that INTJs can jump to conclusions too quickly (that is what they do and often it is correct,but Ni can only come to the right conclusion if the data at hand is correct) and that is why my favorite poem is "Cookie Thief" by Valerie Cox. Everyone should read this poem before they go out into the world everyday (everyone has a tendency to jump to conclusions) to remind them how easily they can be fooled by their own biased perspective and assumptions. I think INTJs are even less likely than most types to make this mistake, but why people notice the INTJ failure is because they are used to being right and thus are so adamant (confident) that they are right, even when they are the "Cookie Thief". If you haven't read the poem, read it, because it is absolutely brilliant in depicting this flaw in human arrogance.

@@arturkvieira I'm not sure that's why. I make decisions so quickly that they're sometimes just assumptions. And when I hear the accurate information, I assume it's wrong because my conclusion felt so right. When I see that I really did get it wrong, I feel stupid and embarrassed. I also feel humbled and mortified if I treated someone badly when they corrected me, which is not uncommon; I wish it were. Improvements are underway. Some of us might stick to our guns. I think that it must be out of immaturity, but I tend to pretty naive about people's motives.

A problem in the dynamic I (INTP) have with my INTJ ex-bf/friend is that we both generally are pretty misanthropic, and I more so than him have a tendency toward nihilism, and that can spiral pretty quickly and be self re-enforcing. Neither one of us will lift the other up. So, we kind of have to keep each other at arm's length to an extent so we don't go into unhealthy thinking patterns. As far as a friendship goes, it's fine most of the time, but it was really terrible when we dated. Personally, I think we would both be better in a romantic relationship with NFs, and probably extraverts, who will make us appreciate people more and get us out of our shells.
