I have to say... U.S.A. has successfully conducted their 'globalization' project - penetrating into core cultures in so many different countries. The US has exported their music (Taylor Swift, Billie Elish, etc.), movies, RU-vidrs, food, culture, brands (Nike, i-Phones, The NBA, politics and so on) so successfully that most people who are interviewed here are having a parasocial love for the USA (there was even one person who was baffled the USA never showed love towards S.E.A. countries). This interview just proves how the USA has changed the culture of the Millennials and Gen-Z generations very deeply. Ask a Malaysian to name 10 traditional music instruments in Malaysia and I bet you that 90% of them can't do so. On another note: What I think of America: They see China as a threat and wants to be no.1 in the world.. I'm like, what's wrong with China being an industrious country? Just let them be hard working and mind your own business. My impression of Americans: A narcissist country that thinks they need to be the policeman of the world. Telling other countries what to do and who to be friends with. To be honest, if Malaysia wants to do business with Russia and China, what's the problem? The Western media makes it sound like it's a bad thing.
If your livelihood along with thousands of others isn't affected when the PRC steals your country's rightful EEZ, then I can see why you think that way. As for business, they have a winner-takes-all mentality. When they set up shop outside of the PRC, they had no intention of contributing to the local economy or creating jobs. From labor to supplies, everything is sourced from their country. The same goes for construction projects. From the management team down to the grunts to the entire catering crew and supplies, all from china; even the freaking toilet paper.
Smart people are just smart, regardless of which country. But if you want to go by the IQ average, the website international -iq-test surveyed that Malaysia ranks at 38, 'smarter' than America which ranks at 46.
Sounds like most of those u interviewed are familiar with NY and California. I studied in Texas long ago in the 80's and did some travelling in the summer. I really enjoyed it. Back then the US was great and beautiful and the people were great too. What's funny was I had a classmate who thought Malaysia was somewhere in the US, lol.
if you offer me to become an American citizen with a free house package, a free luxury car, of course I will reject it because for me America is not a safe place to live, there are too many murder crimes, gun shootings in schools and public places, your life is not safe. imagine a case of murder, the offender is only imprisoned unless they have killed many people before being sentenced to death, if in malaysia owning 2 pistols is sentenced to death, if 1 case of murder, the offender is still sentenced to death
there is too many illegals immigrant in USA now. too many of them & less jobs. That's why small business can't survive now because of looting. They do drugs in most public places like it's nothing.
Wow, you're doing good, Ben. That lady in black with glasses was quite on point. You want my comment. Here it is. I think the Brits used to be such a snob, while the Aussies quite eccentric, the Kiwis quite reasonable. The lay Americans in my personal experience were down to earth straight to the point, talked from their hearts and easy to get along with. They're very nice compassionate people that makes them sometimes vulnerable to the people at the top. I speak in regard to the people I connected to in Boston, Baytown NY, Kenner, Dallas, Castro and Seattle. Other than those, I have no idea. Keep it up, Ben.👍
I don't think america is safe ...wanted to holiday there but watching all those racist youtube ughhh really really scary....people aren't really nice and a bit cuckoo....I'm not saying all but mostly...jangan mara ya.. just my own perspective from what I see on utube
I recognized American,British,Australia, tgry hv a different accent n the way they dress,You interviwed only youngster, obviously they like fashion, music but try the Adults, they hv a different perspective, the man from Borneo ,hes quite honest of his impression of Americans as racist.Watching U tube dont show the real Americans n movies, they are acting..
Yea sadly none of the older Malaysians would give me the time of day, they weren’t interested at all. I will be trying again in a different location with more locals and I think it’ll be easier.
These were great interviews, Ben. It's always interesting to hear what people around the world think about us Americans. Your interviewees know a lot more about America than the average American would know about Malaysia. KL is one of my favorite cities and I go there often. I'm looking forward to making some videos of my own when I am there again...not interviews but just showing and talking about the things I love about KL and Malaysia. Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Yo I was there, saw you. Good lookin out man, respect the hustle. What I think about about the US, first thing first, the Yankees son, clinched for post season, Trump’s a joke but he’s entertaining, I think he’s in it for his personal agenda, not so much for the country hence the division. I wish I can be in New York right now because I feel Yankees gon make it to the World Series this year.
They love to praise angnoh. I could go out now in Malaysia too and make video and bring a why t man with me and all Malaysians would love to praise him and say all good things.
the malay girl who want to go to new york because the environment there look so pretty gonna have a shock when she arrived there. New york the sanctuary city.
Yes, i haven't travel everywhere but nicely i been watching one us RU-vidrs said southeast are more modern the they, like train, walk side, street anything
Ben that was a good interview. For the next interview, you can ask how the British colonization influence Malaysian's culture and country in general? It can be a sensitive issue.
Unfortunately majority of Malaysian younger generations did not know much about US (in general). I've been to US quite a few times both for business and leisure since 90s and latest being 2018, I would say if you follow a group tour there it should be fine but if you travel there alone, either male or female, better not nowadays. The insecurity is high for real. American people (citizens, not millions of illegal immigrants) are generally similar to majority of the world, they're generally nice people but suffering, especially those in the low to middle income categories due to high costs of living the last few years particularly. Guns, drugs and poverty are main issues in the US nowadays and the direction of the entire country is controlled by those top 1% elites and oligarchs, heck even politicians are controlled by these groups which created the sufferings of majority of the low to middle income groups. US is at the stage where the next 3 to 5 years will be critical economically, possibly sooner if the top 1% guys do not want to refocus back to its domestic economy improvements. Do more research Malaysians, general Americans are nice people, it's the top guys that are giving the world headaches by creating tons of issues, politically, militarily and sanctions.
You'd be surprised to know that most Americans don't really care what their govt do to the world to keep them continuing to live the American Dream. It's like selective amnesia. How else do you get someone like don T to be in power? You'd be wrong to think that their national policies shaped by their national security agenda is something new. It has always govern their foreign, economic. military and trade policies all along. The elected leaders have to conform to these well established doctrine no matter which party they belong to.
America, a rich country, very diversified, strong economy and military, high standard of education, etc. As for Trump, he's smart, rich and crazy at the same time.
@@benfishermin It’s remarkable how profoundly American culture and its portrayal in the media have influenced Malaysians’ perception of modernity. At the same time, many Malaysians remain highly skeptical and critical of American foreign policy. Stay safe Ben.
Malaysians are great, excellent job Ben! Wow you're bringing out the best of your interviewees, not everyone has that talent. Looking forward to more street interviews.
Most if not all interviewed were youngsters not slightly older or matured Malaysian say 40 above. You’ll probably get a much more diverse answer other than I like Bruno Mars or Kathy Perry and the likes. Also, they’ll probably have a different perspective (from older generations) and a better grasp of whats going on around the world and especially Americas roles politically and economically. Nevertheless, good 1st effort. More please.
They're being nice. That's engrained in our culture. We don't hurt strangers feelings. If they were to be honest i think most of the americans can't handle it.
I lived in California for 10 years in the 90s, and I also frequent to Europe for more than 15 years, yes Americans are friendlier in America than Europeans in general. But I've met an asshole American in KL.. 😆. Ben, in the 60s, 70s and the 80s, most Malaysians grew up with American TV shows because back then, most TV content were imported..
America is a nice place to visit, study but not to settle and raise a family, in my opinion. Love spring and autumn but not summer and winter. Beautiful landscapes and astounding nature. Americans can be friendly, or racist and anti Islam. Would I go back? No. Started watching your videos because you remind me of little Ben I used to care for while working partime at a day care center in Flagstaff. He would be about your age now.
I have American Facebook friends since 2009 from all over, I say from half out of 50 states each. I say they are all friendly and I still keep in touch with several of them especially from Ohio and Maine.
I'm liking these street interviews Ben, lots of topics you can dive into with this format. I don't know if its a RU-vid thing, but @ 20:58 you point to where a card is to appear re: your previous video, but that was already shown from @ 20:20 to 20:28
i used to work with Americans and i love it, i like the working culture, its wayyyyy different with Asian working culture. As for me Americans who stay in Malaysia is a nice & friendly people, but i still feel worried with islamophobic & racism towards SEA people if i have a chance to visit US one day 😅
Yea I think it becomes harder to tell things apart like Canadian vs American. And then some others like Scottish, Irish, those might be more difficult for a lot of people
@@npstellait can be hard to tell for me at first as we say most things exactly the same way, but after a minute or two of talking I’ll usually pick up on something only Canadians say, like they will end a sentence with "eh?" (Pronounced like "ay") which is a dead giveaway 😀
Im impressed with the young americans generation. They are finding the truth with a passion. Plus- i love new york. The industrial architecture and design is what i like the most.
Wow Ben your english accent is really good even though I'm malaysian but i can tell it's good because I've watched some of british film so yours is so spot on
As someone who listen to 70s music. The 70s produce some good music from BTO, Guess Who, Lynard Skynard, Bread, Grandfunk Railroad, Eagles, Commodores, Chicago, Rare Earth, CCR, Osmonds, Jackson 5, Earl Klug, George Benson, Grover Washington, Dave Koz, etc?
Malaysian generally see America as a great country..Politic wise Malaysian don’t really follow of what’s happening in America besides Donald Trump and America Israel ties and Palestine
I want to visit America in Philadelphia Kensington street. Insane ! Real Zombie land. Im joke 🤣!! I love your Channel actually.tq welcome Malaysia Mr Ben.
The people you interviewed all seem relatively young - below 25 I guess. Next time please try to include older, more matured people especially those who have travelled or studied in western countries. They would have more first hand experience and knowledge of Americans and westerners in general - rather than from social media and movies like these young people here.
I actually asked just as many older Malaysians but they were simply not interested. Either they seemed busy, had kids, or simply had no interest in participating. I was also at a busy intersection in Bukit Bintang so I believe I could get a better response in some more local areas.
@@benfishermin Oh ok. Unfortunately that location is not where Malaysian corporate and academic guys hang around. Perhaps you could go to one of university campuses, say University of Malaya situated just outside KL, to interview lecturers and students there? Or at one of the social clubs - Selangor Club, Royal Lake Club, RSGC?
@@benfishermin I mentioned Malaysian corporate and academic guys in the earlier comment because they are the ones usually who have travelled or studied in western countries and would have first hand experience of westerners including Americans.
They are way too young and they got no life experience and they know nothing about living in the west and are so easily influenced. The older Malaysian people were right, they want nothing to do with this craze fool interviewer!
As a Malay US born citizen, i see that US is still the best where it has the best toys, such as scale trains,rc ship model and rc jet plane. Its the coolest stuff needed for me....
@@marsyaabdulghani1690 training is needed when it come to jet engine, unless you have those "ilmu dapat secara jatuh ke riba, maka bolehlah macam tu....
Good interviews - please do it with older Msians....US is a tough place and people in NY are not simple. Money is like the issue. But I did people living in beautiful suburbs. But they are not friendly.
Is almost too painful to watch. The questions are good and straightforward but the quality from the interviewees responses are in my opinion were almost unbearable to listen too.. I'm cringing 😅
Haha, to be fair it would probably be far worse asking Americans about their Impression of Malaysia, they’d simply have no idea what to say or any ideas about it whatsoever 😂
I think Americans likes any other people are okay, but the actual problem is their foreign policy towards other countries, they're treating any other countries as pushovers. I wouldn't say I like that
I've pretty much anticipated what other Malaysian are going to say about America Ben. It might be interesting for you to hear but If you ask me, I'd just prefer you to just walk and talk.
The United States is as diverse as Malaysia is or maybe even more. You cant really stereotype them. You’ll be suprised with the diversity if you travel by road the whole length and breadth of the country.
It was very interesting video for me because each interviewee has each English accent. So hard to listen ….I bought a ticket from Japan to KL for my holiday. I must keep listening to your interview series.
I get it why getting input from malaysians is kind of difficult, i think they are just being polite or sometimes get nervous due to language barrier but i assure you most of them are keyboard warriors 😂
Well no doubt that most of new knowledge and tech are from America,.and they shape the direction of tech. The people are divided into two sides, the good thing is the good people are bigger percentage than the other side. While the people are good, this doesn't apply to the government. The use of military power in order to control the economy, unreasonable sanction, boycoot, misuse of veto power, supporting the genocide, this give the bad name to America. In summary, the American people are ok, but not their government
I could said when I'm watching a youtuber introduce us, he said usually a lot drinker and drugged pee on the train. People are wild, always protest something, pickpocket...
i don't think average american height is any taller than malaysia, some in the west yeah, but not america. i'm around his height but seriously i saw lots of people taller than me.
@@benfishermin Also love all the American actors who portrayed such memorable Marvel characters like Thor, Spiderman, Vision, Doctor Strange, Wong, Loki, Mantis and Nebula. Korg
