Agreed. Ever since I have read the cited article I was surprised that no one (at least as far as I am aware of) has come forward about one major restriction of the field pictures shown there. They are only true for one single plain: The cross section rectangular to the longitudinal axis of the string. All other plaines would show a very different picture. The reason for that is ferromagnetic material has a far better permeance (magnetic conductivity) than air and pickups eploit excactly this feature to work as convincingly as they do. I have now translated my pickup explanation video into English ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cWaUm_Z8iNo.html in case anyone is interested

Very well explained and well pitched, hard balance between being informative and keeping people interested. I do electromagnetic FEA modelling at my work and have toyed with the idea of seeing if I could model this phenomena, will post any results if I ever do. Not sure if could ever simulate and predict a guitars 'tone' though, way too many variables but it would be an interesting concept to try. Anyway big thumbs up on the physics content 👍

Awesome video man, even though you had to gloss over a few of the more in-depth topics, you elegantly explained a rather complex process without getting too fluffy or vague. For instance, you could've mentioned Lenz's Law, but that could possibly have been to the detriment of the viewer because it'd take away from the focus of the video. Big like

Thank you. Question: How does the voltage created in the coil travel to the output wires?
@CarsInDimension
@CarsInDimension 2 года назад
The coil ends are soldered to lead wires, which connect to the volume and tone controls, which in turn are connected to the output jack.

Dont want to be that guy, but I would argue that magnetism in its core is still not fullly understood. The microscopic model of (quantum) spins only go as far as giving the right mathematical description (seems to be right at least) but nothing is actually spinning. As far as I know no one really knows why a spin has a magnetic moment, its just that you say well these ARE the magnetic moments and they make up magnetism, boom, voila! But going any further than this no one really knows whats going on.
@SithuAye
@SithuAye 6 лет назад
The same could be said for any quantum phenomena as the mathematical descriptions and theory came after trying to reconcile experimental results against classical physics. The same for fundamental constants as well; those just 'are' and we don't have an explanation as to why they take their values. You could argue that we don't fully understand anything. What I did say is that the physics was well understood, we have a theory that has predictive power and has real-world practical application. If you get too reductive you begin to not be able to see the forest from the trees.
