Your videos are very informative. I have to visit my dentist tomorrow. I have snap in over dentures. The upper has blue snaps but still feels too tight. The upper hugs my gum too tightly. The bottom denture has two white caps and I can't get one side to snap in. It sounds like I've snapped in both sides but when I begin chewing the bottom denture comes completely loose.

Thank you for your kind words. Hope all goes well tomorrow, it sounds like it should be an easy fix. Adjustment on top and maybe new inserts and a bite adjustment on the bottom. Let me know how it goes and if I was close in my assessment.

Thanks very much for the help. I have upper and lower dentures and the bottom plate has two implants on it, that's all I could afford, period. Mostly my retainer clips only last 4 to 6 months and so I put Poligrip on both upper and lower. My dentist who installed my dentures top & bottom charges my $50 to change out the retainers and he just put the Black ones in, I didn't know anything about this or I would have ask for the stronger. Regardless, by 4 months it's as if I didn't have implants at all, what's the point? $6,000 up in smoke and I got NADA. Question, can I change these retainers myself?
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 2 года назад
Hi, the black inserts are usually the zero retention (at least for Locator brand inserts) inserts. Has your dentist ever used the blue inserts in your denture? Just swapping out the inserts is fairly simple once you have the inserts. Why are yours wearing out so quickly? Are you biting the denture into place? Are the two implants not parallel to each other?

I recently replaced my snaps myself because mine were worn and the dentist I went through the first time I had them replaced and now wanted too much to replace them again and I had to supply the snaps myself. I want to replace the metal caps now, do I need the black insert that goes into the metal?
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 2 года назад
The black inserts usually come with the new metal part of the snap. The metal part needs to be seated and secured into the overdenture with acrylic. I recommend you have a dentist do that since if too much acrylic is used, you can lock the overdenture into your mouth. Thank you for the question and thank you very much for watching.

My rings keep getting crushed. I've gone through multiple sets on my bottom denture and when I look at the rings I can see that the edges are caved in and they won't snap in. I'm using the medium pink rings. I have the blue ones on top but haven't had any trouble with them. Thanks for your great video!

You're welcome! Make sure you insert your overdenture and seat it with your fingers. Don't bite it into place, that can push on the rings at an angle and cause them to wear quicker. Thank you very much for watching!

When the caps keep getting crushed this usually means the implant and abutment are at to much of an angle.They should be as vertical and parallel to the other implants as much as possible to allow the denture to snap in without any interference

It's easy to find the tool and the inserts online. Replacing the snaps is simple. It's good that he gets his remaining teeth cleaned a twice a year. His dentist should check his denture at each visit to make sure it still fits properly. Thank you very much for watching.

Thank you for the video. I have a permanently screwed in upper denture (on 6 implants). It is very strong but i cannot get all the food out from behind it no matter what i do so the food decomposes in my mouth and causes extreme irritation and even gum damage so i want to switch to a snap on denture. Will i be able to use the denture i have and have it adjusted to work as a snap on? It is both a great denture and strong but was expensive so i would like to use it for the snap on if possible.
@VeryNiceSmileDental

You're welcome and thank you for the question. Without seeing your dental bridge, I'd most likely tell you that it won't be able to be converted into a snap on denture. You would most likely need to have a new snap in denture made, along with new snap in posts installed onto your implants. It would be extremely rare that it could be retrofit. I'd recommend you talk to your dentist and tell them what is bothering you. They may be able to reshape the underside of your upper bridge so that food doesn't get stuck underneath it. The underside of the bridge that touches your gum should be convex and not wrap around your jawbone at all. What material is the bridge made out of?
@avipow
@avipow 2 года назад
@@VeryNiceSmileDental I believe it was titanium? Does that make sense? it was very expensive and i would love to reuse it. Is there no specialty business that could retrofit this- or would it not be worth it both in cost and structural strength? Oh well. Worth a try. Thanks for the help. It is a great service you provide.
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 2 года назад
Hi Billy, so it sounds like your bridge has a titanium bar, what is the pink gums and the teeth made out of? If it's made out of denture acrylic and acrylic denture teeth, then it's easier to work with. It "might" be able to be retrofitted, but there are usually issues that prevent it. It may be easier to start from scratch. It's like renovating a house, if the foundation needs to be completely redone, it's easier/less expensive to start over rather than try to retrofit. Some dental materials (porcelains in particular) cannot be refired in the porcelain oven once they've been in the mouth for any length of time. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if I need to explain it better.

I'm researching Snap-in as an option for my dad. How long can you go between maintenance visits? What does maintenance consist of? Do you eventually need to replace the dentures themselves and what is the cause for replacement dentures? Can that be avoided or extended?

Hi, I made a video that discusses maintenance. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W24FEC7_oBU.html The most common wear item is the plastic snap. The denture itself will wear and the gums underneath it will shrink.

Will 2 regular size well placed implants in the bottom of my jaw work or will they rock back and forth when I eat? Or can this be corrected by stronger snaps? Also will stronger pound snaps wear out the implants placed in the jaw and ruin them in time? Is this stuff common? My Dentist told me the other day that having two implants on bottom in his many years works perfectly fine. ? Yet others on here say they will rock back and forth.
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Год назад
Hi, it depends on your situation, but I've done many lower overdentures on 2 implants and they work well. Overdentures that rock usually need a reline and/or the posts are tall above the gumline.

The video was extremely helpful. I have a snap-in implant full top denture. When my dentist placed the next level of rings in my denture to snap-in more securely, it was really tight and I had a hard time removing them. Could this cause an issue with the implanted post? I had to go back to the black instead of the pink rings which I feel more comfortable with. I know I have to go to the next level to ensure they stay securely in place, but I don't like the pulling I have to do to remove them.Any advertise would be appreciated. 👍👍👍

Hi, if you have Locator brand snaps, ask your dentist to use the blue ones. Pink is medium strength, blue is light strength. I have a couple of patients who stayed with the black rings for a while, then I replaced only one or two with blue and left the others black.

My pink snaps seem to be wearing out or not holding up very well on my upper denture. Sometimes my teeth even want to fall out with a simple sneeze. I seem to have to go in once every 3 months to get new ones put in. Is this normal? They are parallel to each other and I have a total of six in the upper denture. My lower denture doesn't seem to have a big problem and only has three. The dentist is using the pink snaps. Finally, is it possible for me to put my own snaps in? Thank you for your very educational video. I do appreciate it.

This video was extremely helpful, thank you Dr. Rich. After having my permanent implants on my bottom teeth for 18 months, I still have to go once a month to get my bottom implants realigned. Is that normal after so many months? Also, I usually wear the green rings, but a few weeks ago they were out of them and put in clear. He said it won't make much of a difference. I feel a big difference. It is very difficult to snap on. I am going back Friday and hopefully the green rings will be in stock. The dental assistant then said he would put in the orange color rings and they are the same size. If they were the same size why didn't the assistant put it in from the beginning? Now the dentist came in took x-rays and said he would like to take my two screws out and add 4 screws all together and charge me another 15 grand. . I cannot afford another large payment. I paid 14 grand the for the ones I have now. Where is the guarantee that the second time is going to work, if now he is telling me I should try another type of implant? I have said no to the second surgery and to make this one work. I am hoping just getting the right fit with the rings will be a big help and to keep realigning until my jawbone has stopped changing. What is your opinion? Thank you again for explaining everything so thoroughly Dr. Rich.

Without seeing you in person it's hard for me to say what is going on with your overdenture. Some possible issues are, it needs a reline, the snap posts may be worn, the posts may be at an angle to each other, or the posts may stick up out of your gums too high. I

What is the normal cost for the snaps? I have had more problems with mine just wearing out just had them replaced again and they really started coming loose after about three weeks but I put up with it now I go back again and this time was charged $60 for the two snaps. What would be causing them to stop holding and wearing out? I just don’t get it. My dentist just doesn’t get it but I don’t like paying $60. The first time I had the new dentures put in my mouth was last October and I know I’ve been back 10 times for adjustments and probably had the snaps replaced four or five times I was not charged because every time he would put in snaps within a week my bottom denture was loose again. I cannot afford this $60 thing and I can already tell even after a week they’re looser than they were when he first put them in. After three months they did a cleaning which they said I needed that was $175 for the cleaning and putting in the snacks so is that appropriate? I’m just really stressed with all of this.
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Год назад
Hi, sorry to hear about all the issues you are having with your snaps. So you have 2 implants on the bottom with a snap in denture correct? They shouldn't need to be replaced that frequently. First thing I would check would be to make sure that the denture sits on your gums, not on the implant posts. If it is sitting on the implant posts, it will wear out the snaps quickly. I would also check to make sure the posts are parallel to each other. If there is a large angle between them it will cause the snaps to wear quickly. Also make sure that when you put the denture in, you press down on the snaps with your fingers, don't bite it into place. Biting it into place can make it go in at an angle which can lead to more wear. I made a video that discusses some of the maintenance issues, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W24FEC7_oBU.html I hope this helps, let me know if you have an questions.

I have 4 implants on top and 4 on the bottom I currently have all blue in which is the lightest retention. Was curious about the red "extended range" snaps, would they hold better if one side was not as secure as the other? I am also curious to move to medium retention which is pink I believe but am nervous I won't be able to get them off. When my dentist was putting them in for the first time he used green I think? And he could not get them out he had to bang them out with a small slide hammer. Are green maximum extended range?

Hi, yes the greens are the strongest extended range snaps. Extended range are used when the implant posts aren't parallel to each other. A viewer told me about a simple technique to remove a snap in denture, you might find it helpful, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YFY9HJqHQQA.html

If I understand use the extended range if the implants are not straight and one of angled differently? You're welcome. Yes the extended range will work better for that type of situation. I've sent people home with the black inserts occasionally if they have difficulty removing the snap in denture. I just got new dentures second ones and have two implants this time. I also went to a specialist for my dentures because was not happy with the ones I got at the beginning. They were too small and made me look so much older. Now I have gone a year waiting on new dentures because of implants and healing time. Got them this week and time I got home the bottom denture popped out of the gum so had to make another trip to the dentist plus cannot not chew even soft things. He changed the ring looking thing and seemed tighter but was not home an hour before it popped out again and will not stay in. The teeth look good but am concerned also about the chewing part. He said my other dentures were so worn that my brain has to train to eat again. He is a specialist with great reviews and says everything will be fine but why would the bottom denture keep popping out? I did not have implants with my first dentures and never had an issue keeping them in. They were small teeth and did not show when smiling hardly at all. I wanted to look better for one thing and waited forever to get the second ones could not afford a mistake. These dentures are larger and wider. He said the bite is fine but they hit even when biting a banana. I know my old dentures, the teeth, were flat and just worn down. How long will it take me to get use to these dentures. I had no trouble chewing with the first ones just sore from having my teeth removed. Also why would the bottom denture not stay in. The implants healed for 4 months and are fine as far as I can tell. This dentist has a 5 star rating and was recommended highly. I am upset first of all having to make so may trips. He uses a lab in another state. I live in SC. He does not like the labs inn Columbia, SC. Thanks for any help
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Год назад
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. Based on what you have told me, the first thing I would do would be to remove the snaps from the denture and make sure the denture sits in your mouth without rocking. A snap in denture is technically an "implant retained overdenture". That means the gums need to support the denture without it rocking from side to side or front to back. The snaps on the two implants then keep it from moving or falling out. To me it sounds like the denture is hanging up on one of the implants. Then when you bite on it, bite pressure tries to seat the denture fully , which dislodges the snap.
@Trishagram
@Trishagram Год назад
I actually just read this. Did not see you answered. So sorry. Well same issue. What do you mean remove the snaps? Do you mean the rings? Yes, it rocks, you are correct. I have put this off for 3 months because of so many trips. I had dentures before these but looked awful. The best part was they stayed in really good. My top denture now wants to come out if I am not careful. It does not cling to the top of my mouth like my inexpensive dentures. After reading your comment do you think the short implant is a problem? That is the one does not stay clicked in and caused the rocking when I eat. It is very depressing. I have the pink rings. They are tight when I leave but in a short period they loosen. This is causing my gums to be sore. This is not good.

My surgeon’s going to charge me an extra $3,300 to do the ones I want but I can’t understand how to explain to places that I just need the part with the teeth no hardware. I’ve used the term 4 on 1 and every other term I’ve heard. My dentist who ordered my temporary set said I wouldn’t need a temp and a permanent set. Are temporary dentures less sharp because I even though I’ve learned how to eat I can’t chew my food. I can pretty much only mash it up. If anyone has advice please let me know. The term to use is "all on 4" to talk about a non-removable set of teeth on dental implants. In my area cost is around $30k per arch. You need to decide what type of teeth you want first before you have implants placed.

I went into the process planning on getting the snap on kind with 4 implants in the top & bottom but while healing I asked oral surgeon about switching to the kind he screws on instead. He said he could do that with an additional charge of $3,300. I’ve already spent over $20k so I asked the doctor who made my dentures what it would cost to get the other ones made and they said $16k…nothing but the dentures. I’ve been trying to figure out why it would cost so much but I’m having trouble getting an answer. I’m wearing my 1st set which they said would fixed to snap on but they’re not sharp enough to chew my food. I saw a couple other doctors before & each said I’d get a temp pair & once healed I’d get my permanent set…but was told by my dentist 2 sets weren’t necessary. Between me & my Ins we’ve paid about $3,700 for this set. I’ve got to make a decision soon because I’m scheduled for surgery in about 5wks and my surgeon needs to know which I want. His fee is to uncover the implants attaching everything I need for either kind, if I stay with the snap on there’s no additional charge. Thank you again.

You can try using some denture adhesive until you get the snaps replaced.

I have looked online to see if I could find a zest locator snaps which I could put in myself. I noticed that you had said in one of your comments that it is possible to do so. However, I am finding that they are talking about millimeters and different sizes. I have no idea how many millimeters mine might be. How do I find that out? My dentist simply tells me I cannot do it myself. And then he changes the subject.

Hi, replacing the snap themselves is easy to do but that may not fix the situation. How old is the upper snap in denture? In some situations, I find that the denture needs a reline or the snap housings need to be reseated into the denture acrylic. Locator style snaps that fit in metal housings are usually all the same size. Be aware that there are other brands of snaps that look similar but are not compatible with Locator posts. The super snaps (that's the brand name) I show in the video will fit onto the Locator implant posts and don't use a metal housing. I've found them to last longer than locator brand snaps. The super snaps need to be embedded into the denture acrylic.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental these snaps are only about 3 years old.

Have your dentist take a look at your upper denture, it may need a reline. The snaps just hold the denture in place. If the denture is resting on the snaps instead of on the gums you will wear out the snaps very quickly.

@@VeryNiceSmileDental thank you. I do believe they are not resting on the gums.
@VeryNiceSmileDental

That is probably the reason. Relining and reseating the snaps in the denture should fix the issue.

Hi, when you go to snap the denture in, make sure you are pressing down over top of the snaps. If that doesn't work, see your dentist. I made a video that talks about other issues you may have with a snap in denture, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W24FEC7_oBU.html

How can I glue the metal cup back into my lower denture?
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 10 месяцев назад
Hi, the metal cup is secured to the denture with acrylic. See your dentist to have it (or a new one) re-embedded with acrylic.

I believe I should be able to get and replace these pieces myself. My dentist is a 4-hour drive away and I have no doubt that I am capable of making the changes. Can you give me information on where these pieces and the tool are avaliable?
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental 2 года назад
Yes, replacing the inserts is very easy. I have a patient who moved to Florida who had an earlier version of snaps. I gave her a tool and would send her replacement inserts when she needed them. That being said, there will come a point in time where replacing the inserts doesn't solve the problem and you need to have a dentist look at your overdenture. Thank you very much for the question and thank you for watching!

I had short roots and my teeth started falling out at 17 and all my he front stranded coming loose after. I had know it was a possibility but I had to have all teeth pulled due to breakage and just a whole nonstop mess. So I got the snap in dentures. And I was never told I’d have to replace the plastic pieces and of course insurance won’t cover and I don’t have to money to waste so I’ve left it how if it because it’s my bottoms but it’d be worth the money to spend on supplies if I could but everything also. So I’ve asked if we can removed the implant in my Louth to clean occasionally not super often but they said no but I knowwwww food gets down there. I have all my measurements to everything. I’d feel mush cleaner to be able to w sh out with a water pick once in a while. .

Hi, definitely clean around the implant posts in your mouth. Usually the posts are only removed if they need to be replaced (the snap in post, not the implant itself). When you need new snaps, visit your dentist. They will check to see if the denture part needs to be relined. Thank you very much for watching.

You should be able to just pull it up. If you are having trouble, your dentist may be able to replace the snap with a weaker one. Thank you very much for watching.

I just had my upper snap on denture placed. The first bite of a soft sandwich did not feel right. I began to chew right side then the left side popped out. I reinserted denture only to find I could not chew right. It felt too high, could not chew side to side ( (grind) without the denture popping out. I felt like filing down the denture teeth to allow for better occlusion. Also food kept getting under the denture. There is a small space between denture and palate. How can he fix this.
@VeryNiceSmileDental
@VeryNiceSmileDental Год назад
Hi, here are a few things I would check. First I would make sure that the denture is seating into position correctly. If the denture is in position and engaging the snaps but it still feels off, I would remove the snaps and make sure the denture fits properly in position without the snaps, sometimes when fitting the snaps you get a bit of denture acrylic in the wrong spot and the denture doesn't fit properly. If the denture fits in properly, then the bite may need to be adjusted. Sometimes depending on where the implants are in relation to the denture, some snaps may need to be stronger than others to help it stay in place. When you see your dentist, bring some bread or other type of food with you so you can chew something while your in the dental chair to see how the denture feels and works. Let me know how it goes.
