Everyone's talking about the great CGI for the vending machine, but I think the actor playing the part of Guy Buying A Snack did an incredible job too. He looks exactly like a person who's buying something out of a vending machine. He killed this role and he deserves recognition.

About 10-15 years ago we had a machine like this at school, somehow someone figured out that if they disconnected the machine from the wall at just the right time, it wouldn't detect the product being dispensed, and just returned the money, needless to say it wasn't long before the machine got disconnected entirely for not making money

I love the change of tone in the narrator's voice when the vending machine gets disected. Goes from a casual how's it made dialogue, to hacking forbidden knowledge like he's in a spy movie.

That vending machine animation was qualified to be captioned Vending machine lore and actually be funny and accurate.

In 1981 I made a quarter mold in auto shop with a friend. We used pipe with an inside diameter equal to a quarter. We cut off the thickness of a quarter then tack welded it onto a base plate. Using tire lead we melted these in to the mold and had quarters. We used these for the coke machine in the locker room and for video games in town. Arcade video games were everywhere back then. Before our quarter forging, we would snap the plate off of he coin return slot. A penny could be pressed upwards then snapped to go up and come back down, triggering the micro switch that unlocked the game. My buddy got busted in a pool hall doing this. I worked with a guy whose father had games all over the valley. He had keys to the machines. We collected quarters and fixed machines. Mostly I played for free. I usually earned a roll or two of quarters for tagging along. The summer I turned 18, my parents went on a camping road trip. I brought in a bunch of machines and had kegerator parties 2-3 nights a week. Just about every night was a small party of friends. We drank beer and played video games. We blasted a stereo through someone’s bass amplifier. Yah, the sound quality wasn’t great, but it was loud. :-)

This is the best animation I've ever seen

As kids we taped 20 cent coins on a railroad track and when the train drove over it they were the same size as a 2 dollar (swiss francs) coin. This worked with older vending machines on train stations which only checked the size not the thickness.

Imagine going into animation thinking you're gonna be putting together a sequence of Tony Stark suiting up but instead you're David Finchering the shit out of a vending machine.

In the 80's and early 90's, the 2p and 10p coins in the UK were a very similar size (the 2p minutely smaller) we used to wrap the 2p coins in thick metal foil, and use them to play in the arcades and one arm bandits. I bet the technology is much better these days.
