I did things opposite a lot of author moms. I put my writing aside for 20+ years while I fully focused on raising my family. I’m just coming back to it with my youngest being 11ys now. The world has changed a lot from when I was writing last and I often feel pretty lonely with having done things the way I did. I guess it is never too late and eventually we all find our way, right? ❤😅

That’s right, JH! It is NEVER too late! And you’re definitely not alone ❤️

I have honestly been thinking about putting writing aside / slowing down quite a bit for a season as well, and so that's actually encouraging to hear that you're coming back to it-it's absolutely never too late!! Sorry it's feeling lonely, but I hope that you find your tribe and I think the more you get back into writing, the more it will be like no time has passed at all!

Love this! I recently started my channel to talk about being a mom and writing a book bc it is toughhhhh lolol I have 2 boys (almost 3 and almost 1) and for me, it was easier the second time around in every capacity but in terms of finding the time and energy to write it’s taught me about intentionality and also asking for help. I was soo sad for a few weeks crying constantly bc I felt like I was trying to have a job (writing) but I didn’t have the time for it and I expressed this to my partner and then we found a few hours in the week that I could work and it was life changing!!! So intentionality and asking for help have been everything for me. Hope this helps someone else - thank you ladies for your honesty and banter! So fun ♥️♥️

Yay so glad you liked it! And that’s SO encouraging to hear it was easier the second time around, that makes me much less anxious about trying for a second baby in the future. So glad you’ve found good systems and are making it work, and your channel sounds awesome!

Definite part 2 please! It's amazing how much I have in common with both of you: I also started with songwriting and never really thought of writing as an actual career. I still utilise music and songwriting in my novel projects. I am an enneagram 4 who relates to the goal-driven, result-oriented 3 (Bethany) and also the analysis-driven, research-oriented 5 (Brittany) - those are my wings, after all. I've co-parented my 4 year old nephew since birth and I still remember those 6 month / 14 month phases. Flexibility is your superpower. Can't wait for Brittany's unpublished serial writer's course. Took her Serial Bootcamp and it was AWESOME! 10/10 recommend; it's so good. I really am grateful for all the content Bethany and Brittany put out on their channels. When I'm published, I hope I can inspire upcoming writers like you've inspired me :-) Blessings XOXO

Aww yay thanks Avi! Love hearing that we have so much in common (and also that you incorporate music into your books, so fun!) Gosh I both love this stage and at the same time can't wait for when he's older, but I know it'll go by quick lol... I agree, her courses are all amazing, so excited for that to come out soon, and thank you so much for all the encouragement!

The way I clicked so fast when I saw writer mama. I'm unpublished but wanting to make a more serious go of my writing these days. My kiddos older than yours (my oldest just turned 7 and my youngest is 4) and it is STILL a challenge. Each age is a new challenge. But I feel like especially in that first year each time you got a routine or flow down it would change because babies change SO MUCH in that first year. Being a mom is just learning how to readjust on your feet. Rolling with the punches lol. I loved this episode and selfishly hope for more mom writer episodes lol. Thanks for sharing all those resources too!

Ember is 8 and she is learning editing and revising in school. Sometimes I can get her involved. In the serial I am trying to write we talk about Disney Princesses and once that came to mind is if they ALL can communicate with animals. Ember will draw some things and she has drawn cloths for the characters and stuff. She's also just sat in here with me and the dog and played Minecraft. She is VERY independent and I've set aside one day a month for her and I to do something BIG. Weather it's food and an arcade and something to drink later, or the bookstore, or even for her to buy something where I work. The WHOLE day it's her and me.

Yay thanks Katie! So happy you liked it, and I hope we get to do a part 2 - I was thinking it'd be fun to see what we learn after like 6 more months or so, and see if we discover new lessons/habits during that time to share (but maybe sooner too haha!) It's always so fascinating to hear how another mama writer handles things, and honestly encouraging to hear I'm not the only one who struggles sometimes - you're definitely not alone! I feel like that motivation / cloud situation comes and goes for me lol, so we should both give ourselves grace if it's a little random-the novels will still happen even if it's slower haha! :)

I'm not a mom but I found this very interesting all the same. Some tips you shared can be applied for me who suffers from chronic illnesses and it was a great reminder. Thank you ❤️ One of the last tips at the end about finding writer friends always hits me hard. I find it so difficult. Everytime I think I've found one they ghost me once I've helped them with something, I never get anything in return. :( I only have one writing friend and she's super busy so I can only talk to her about writing every once in a while.

I have WAY too many books planned to not write until my son is older, and I need it for my own sanity. My 17m/o son won't let me sit down at all during the day so I got a wall-mounted desk just big enough for my laptop and a notebook and put it at standing-desk height right in the middle of my son's play area. He can't reach it or see my computer screen close-up. But I grew up in a very loud, crazy, hectic household and writing had to be done amidst the chaos anyways so I can do it while my son is climbing all over my legs and feet.

I started writing my first novel when my daughter was about a year old, in 2018. Well... I started planning it then. I was only in the planning phase of it until Nov. 2020 when I started actually writing it. By that time I was also working full time at my day job. It took me another 18 months from starting the writing to finish the first draft - at nights after my daughter went to bed, in weekends where I could (more so during 2020 & 2021 NaNoWriMo's). I finished the draft end of June last year (2022), with 147K words. So if you have a child, if you have a day job - and especially if you have both - just write when you can, persevere, and you will get to the finish line!
@BethanyAtazadeh
@BethanyAtazadeh Год назад
That's amazing that you started writing during such an intense stage, you're amazing! I completely agree, as parents we just gotta fit it in when we can and not stress about deadlines or what other people are doing!

Will you guys be my writer friends? Just kidding...well kinda lol. I'm a mom of three and even though my kids are older, I relate to you both in a lot of ways. When I was little, I was always singing and writing poems and I was convinced that I would be a famous singer when I grew up, but I guess not. Anyway, I never even thought about becoming a full-time writer until I read The Hunger Games series back in 2017. It made me FEEL something and I was like, "I want to do that! I want to be a writer". I started writing like crazy, but then life got really hard, and I couldn't write. The last few years have been really difficult to try and write through depression, but the passion for writing is still there. I don't want to give up on my dream and I've been trying to get back into writing, but it's hard to know how to when you've stepped away for a while. I think maybe I'll start by binge-watching all of y'all's videos lol. And hey, if you're ever looking for another writer friend, I volunteer as tribute!
@BethanyAtazadeh
@BethanyAtazadeh Год назад
Haha love it, that's so cool that we have all that in common! And definitely don't give up on your dreams, just because we take needed breaks from creating doesn't mean we can't come back to it!

I just set a goal for myself to finish my first draft by my birthday. Looking at the word count per day, it's unattainable at the pace I've been going at. Even if I write during 2 naps. So I'm going to keep the goal but give myself lots of grace and focus on those "invisible check boxes"
@BethanyAtazadeh
@BethanyAtazadeh Год назад
Love that goal AND the fact that you're giving yourself grace for if you go a little past it - that's what I need to do too! I was thinking about it the other day and it's almost like the mom version of "good / better / best" style goals, where it's "what I'll most likely be able to do / what I hope to get done / the extreme and nearly impossible goals that I'm still aiming for anyway" LOL
