The DJ you mentioned Darrell Osborne had it right. Prepare, Make a play list, learn the Pronunciations of names you have to call out. Say them out loud, meet with the client, and Do your homework.

The first time dj'ing for a big crowd (300 people) was a dj contest. I was so nervous I could hardly get the needle on the record (this was about 13 years ago) because my hand was shaking. I had to get grab my wrist to put the needle down. I calmed myself down with a beer. Not that I really recommend drinking a lot before a gig but it worked :-) And also after the first transition my nerves went away.

I'm more scared of equipment failure or midi problems than a crowd.
