How Do You Remove Paint Transfer and Scuffs? - Chemical Guys

Every car is under the constant threat of paint scuffs. A trip to the grocery store, commute to work, or Sunday afternoon cruise can end with a fender bender, shopping cart attack, or careless door fling. Paint transfer and scuffs may look terrible, but they can be easily fixed with a machine polisher and steady hand.
Before inspecting the damage to assess the proper plan of action it is necessary to wash the vehicle to clear away as much transfer and debris. Hector starts with a clay bar treatment utilizing the Medium Gray Clay with Clay Luber to extract embedded contamination and foreign material.
Using the natural cleaning oils of Butter Wet Wax we move to an alternative option to restore a factory finish. Gently massage the affected area using wax to lift and suspend particles of paint and rubber.
If all else fails, resort to polishing. Micro abrasives diminish a fine layer of clear coat which reveals a showroom quality shine.
The TORQ 15 Dual Action Polisher is the perfect first polisher for any enthusiast detailer or weekend warrior caring for their car. Professionals love the TORQ for its lightweight, balanced, and compact design. Easily fits into tight spots and finishes with professional results. Many enthusiasts detail with confidence when using the combination of V36 Cutting Polish and an Orange Hex-Logic Pad.

Watched my first Chemical Guy's video in a long time. I like the new direction they are going with these videos. Less product hard sell and more informative of the detailing process. I understand some people like to hear more about products but I personally started looking at other videos because as a detail enthusiast, I was interested in learning and gaining perspective, so I was watching longer more informative videos. I'll definitely add these videos back to my rotation of detailing videos to watch.

@k.skyl1n3zz no it doesn’t. Been a pro detailer for years and worked on many cars. You can apply WD40 and use a magic eraser sparingly and after the paint transfer is removed wash the panel to remove the WD40 residue and then clay & polish the panel and your clear coat will be fine. That’s how body shops do it too.

Lacquer thinner or Goof Off/Goo Gone are quicker options then a butter wax to clean it up to a nice shine.

@@lionescobar8291 yes but read the can instructions to see which is safest. Some citrus based degreasers an also remove paint. Look at APEX Detail video for paint transfer options , it gives 6- options

My white car was backed into today by another white car, and it left black smudges exactly like this. Not sure what the heck the black is but hopefully this video helps me take it off. Down my entire driver door and a little on the rear quarter panel, like bro why did you not stop when you felt my csr behind you 😭😭

@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 5 лет назад
Hey Leon, story time. Before I started here at Chemical Guys, I tried that on my 2005 Sierra Single Cab and it totally ruined my hood. Paint thinner is way too strong and is designed to remove paint, so the dangers that is presents to your clear coat simply isn't worth it. Why take the risk when you can buy a combo pad/polish that are made for cars for around only $20? (You don't have to have a machine to spot-polish a car). Don't make the same mistake I made... now, I have to drive around with a ugly hood, which totally ruins the look of my whole truck! Thanks for watching, Leon, and stay tuned for new videos headed your way soon! -CG Henry 🐛
