Thanks Larry. Awesome tip! FYI - Learned the hard way. Goof Off will melt plastic. I attempted to clean a clear dome cover from a security camera (sticky stuff on it), and it literally melted the plastic. So just be careful. Stuff is much stronger than Goo Gone.
Great video Larry. The ease at which you conduct yourself inspires confidence in even the most novice detailers! Now if you will excuse me, I am off to find a wall to hit so I can try this... 🤥 completely kidding of course. My heart goes out to the owner as they must’ve felt sick when it happened. Lucky they have access to your skills for this!
My wife hit something that put a bunch of latex paint on the side of our minivan some time ago and nothing I was doing would remove it - clay bar, hand glaze, polish - that stuff was on there. But, after seeing this, I remembered that isopropyl alcohol will remove latex too, so I took some 91% we had in the house and tried it. Wow! Took all the paint off the van and I can see the original color again! I will have to do some color sanding and touching up, but it already looks a ton better than before!
I used Goof Off on a customers vehicle Audi Q7 for some road tar on the bottom rocker areas. Super strong chemical smell but worked out great! I used some micro fiber towels instead of terry towels because I wasn't planning on polishing the paint. I threw them away afterwards because they turned black. Great information as always Larry, thank you!
Larry I don't know how picky I am being I love your videos but when you put the rag up to the can like you do you are transferring contaminants back into the can this was something that was taught to me in body shop class so you should use a separate cup to pour your cleaning solvent in therefore not contaminating the contents in the can thank you so much God-bless
Thanks man. My car was hit/brushed by a coward who fled the scene after seeing the damage on my vehicle. However I have his info from the dashcam. Only damage was the paint transfer which came off the PPF while washing. Will try goo gone for the black trim once I get my hands on it.
You should have posted this past weekend. Somehow latex paint got splattered on the side of my car while driving in the city. I removed it using a portable foam gun to lube up the surface and then using a silicone pastry dough scraper to peel the latex paint off. Definitely made sure to go only in one direction when using the tool.
I love your videos!!! Larry - will this also work as a paint leveler? I am planning to fill in a chip with puddy and use this to remove the excess puddy?
Larry, thank you so much. My question is how do you make a DA jiggle vs spin? Do you apply more pressure to slow down the oscillations, on a slow 2-3 speed, or is it the movement of back and forth with the DA? Also if it is pressure, would I increase the down pressure to the 10-15 pounds compared to my typical 5-10 #s on paint? Again, terrific show.
It's determined by the pressure, yep! You'll find that light pressure will allow for the most spinning/rotation, and harder pressure will stop it from spinning but the oscillating will continue.
This method definitely works! Discovered a paint transfer and scratches after being parked up and was so pissed! It looked really bad but after viewing the vid and following all steps it fcking worked! Thanks a mil.
I see that you polished after the compounding you put on the "Ammo skin" - what exactly it does - is it like a clear coat and how long it will stay? Also, do you recommend applying a clear coat in such case to protect the underneath paint which would have been removed with goof off?
Thanks, interesting video. Would like to have seen more of that nice looking 914 that drove by towards the end. Shame they were never exported to the UK in RHD. We only get the LHD version or conversions here.
Thanks for the explanation! How much would you charge for something like this? It's cool to see the work, and to know how to accomplish it...but a bit harder to determine how to factor it into a pricing layout for a customer. Thanks!
Very impressive result! Great to see what can be done with the right knowledge. Some might go straight to the body shop for and expensive repaint with no idea that a detailer could restore it back to a fair - good level of present-ability
I had a decent sized paint transfer scrap on a rear wheel arch...easily been there for a year. Grabbed some Goof-Off and it was gone in not even a minute. It was like cleaning a coffee mug ring on the sink with a sponge...wipe and gone.
Not to sound rude, but if you email him, he'll answer your questions. He's gotten back to me within 12 hours the 4 or 5 times I've emailed him. Great video Larry!
Hey Larry! Shoutout to you at i684s btw exit 3/2 1340hrs. Tried to wave at you but couldn’t keep up with your speed (porche) since I was driving company car
If you can remove the damage by dusting it off with your hand. Would you still recommend compounding nd polishing ? The white dust(cry minor scuff) would be the clear cot that rubbed off ?
thx for great video. i bought a 01 Corolla which is painted with cheap Walmart $1.00 spray paint. i would like to remove wuthout damaging factory paint. any suggestions? thx
Is this the same steps for if someone rubbed my bumper with their fender and tire and left paint transfer and rubber on my bumper? Should I use goo gone for the rubber? Or clay bar the bumper before using goof off? Thanks!
Latex paint on cars is (hopefully) retty rare. When I started watching a video titled how to remove paint transfer and scuffs that showed a picture of a car, clearly I was expecting to learn how to remove someone elses car paint or maybe even a buildings exterior paint from a car
This worked like a charm... exactly how he described it with the products used. I tried WD-40 and a magic eraser first, but that only got 1/4 off. (Might be less abrasive for very minor transfers.)
