When we've sat too long or are feeling achy, we'll often stretch our back. But do we stretch it in a way that makes sense? Or do we just do what feels natural? Is our feeling sense that reliable? Can we expect it to guide us to the kind of stretch we need? Or might our feeling sense prefer to keep us stuck in our habits. In this video, we examine what the purpose of stretch should be, and how we can stretch our back in a reasonable way. I offer lessons in the Initial Alexander Technique, which are conducted one-on-one with a teacher over Zoom. They are designed to help you gain conscious control over how you move your body. Most people have no idea what they’re doing with their body, and as they misuse their body, they end up with discomfort, pain, and other issues that they may not even realize are caused by what they’re doing to themselves. But how do you figure out what you’re doing wrong? And how do you change what you're doing and overcome lifelong habits? In an Initial Alexander Technique lesson, you will record yourself through Zoom, so you will be able to see and understand what you are doing when you stand, sit, walk, and perform other simple gestures. With the assistance of your teacher, you will come to understand how you are misusing the mechanisms of your body, and you will gain the ability to choose to use yourself in a more sensible way. Hello, sir! I've been practicing postural alignment according to your videos and i truly appreciate the work you've done on yhis channel. ❤ I've improved my mobility big time. However i started noticing weird sensetions all around my body, like "tingling" in my palms and abdomenal region sensations. I can't say that it is the pain. Is it the normal reaction of the body?

Yes tingling can definitely happen. I’ve had itching and burning type feelings as well, not in a painful way, but just a strange kind of sensation. Typically I get those in areas where I had pretty severe postural dysfunction and have recently made some significant change. When your proprioception is constantly limited by a contorted posture, once you regain some range of movement, the sensation can be odd in a variety of ways. It’s totally normal and typically goes away quickly.

That can have some interesting effects. One thing to be careful of, though, is to make sure you’re not narrowing your shoulder blades while you hang, especially if you hang for an extended period.
