Centrifugal force is the principle behind so many devices and applications. You might know centrifugal pumps, centrifugal governours, etc., But, have you ever heard of a clutch that works on the centrifugal force?
In this video, we have explained what centrifugal clutches are, its construction, working, applications, advantages and disadvantages.
Centrifugal Clutch is an automatic clutch that is controlled by the engine speed by means of the gas pedal. Here, centrifugal force plays a pivotal role in the clutching operation. When the speed of the engine increases, the clutch engages automatically because of the developed centrifugal force. Similarly, it disengages when the speed decreases.
Centrifugal clutches are commonly used in scooters, mopeds, go-karts and lawnmowers. These clutches are simple in construction and operation. Also, they do not require a clutch plate. But, overheating and the possibility of slips are major disadvantages of centrifugal clutches.
That’s all about centrifugal clutches. Stay tuned for more interesting videos.

Thank you! You went straight to the point with out an unnecessarily over done intro and just explained the exact topic. You explained it short and simple. That's all and I thank you for that.

Having just changed the clutch on my petrol strimmer engine, I was amazed by the strength of the spring holding the clutch arms and the ability of a small engine to fling these two pads outwards to engage the drive.. Thanks for a simple explanation and whilst I still find it shocking that the force from the spinning allows such a strong tension to be overcome, from your animation, it IS fact..

Straight forward! I like to have a second person confirm opporations somtimes! I find that helpful when making designs and purchasing items online! I'm guessing this would be a good design and the I'm building a pit bike and don't want it moving one me so I can keep the kick stand on! Also why add complicated parts or engines for that matter when I can use what I have around! I just need an affordable centerfugal clutch. Shit, I threw out my chain saws! They might have had some good parts
