I guess nobody paid attention in grade school math if the concept of diameter vs volume is a mystery worth explaining.

@JewelsoftheTrade - While I completely understand the Volume calculations, I think the Surface area of the pearls is what is perceived in 3D by the eyes, as its the outer visible surface. The increased volume could have been more relevant if the viewer were inside the pearl itself (say a hypothetical bug inside the pearl, which now has a higher volume for its pearl house). For example - A 6 mm pearl has 113.04 sq.mm. surface area and a 7 mm pearl has 153.86 sq.mm. So increase in surface area is about 36%. Likewise an 8 mm pearl has 201.06 sq.mm. surface area, so increase in surface area compared to 7 mm sphere is about 30.5% Likewise an 9 mm pearl has 254.47 sq.mm. surface area, so increase in surface area compared to 8 mm sphere is about 26.58% Likewise an 10 mm pearl has 314.16 sq.mm. surface area, so increase in surface area compared to 9 mm sphere is about 23.46% You see where this is going? The percentsage increase in volume as well as the surface area starts decreases as one goes up the size chart. The sweet spot is about 7 mm, and then you are paying a premium for every mm without getting a commensurate increase in the surface area of the pearl !
