I started CBT because it is the most accessible therapy in my country. I actually would prefer psychoanalysis or similiar things. I think CBT is good for people who have normal problems like a divorce or losing a job etc. But my problem is trauma and a stampede of bad circumstances (mentally ill parents, abusive household, illness, death of family members, being raised without love etc.) . CBT basically fights the symptom. Like, you are overwhelmed with cleaning and you learn to approach it step by step. That is not what I want. I want to find myself and fix my broken soul. Because if I clean or try out talking to people more etc. my dark broken mind is still there. This is only useful if your problems are temporary and not a deep part of your self. I feel like I have to go deeper than that. Iam often dissappointed when my therapist wants to talk about practical solutions instead of going through my past etc.
@LB-rc3nt
@LB-rc3nt 2 года назад
Dear Broken Soul...I am going to respond here with an unconventional solution because 'you brought up your broken soul'. There is someone with whom you would not have to spend hours and days and weeks and years trying to explain your broken life to..and that is God, in the form of Jesus Christ. He already knows you perfectly..And He can make you completely whole and give you a brand new life!! He can remove all of the old things from inside of you and replace them with only the new and beautiful!! This has happened many times for many people throughout the past centuries. Just turn to him 'with an honest heart' and SAY "Lord Jesus I give you my life..Please take it and make it what you want it to be..(because I surely can not fix it myself. ) " If you're sincere, he will do just that!! If you want to hear some stories of very broken people who have been mended and made whole by Him, go to The "Brooklyn" Tabernacle Choir 'testimonies site'.. Many people there had come from extremely abusive, broken, addictive, mentally ill and heartbroken backgrounds..and found a new life in Christ!! Miraculously!!. I urge you in this direction with the most sincere wishes for your life to become completely happy and whole!!..God speed you to himself..through Christ!! My heartfelt love and prayers go with you...

Effective is that CBT starts with a persons here-and-now thoughts (then feelings & behavior they cause.) Positive thought is powerful. "The reality of man is his thought, not his material body. The thought force and the animal force are partners. Although man is part of the animal creation, he possesses a power of thought superior to all other created beings." ~ Baha'i Faith

Thank you for sharing your lived experience. By sharing what you’ve gone through, others know that they aren’t alone. f you are in need of more support for your symptoms, the NAMI National Warmline Directory is a great resource, unlike a hotline for those in immediate crisis, warmlines provide early intervention with emotional support that can prevent a crisis - and a more costly 911 call or ER visit. The lines are typically free, confidential peer-support services staffed by volunteers or paid employees who have experienced mental health conditions themselves. For a list of where to find this service in your area please check out the link here -> www.nami.org/NAMI/media/NAMI-Media/BlogImageArchive/2020/NAMI-National-HelpLine-WarmLine-Directory-3-11-20.pdf

Yep. It is true. Many work environments are contentious. I've read that a high number of people report bully behavior at jobs. Cognitive Behavior Therapy demands that people should be in denial. I actually thought CBT did more harm to me than good. It's a sad thing but these counselors make money no matter if their services work or not. The point is to sell the books. So if people buy two CBT books the author and publisher already made money and made a gain off of it. It doesn't matter that it works all that matters is the books are selling.

If you find something that works for you fine, that is just fine for you. Now, I didn't write one NEEDS to be in denial. Because needing to be in denial probably means something specific.Though I wrote my comments a long time ago anyways. The comment that sometimes a person REALLY is disliked is pretty honest. Just been diagnosed with ADHD, ASD & OCD. I feel like my world has spiralled further due to the thought that if I had known sooner I could have done something about the last 42 years of my complete (oblivious) life and made it better. Most will say you shouldn’t dwell on the past… you’re right but let me tell you something that it’s easy for you to say. It is not easy when like I say just finding out I have disabilities as well to add to the others it really angers me and I feel cheated! Child abuse felt like the norm growing up as I thought parents must beat their kids severely with blunt force when the child had done wrong but no that lasted 14 yrs and finding out at the age of 14 that this is not normal when I visit a friends house for the first time and found out that’s not the way I’m treated just how I saw how they was with each other… that put me into a serious addiction phase for 4 years which led to a complete breakdown. I could go on and on but I shouldn’t dwell on it they say?! Not easy to do but I am trying to be positive by getting the help I need and only then, hopefully, I’ll stop feeling like I wanna die most days. 🤞🏻

Picture a decade of fighting against 10 million or more individuals who kicked you to the ground every single time you stood up. Purposely they kept you defeated...for over a decade. I want to mention that being diagnosed with many co-morbid conditions AND having had undiagnosed ADHD for YEARS, it is worth noting if CBT in not effective for certain patients who are diagnosed with simply BPD, anxiety or depression, it could be that they are not able to access the pre-frontal cortex and a change in medication (stimulants or non-stimulants) may be the push they need to access that part of the brain that understands. I was on anti-depressants and was still not able to identify my thoughts. It just felt like that part of my brain did not exist. When I later on took stimulants as part of my treatment, I finally was able to "see" that part of my brain that does the thinking and was able to then identify that the negative thoughts came from external forces from the past, and was able to separate them from myself. Don't be too quick to right off patients as being difficult to treat when potentially they have been misdiagnosed.

All the characters herein are cartoons. Warning about no connection to real people. It says the thoughts are reinterpreted in positive terms (or non-negative thoughts). This technique makes sense where such thoughts are in fact incorrect, irrational or unduly pessimistic. However, a negative thought is not necessarily an incorrect one and therapeutically “correcting” an accurate belief might be setting up the client for heartache. Example: client, “I believe I can’t sing”. (Actually client can’t stay on key). Therapist, “Maybe you just need voice lessons and more practice”. “Ok”.

It’s a lot of self work and mindfulness practices won’t work right away. But keep doing it and you’ll start to learn how to trick your mind into thinking of the here and now

CBT is good for ordinary life. The day to day. It's all out the window during a traumatic event and working through trauma. My trauma is a year old now. I'm willing to give this a shot because I am ready to heal and move forward. I think that's the most important element for CBT success. The client has to be on the other side of the trauma and ready to heal in order for it to be effective. I was first taught CBT during my traumatic event and its a joke when your brain is in shock and in survival mode. I dont care what studies say, each person is different, and the effectiveness varies based one where the client's journey is in the moment.

I am generally a positive person but I believe I need professional help ( Neuropsychologist ) in my case.

Perhaps, I should listen again. Because here’s where I feel skeptical. Is it negative thought or is it the ability to discern? Is it encouraged to just “positive realities away”? Does it mean to negate some of the truths and realities you pickup on? And, yes, I feel narcissistic for asking.
@moviedaydream6778
@moviedaydream6778 2 года назад
Thats a good question. Here is my take, as someone in the Avoidant-personality espectrum... I believe your skepticism is important, but I dont think this is about blind positivity or reality denial. "My people" and people with narcissistic personalities, have a tendency to exagerate facts negatively, with different, yet equaly destructive behavioral results. The Avoidant will shut down, the Narc will explode. I think its about recognizing the thought pattern that leads to fact distortion (and the creation of a alternate reality based on victimhood and beliefs of persecution), so that we can function without so many life-dificulting triggers.

I'm a mental health (MH) professional. I will tell you now, that the best thing I ever did for my own mental health (which many of us MH professionals neglect), was to cut out all the negative ppl from my life. I simply stopped communicating with them - no explanation or anything. I'd had to move from a place I loved to my old town to help care for my Dad, who unfortunately became ill. As soon as I contacted one of my so called friends I'd known for many years, she immediately started complaining about everything in her life - as she always does. She had gotten ill quite a few years ago, but is better now thanks to live saving medication, so I never called her out re her negative behaviour (and I'm a pretty straight forward person). I'd know this person about 40 years. The very last straw came when she started telling me how to do my job - an area that she has never worked in, or even been associated with. She has always been a know it all type of person - and thinks she is better than everyone else. We had an unproductive argument, and I just said I have to go as I was tired - I'd gotten stuck in an airport about 2 nights before, so wasn't happy about sleeping on a chair all night, and was still horribly jet lagged. My friend also knew this but did not offer any words of sympathy etc. I thought long and hard re our argument and about how this person had always put me down over the years, never supporting me, whereas I'd supported her pretty much through everything. I wondered why I tolerated her behaviour, then just decided that I did not need to. I was feeding her ego - giving her an ear to complain to re everything - MH professionals unfortunately get that all the time. So I cut her out of my life, and everyone else who is negative. I don't live here permanently anyway, but have to stay here for now. Ask yourself: why do you tolerate everyone else's criticism? Do they know - or care - re your life circumstances? The best thing to do is tell them straight that you don't appreciate their criticism but rather, a helpful ear would be better - nobody has all the solutions to your life problems. Otherwise, if they continue to be negative either ignore them, or simply don't contact them - they will get the message eventually. Or if you don't want to do that, one friend told me she just agreed with the negative cricitism, said 'You're probably right!', smiled, said Bye then walked away. This would not work for me however. I can't tell you now how wonderful it is to not be around those ppl anymore!! Nobody needs more criticism in their life. Do not tolerate it and don't be made to feel guilty for not seeing those ppl - you deserve better friends than negative ones in your life!!
@bittersweetindustryexecutive
@Tasha Morriss Great story! I'm not a medical professional at all. But I do feel that NOBODY should ever let someone put you down for bo reason at all. The fact that the circumstances took you to a different place and made it easier for you to distance yourself from this toxic 'friend' and all of the negativity that surrounds her, makes me feel as though you tolerated her in your life just to say "she's my friend' . Without paying any real attention to what she's actually bringing to the table. My guess is that it probably started out as a one sided relationship ,with you mainly being 'the ear' to her issues and complaints, over time progressing into you not being able to rid yourself from the 'role' you've been playing for a substancial period of time. Having said that, there must have been something in it for you as well. Or maybe you've kinda been 'the ear' pretty much your whole life, so it's a familar pattern to you. Glad you finally made that C change and good luck on that path :)

wish I didn't have much of an appetite, lol, but then, I've not actually been diagnosed with a mental illness--you'd think all this is just normal human reaction that happens all the time (which is what many of us see in this world)
