I once structured a lease for a client on a Bugatti Veyron. We had done a 72 month term at $31,000 per month, lol.

I've been a banker for 32 years. The information here is top notch. In the 90's, I was the top indirect lender in the nation, booking $300 million in car loans in 1995. The only thing that has changed since then is the average cost of a car and the amortization periods.

Hi Ed... I love your channel. I have subscribed a while back and usu watch your vids just before I go to bed (nice bedtime stories). I have always been a car guy thru and thru... they are a real passion of mine. I thought about starting a small dealership of iconic, low mile, vehicles, but Mich changed their laws and made it much more difficult to start. Anyway, the crux of my question is: where do you do your market research? What sources do you use in valuation of a vehicle? I heard you mention a "black book"? What are good resources for market research for car enthusiasts who do not have a dealer license? Thank you if you took the time to read this, I am a big fan of you and your channel. It is your channel that has me thinking that I might one day get into a 911 or Cayman. Much love !

I was an indirect lender for years and this guy's explanation is spot on. I spent a few years financing yachts after cars and its much different than this, but his video is also a good explanation for all autofinancing because it pretty much works the same. One area he didn't cover is Gap Insurance for these cars. I don't know if its available, but if it is, and you can't simply right a check for the balance difference, buy the Gap Insurance.

The age thing with interest is definitely accurate. When I bought my car the bank told me 2.9% if it was a 2008 and 1.79% if was a 2009 model.

Evan's Garage The cars were the exact same model, trim/optioned out, mileage and similar history reports? I'm no expert on the field but I've been selling used cars for quite a long time and seems just strange to think that the year was they only reason the would drop the interest rate 40% simply due to the fact it was a single year newer.

Unfortunately this is the lay of the land. You've never went to get a bank to get a car loan and look at there chart. They sometimes read. 2 years old and newer. 1.9% interest. More than 2 years to 4 years old. 2.9 %. More than 4 years old to 5 yrs old. 4%...So on and so fourth.

Except the value of the car is much higher which opens other avenues of financing which would not be available or would not be practical in a car valued at a lower price. Other variables such as the percentage value over your previous loan would not necessarily be factors when purchasing a vehicle at a lower price point.

@michaelevans3766

Yup, this is so true. A long time ago, I overextended when I bought my BMW motorbike, then lost all my overtime. Never again. Now, I’ve only used finance if it’s cheaper than using my savings - ( interest versus tax implications). So many people don’t realise that if you can’t afford it - you cannot afford it - simple as that. Also - be really sure you know why you want “that” car. I’ve had some fabulous cars. But my all time favourite everyday was a £4000 everyday Saab - limited edition Viggen, highly tuned, and tried to kill me daily, but wow, it was a lot of fun every morning. Because it’s expensive, it doesn’t mean it’s good. Buy the car you WANT not the car others say you should have.

You are speaking the truth. I owed plenty of reg cars at a young age. My score was 525 so I started fresh with a new Dodge Caliber. I had to buy my credit back. 9 yrs later trading up in cars and payments and 8 cars later finally getting Porsche 991s cab and Porsche Panamera GTS and VW Passat paying a total of $3800.00 a month in car notes. Now finally trading both Porsche’s in to get a preowned Lamborghini huracan. I knew I had to prove I could make the payments for a long time and on time. Now my dreams are coming true. I Had equity in both cars and now my note is $2500 a month still got the VW for $480 as the daily driver. My total salary clearly is not enough to afford the car but the bank did it anyway because I never missed a payment. And now I’m paying less per month for the car of my dreams 🤣

Thank you for asking. For me, I might want to address: 1) planning for future costs of a car, just because you can afford an $80k car, doesn't mean that you've planned well enough for the $10k clutch job. 2.) The extended loan periods can be right for the right person in the right situation, but people only see the end payment and a 10yr loan is generally a bad idea for most people wanting to buy an exotic. 3.) Maybe address issues around factory warranties and extended warranties on exotics? GAP coverage, etc. Just my $.02. I tend to buy my cars with a large chunk down and then pay them off quickly (under 2 yrs) because I hate debt, but that's me. To me, buying an exotic/expensive car needs a fair amount of forethought and planning. Again, just my $.02.

Very very informative!!! A large part of me would simply want to pay cash for an exotic car (or any car for that matter!) and not have to worry about financing. People will bitch about interest rate spreads and how I can invest the money elsewhere and that's fine, I get it. Really though, if you're going to be sweating over putting down $150k to own a used entry level exotic car, you shouldn't be buying a car like that yet since you actually can't actually afford the opportunity cost of having $150k in your car as opposed to compounding in the market. Paying cash is the truest check on what you can actually afford.

Could you do a video like this explaining exotic car insurance?
@EdBolian
@EdBolian 6 лет назад
I certainly can. There is a lot less that goes into it. It works very much like regular car insurance. If you have any specific questions I can try to answer them here.

+Ed Bolian It just works the same as any other car insurance right? Except it's more expensive? I'm not sure I can think of any way it'd be different other than the insurance company not know what exactly the car is worth. There's certain insurance companies that cater more to exotic cars though? They'd know what they're worth more than Geico would. Geico and AAA and Farmers and such just uses Kelly Blue Book to determine the value of your car but it's not so simple with a one of 300 Lamborghini right?

Very good informational video! The majority of it can even be used for people looking to buy an average vehicle.

Can you do a video on leasing? How it works, what to look for in a good lease, and how to get out of one if you want or need to.

What are some good investment exotics for the next 2-5 years?
@EdBolian
@EdBolian 6 лет назад
Manual Aston DBS, Lotus Exige, Porsche 997 GT2 (non RS), Spykers, Manual Lamborghini Murcielagos and Gallardos.

Ed, do you think the values of the manual Lambos have bottomed out yet? What kind of climb do you foresee in the next 5-10 years? Both the Murcielago and Gallardo are tops on my list especially if I could find a way to "break even" or better.
@EdBolian
@EdBolian 6 лет назад
Absolutely. Manual Murcielagos have gone up by at least 25% in the last 2 years, maybe 50% in some cases. Gallardo are creeping up a bit more slowly but buy ASAP. There are lists of each on VINwiki. I think there are less than 300 manual Gallardos in the US.

Is it ever better to pay cash for an exotic car outright? I take it that the answer is no if you can get a decent loan.
@VINwiki
@VINwiki 6 лет назад
It is an easy calculation. If you can investment the money elsewhere and get a rate of return that is higher than the car interest rate and your reduction of the loan balance is going to be faster than the depreciation of the car, you should take the loan.

Ed, Very informative I never knew how the 0% financing really worked, now I do. With your voice you could take over for Tony Robbins anytime. I would listen to you read Ikea furniture assembly directions.
