@@tigerscott2966 show your equation mate, I'd LOVE to know how you got to that result. Do you think Snow Patrol love to make sure people are safe on ski fields?
@@HonkerinoXD I know that the original joke was Danny4ft4, but I feel like 5'04" is a bit more biting since it directly references Davie's number, so it's more of a comparison.
@@randallwegman1028he played a show where he had a broken leg and he ended up liking playing upright when he was forced to do it due to his injury and kept the technique is the story I’ve heard
what's the point? i am a big ol metal fan but i have to say that bass is criminally under-appreciated and wrongly used in the majority of metal. even in doom bands who should be worshipping the bass
@@BaldTorment Absolutely agree with Colby! I've seen Archspire, Dying Fetus, Converge, Organectomy, Sanguisugabogg, Aborted, Revocation, Atheist and Cryptopsy + their openers and then some local bands as well. And if you want to count deathcore, Slaughter to Prevail and Carnifex as well. Suffocation, Archspire, Cryptopsy and Organectomy by far the best imo. But the vibe and stage presence from Suffocation is just unmatched. So incredible.
I saw them with sanguisugabogg, honestly I think suffocation were outshined, but that might be because I'm not too huge on 90s death metal and I really like the new wave of hardcore inspired death
Derek Boyer is a sick player. Like a metal Standup Bassist. He says he plays that way because he injured his foot on tour and the low position was necessary and then he just kept doing it
Behs'd correct opinion, Pierced is good but it's the last of their output worth listening to. Derek wasn't on any of these anyways, and jiiiiinkies do you know who their newest drummer is? Total canoe! He's played in a bunch of twinkcore bands 🤢
@@rokko4047Wouldn't say they were the creators of BDM, just one of the first bands. Bands like Mortician, Broken Hope, Baphomet and Cannibal Corpse were all playing would could be considered brutal death metal at around the same time as Suffo in 1991
Yeah, Ben was on top of things. Their entire sound changed from Louder Than Love to Badmotorfinger and a lot of that is Ben's doing. I did like their original bassist too though, but when Ben joined they became a tighter band and were more musically complex. ☮️
Also the other member of Shrum Tomas Viator (drummer of Disincarnate, keyboard for Acid Bath had Audie not passed) passed away in his sleep last week. A close friend of mine. His wake is Saturday
Do you know what underrated means? They're one of the most popular death metal bands ever 😂 and if you're calling this newest lineup "Suffocation" you're sorely mistaken. Look up the bands the drummer has played in 🤢 not sure why death metal royalty would let a twinkcore guy in their band
@@ov6021 Yes, Terrence IS the band. And like I said, they're not "underrated", they're one of the most popular and beloved and well-known and best-selling death metal bands ever. Not sure why I have to say it again. It's like you've got a problem with concentration.
Low is better! I met Carol Kaye at NAMM and later took a couple of personal lessons. She said I was playing with the wrong height on my strap and I asked if I was supposed to look like I play with The Ramones and she said yes! I can play longer than before with less fatigue. Thanks Carol!!!
@@AnthonyMonaghan r/nothingeverhappens Cool shit happens all the time. In fact, I actually played bass on the 1st Linkin Park album, “Hybrid Theory,” on tracks 1, 9, & 10. I’m almost certain you won’t believe me, but that doesn’t matter, it’s whatever. It literally proves that people in comment sections do cool shit all the time. Sure, there’s liars, here and there, but more often than not, people don’t really need to lie about trivial shit for cool internet points.
Having seen Suffocation and Derek Boyer live before, he’s an incredible bass player and his technical ability is incredible. He is, without doubt, one of the best bass players in death metal, really, metal in general.
He’s freakishly good. He hammers down hard with his plucking hand, striking the strings in a very physical manner. Gives an extremely punchy sound that cuts through the mix, but requires a ton of strength. An absolute BEAST of a player
Derek Boyer is an absolute legend, I saw Suffocation last year and they did a pre-show meet and greet, the guy was super chill and funny as hell too I'm pretty sure his behs was custom built for him specifically so he can play it upright like that, it looks so fucking cool when he hits that power-stance and starts headbanging away!
I was just about to mention seeing a band where the bass was touching the floor. That was suffocation lmao. The craziest part about their band is the guitarists hairline.
Cuban heels. Gotta be the weirdest name I've ever heard for cowboy boots, pointed toe boots, or riding heel boots. Though when I lived in New York the older guys called them Puerto Rican Fence Climbers so...
Bro, almost everyone you'll meet in the deathmetal scene is nice. I've been drumming in one band or the other since 97'. It's rare when you run into someone that's a dick.
I actually saw suffocation live!!! Amazing band, amazing guys, amazing show. I didnt really notice the bassist since the pits were insane and i was headbanging slightly too much 😂
I've known Derek since he moved to Long Island and joined Suffocation..We shared a house together...and he's been playing like this for decades now. He can play like thay and not miss a note. Fantastic bass player and great friend.
Seeing Derek Boyers bass playing live and up close is an experience. Homie summons the Bass Gods from the ground up. I'm convinced he's a Bass Warlock.
It's part of his sound, I do a similar thing with my guitar for some songs but I rest mine on a heavy barstool instead of the ground. When your guitar or bass is resting against a solid object it changes the resonance of the instrument, when I do that with one of my Flying V's the notes ring forever almost like a sustainor pickup and with one of my Jacksons it makes the low end almost sound like an 8 string.
I saw Suffocation live last year, I'd never seen live footage before so safe to say I had no idea what was going on when the geezer came out with his bass completely vertical 😂
