As a Canadian, it's quite common for me to hear people saying things like "I'm going on Vacation to Europe" so we do generalize Europe as well. I believe part of that is because when we go on vacation to Europe, we usually want to visit multiple countries there since everything is so close together. (Seriously, in the time it takes to drive from Paris to Berlin I could still be driving in a straight line in Canada without changing provinces.)

I love little bits of irony found in history. For example, the United Kingdom, which had numerous colonial states in Africa up until the 1960's, applied pressure on the United States to set the American colony, Liberia, free. If that's not dripping with irony, I don't know what is!

Thank you very much for this video. I personally blame the school system for the overall ignorance of Africa. You get taught in school "Oh look at this poor slum in Africa, help the Africans". I think this is why so many people believe Africa is a country.

1:10 "the cities of Liberia are considered to be some f the cleanest in Africa" Liberia is one of the few nations in Africa I've been to and if that's true then the rest of the continent must a giant landfill because there was trash absolutely EVERYWHERE in Liberia. And people 'solve' the waste issue by digging holes in the ground, piling their rubbish into it and then burning it's not a clean or safe country in the slightest in that regard honestly I feel pretty bad for most African people if that's considered good the conditions were appalling

If you want to see really clean cities in Africa, see: Windhoek(Namibia) Dar as Salaam (Tanzania) Nairobi (Kenya) Cape Town and Johannesburg (South Africa) Gaborone (Botswana, one of the fastest growing on earth) Libreville(Gabon) Accra(Ghana) Tunis(Tunisia) And of course, the cleanest of all in Africa... Kigali, Rwanda

Some states do. A lot in the '80s adopted English-only in the hope it would scare away immigrants, like California. Some states have two. Alaska as of a few years ago has something like 20 official languages.

Interesting although exceedingly oversimplified (although I guess it is to be expected, you only had 5 and a half minutes). I hear it all the time, though. "I'm going to Europe" or "I'm going to South America." Depending level of familiarity it's none of my damn business exactly where. He'll, it works on a micro level too. "I'm going to Canada." Doesn't matter which province, not my businessunless it's a good friend. I don't ask what city someone is going to in a state, or the county or anything. I get that referring to Africa like a country is a big deal (it really is, it loses a lot of the nuance given the vast array of cultures within) but the example was... a little bit weak. It also missed the very next question. "Where are you going?" "Europe." "Where in Europe?" Either "None of your damn business." Or "The Czech Republic to lay some flowers for Rudolf Teshnolidek."
