Did a class on servicing this with our distributor, they showed us the fastest way to disassemble and what to repair. They say the evaporator is NOT serviceable. So I beg people, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! Parts on this are not cheap, and techs are going to charge high labor for this appliance repair. I do like the ventless system, and it’s great for small homes, and it gives me error codes pretty easy. But keep up with the routine stuff as much as possible. That filter can bite you in the butt and ruined other parts.

Fear the bootseal. Looks exoensive and likely to tear if the struts get weak or they wear out or something tears it or.... yeah. And it is overly complex with all the parts that can go bad. We need to get back to simple and cheap. No more expensive electronics... make it a universal board. Sturdy parts. Modular options. Top load. Etc. It might not smell as much though, hopefully. But... simple and durabke and easy to fix. No wifi data collection or other mediocre bells and whistles we never use to charge us more.

@@quarantainment293GE is better than LG and especially Samsung. They actually improved a dying company that had adopted Samsung refrigerator compressors and revived them. But this one looks like a cashciw for repairs, and he kinda warned us so... it's consentual

I have one and use if for daily use with a larger family of 5. I bought it the first day that it hit consumer shelves. For a large family and daily use i would absolutely recommend it so far. No switching over laundry. It does take much longer with large loads (up to 4 hours). That is fine though because you can load it before you go to bed, when you wake up, and in the early afternoon if needed. Maintenance is key though, ive had to clean the pump filter (on the front near bottom) multiple times and vacuum the coils off softly taking the lint filter out and sticking a hose in there. With bi monthly maintenance it works like a dream. Lastly the upper dryer portion, compressor condenser and all, can be replaced as a whole unit. Its easy to swap out and for repairs. Understanding the mechanics of this machine (which you demonstrate nicely) i would not hesitate to buy this if you are in the market. It also makes an energy inpact greater than just the heat pump gains. It doesnt pump out conditioned air from the inside of your home causing a vacuum inside your house to suck air to the inside of your building envelope. That alone is saving you A LOT in energy. Thank you for the deep dive.

We have this exact unit as well, and it has been fantastic. Everything you mentioned is spot on. It's a bit like a German car, IMO. The maintenance schedule is a little more involved, and it doesn't seem like it will tolerate abuse and gross neglect from the user, but it's overall a much more pleasurable experience than having two machines. This machine gave me so many "they thought of everything" moments. Feels like a luxury item, but doesn't cost any more because it replacs two machines that add up to its cost anyway.

Actually it looks pretty well put together and in a modular fashion. It’s basically a Washer with a built-in Dehumidifier. The coil after the lint filter is likely both the Evaporator and the Condenser in a single Coil assembly -Cools the air to wring the moisture out, then heats the air up. The moisture that was removed precipitates into a pan where is collected and pumped out via the washer hose.

Nice in-depth review. I've got one and I'm getting my water source from a faucet. One hose to the sink faucet. In normal cycle, the wash works great. The issue is using clothes in any other cycle. The machine starts to fill water into the drum, then stops and then after 5 minutes with no water going in it gives me a fault error code 8. WITHOUT clothes in the drum, other cycles work. It's really strange.

For 1-2 persons with limited space this machine is perfect imo. Looks to be well made from the insides, I'm curious about how reliable they prove themselves to be! I hope to get my hands on a used unit of them european heatpump washer dryers to take a look inside! Heat pump dryers are around in Europe for around 20 years now and usually lasting long enough for every day use, if properly taken care of. Got both of mine for free (needed some small repair and cleaning), they do their job great so far. The downside of them: If the refrigerant is gone, a repair is not worth it (and usually not possible). Great video, thanks for the look inside! Happy new year😎

I ❤ it!! This machine it looks so 😎 and so powerful in every way. Can’t wait to own one? Where I bought a new house we’re only allowed stackable washers and dryers in our laundry rooms on the main floor of our house. But I have balance issues so I think this is going to be “Grreat” for myself to use at all the time? It’s only myself and my dog in my house, and I will not be really be using it to much. But I certainly will be getting a extended warranty on it for sure. I got a brochure where I live in Canada, and I think GE give a 10 year warranty on it. And they’re a lot cheaper to buy this All in “One” then buying a washing machine and a dryer separately. By the time I’m ready for “One” they will have any “Bugs” figured out for sure. That’s for pulling it a part and showing what’s in it? I will be buy all GE Profile appliance’s for my new house in due time. They’re rated # 1 in Canada.

I guess it’s good if you have one of those tiny homes otherwise you could just get stackable front loaders. I’m not sure how there’s an energy savings when the thing runs for twice as long but only draws half the amps. It was cool to see the insides that thing is insanely complex, but how does it clean compared to a similarly priced top loader with an agitator which gets you something like the Maytag commercial that is phenomenal at cleaning.
@BoulevardHome
@BoulevardHome 3 месяца назад
Thanks for the question! Anything with an agitator will most likely clean better, simply because agitators are more aggressive on clothes. But comparing this to any other front or top load washer without an agitator, we would say it cleans just as well. Thanks for watching!

Kind of surprised they haven't moved to a direct drive motor to get rid of the belt.
@michaeldamu9470
@michaeldamu9470 10 месяцев назад
All things being equal the belt is a better system - that 'give" when the belt engages is quieter and causes less wear and tear on the motor and other components; plus less vibration! If the belt is easy to replace it is definitely superior; I had a Whirlpool dryer that was very old, used by a number of tenants, and was bumped around through several moves...the belt replacement was cheap and easy to do myself. I have purchased MANY sets of LG appliances (I flip houses as a side hustle) and their "feature' like direct drive are all marketing nonsense. My current set of appliances _all new, four years old), had the stove need repairs twice, the dishwasher had so many issues the parts alone would have been $300+_, the pump went on the washer....the black stainless steel appliances is peeling on all of them. I will NEVER EVER buy another LG appliance.

@Ikey04-ge9gy 10 месяцев назад
You must’ve got a bad set. LGs dishwashers and fridges suck but their microwaves, ovens, and laundry units are usually chart toppers for reliability and performance. Also, a belt drive is actually noisier than direct drive, due to the brushes they use. And they certainly don’t help with vibration either. The worst part is, if you wash something heavy enough, the motor may struggle so hard that the belt will end up either falling off or being shredded. No risk of that happening on direct drive. Direct drive motors are just better

Undersized (one word) how? Vs a standalone (also one word when used as an adjective) resistive electric dryer? Heat pumps don't output as much heat as heating elements (with the obvious benefit of being more efficient), but that doesn't make it undersized.

It is an all-in-one so it takes up a lot less space. It doesn't require venting. It doesn't use standard electric elements for heating so it doesn't require 240v and it's going to be a LOT more efficient from an energy perspective than a regular dryer. This washer/dryer SEEMED perfect and we had all but decided to get one........UNTIL we started reading about the failure of the lint filter to keep the condenser coils clean! This company had how many years to perfect this technology?? But NO, they still require users to go in with cardboard, glue, and duct tape to fix the company's failures. Just incredible. Maybe if they spent more time worrying about such essential features instead of allowing users to communicate with their bath towels via smart phone, problems like this wouldn't keep popping up. GE? NO THANKS!

Seems like GE has been really working hard to advertise this combo unit recently. Personally I do really like your-in depth video opening up things and showing what's under the hood, however, what I'm not into is the fact that GE is sold sold to a Chinese company called "Haier". Personally speaking, I know their products and also Haier's as well. Believe me or not this machine represents a less reliable design. Good to mention that blue door seal been around for quite a while by Haier and absolutely not a new thing. The upper section of the washer containing the heat pump resembles a relatively low quality built probably not being service friendly at all. To put it in a nutshell, combo units are notorious for collecting lint in their seal which would get wet, covered in soap and solidifies over time. Plus I don't trust Haier products brought to costumers under GE brand!

Do I understand you that the heat pump is for scavenging heat ?
@BoulevardHome

From Blake: "It’s the heat source. It’s like refrigeration in reverse. It takes heat from the condenser, and uses the fan to move the heat through the clothing to dry." Thank you for the question!
@SpartanIV
@SpartanIV 9 месяцев назад
The heat is extracted from within the unit. It's more-or-less thermally self contained. The heat pump takes heat from the warm humid air as it is sucked up the intake from the drum. As the air cools down, the water in the air condensates and is pumped out. The cooler, dryer air then flows over the other half of the heat pumps coils and is warmed up by the same heat energy robbed from it previously. Then the now hot and dry air is blown into the drum to heat the clothes and absorb more moisture from them. Then the cycle repeats until your clothes are dry!

You already said it in a previous video. "If you buy a high end appliance, expect a high end bill." This would be great for those living on the first floor of an apartment complex who are tired of feeding money to the local laundromat. The extended warranty might make this a worthwhile purchase. Because of the weight a landlord/manager would probably respond with an emphatic,"No!", if a second floor tenant asked to install this machine.

Elevators don't exist? Or floors that can't take the weight of 302 lbs (machine) plus... 20-25 pounds of laundry and about 50 pounds of water don't exist? (Neither are true.) And Best Buy, Costco, and Home Depot will install this unit up at one (1) flight of stairs, or one entire floor for free. Additional flights cost more.

I don’t mess with these things… they seem kinda complicated inside and I have been seeing increasingly more videos on these units having issues on social media… I also noticed that negative reviews starting disappearing on Home Depot of these things. Very sketchy

Combi unit As a washing machine technician with 37 years experience, I’ll share my practical experience and thoughts. There is almost no reason I would recommend this product. First up a separate FL washing machine and separate dryer (weather it’s a vented, condenser or last on my list a heat pump) would be a better option both by being cheaper to purchase, easier to maintain and service, more practical to use. Ok, as for combination washer-dryers,, in the long term an absolute disaster for the consumer, here’s why, as the washing and drying process are in the same cavity the lint from the dry cycle gets stuck on to the soap and water residue from the washing cycle (in between the outer side of the washing bowl and inside the water collection tank and air vents) now the linty hot exhaust air travels there before any filter, as I mentioned before sticking in this outer bowl area, here it starts to rot and go mouldy. And within a couple of years starts to flake off and get onto your clothes looking like greasy stains (that’s what the mouldy lint-detergent mix turns into. Secondly there’s the servicing of the unit, as it’s so enormous it’ll take a 2 man job to move it and disassemble (effectively doubling the repair cost) it and more than likely that’ll be a trip to the workshop as most laundry’s are too small to disassemble this kind of machine. Then the weight of the unit, it’s around 300 lbs. that is double the average washing machine, if you have a stair case to access the laundry, forget about finding someone to deliver it Any way, just my personal experience 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’d always recommend a separate washing machine and separate dryer, if front load stack them on top, if you have plenty of ventilation then get a vented dryer, if you have room for a top load wash machine GET ONE. As the best FL washing machine is a TOP LOAD washer IMHO 👍🇦🇺🤘

Great post, but the biggest thing I think you are missing is your statement: “more practical to use” referring to separate washer/dryer. I think the fact that you don’t have to move the laundry from washer to dryer is what makes this combo unit more practical for people. No more wet laundry sitting in the washer overnight. Other minor advantages: No 240 outlet needed. No venting out. Less energy required. In regards to the weight of the thing, 1 person with a dolly and straps really can’t move this thing a few feet to work on it? Regardless it seems like 90% of the repairs would only require vertical space above the machine.

The worst service experience ever!!! GE Appliances treats its paying customers like enemies! Save your time - do not uses their repair services! It cost me 3 weeks of waiting and 3 scheduled appointment to which the GE Appliances TECHNICIAN DID NOT SHOW UP! And the company did not even try to inform us he is not coming!

warranties in general are usually nonsense - unless it is a major issue you really have to invest a lot of time and energy fighting these deadbeats...I found LG support to be useless. Bit the bullet and find a local shop or just buy cheap ones and replace them on a regular basis

This is a confusing video to say the least. Honestly…if you are buying for a family…I’m guessing 99.9% of people who buy a machine…buy it for their family and you are saying…don’t buy it…very weird…I wonder who their other .01% of the customers they are trying to reach are…?

I can tell you one thing. Don't listen to this guy for advice. He has no clue how the thing works. - Didn't actually explain one of the main features (being vent-less). - Makes up some BS about a window washer. - Identifies the main water supply line as the fabric softener line (doesn't question why that line would need to be 1" ID.) - Somehow walks away with the idea that the thing will be hard to repair event though actual repair people seem to think it's pretty well put together. You wanna do product reviews, great. But if you can't be bothered to actually figure out how something works you shouldn't be posting tear downs where you talk about how things work. The thing is perfectly fine as a main washing machine. Who buys a special machine for their closet?
