I liked your video, although I was a little confused by the title. I thought we get an insight how the technology really works - I mean the electronics, compared to inserts or plug-ins.

That comparison was exactly what I was searching for though I wish it was more of a singing comparison so that I could hear how they handle the frequency range. I'll stick with SSL E, no need to purchase the NEVE 1073.

kinda ruined the comparison by talking so much between the playback samples.

Thanks Eli!! My question is about using Amplifier Plugins, like the Marshall and Engl, etc. They sound so much better in the Unison input, rather than the "inputs" section below. But since Unison is the beginning of the signal chain, I can no longer choose any of the pre-amp plugins like that SSL channel strip, or a Tube Screamer pedal, etc.... Would you recomment leaving the Amp sim in the Unison insert, and the Channel Strips next in the chain, or moving the amp sim down to the "insert" (2nd part of the chain, losing that rich Unison tone), and using channel strips in the Unison section? How much latency do those insert plugins have? They are all oversampled and this creates latency, so DSP does not help here, but I wonder how much latency.

How do these plugins compare in unison mode, to just being used as an insert instead with the same settings? Is there much noticeable difference?

excellent vid thanks ! i have a question you may be able to help with: i am considering getting a sm7b for singing, since my room is untreated i think a dynamic may be best. my friend says i need a cloud lifter to boost the signal. if i get a ua plugin that alters the impedance like a neve 1073 will that give me the signal boost i need obviating the need to buy the cloud lifter? thanks !

The human voice just speaking normally is rather limited in frequency and color; that's why doing a test like this tells me much of nothing. If you want to do a test, run me a good soul or jazz or classical group - anything with clean sounds and the full range of frequency and dynamics and colors. That's the only way I'll listen.
