In this free video tutorial, the first in a continuing series, Paul Drew looks at how to track through the UAD Apollo interface. Paul starts of by tracking a bass through the Unison slots using the Ampeg B-15N Bass Amplifier plug-in and adding a Fairchild 660 to polish the sound. Paul then tracks a guitar by using the Marshall 1959 Super Lead amplifier and the fantastic Studer A800 to add tape saturation. With the UAD Apollo you have 2 Aux slots which Paul inserts a reverb and delay which he then duplicated the settings into Pro Tools.

Another demo that shows What it does but now how. The world needs more people that know to teach people "how" to do things instead of speaking at them about "what" to do with no regard for the how. 99 percent of teachers tell people what to do but never empower them with "how". Thanks for being another teacher that has never figured this out.

So you have to use virtual channel in protools for this to work? when it comes to cue mixes and control room monitoring how does this all come into play?

Thanks much, this was great. I'm an Apollo newbie as well, and this was better than the UA videos, which are way too salespitch-y (although you might talk a bit fast for slow, bass-playing Yanks like myself, lol) . But one quick question: is there a way that I can record as normal (with Console, etc.), and then have my bass track playback through the same channel in Console, so I don't have to do the "going back to Pro Tools, finding the same plugins, loading the preset" dance? Or did I miss something that's probably Engineering 101 (and I, as previously noted, am just a thick bass player)?

I have a question. Without using any plug in I’m looking for Milk And Warmth when sending my MPCX Virtual Instrument into my DAW. So I’m thinking. If I use my MPCX as a Plug’in on an Instrument track I would like the Sound to hit the Apollo 1st as a front end for Warmth or Mic Pre Is it able to do that?

Once you "recorded" the various parts to your song in the DAW with Console plug-ins, does this impact the playback performance of the DAW? I would think the latency benefits would only apply if the affects were being processed in Console (rather than recorded on a track in DAW).

Excuse my head scratching but with respect to the guitar, it was tracked dry with the delay inserted in the console and only being monitored. Afterwards, the same plugin with the saved settings was inserted on a Pro Tools auxiliary track? I take it the guitar would be bounced with the delay auxiliary track. That doesn't make sense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Console Program itself, the delay could have been placed on an auxiliary track. The wet and dry tracks then could have been sent to Pro Tools on separate tracks. There would not be any latency issues because the delay remains processed in the Console. That's its whole purpose!! Otherwise, I would have selected the delay on a Pro Tools aux track in the first place (or used Audiosuite).

Aux channels in Console will show up as Inputs in your DAW. Make a stereo track in your DAW and assign its input to either Aux 1 or 2 and it will receive the effected signal. Hope this helps.

I started out with a sony action camera and my vegas movie editing software and my cell phone headphones , I would put my songs I sang on facebook, I liked it. I mean the sound I got, the quality. Then I bought the apollo interface a six hudred dollar condenser mic, a dynamic mic , three hundred dollar head phones. Then I use the garage band daw for the simple reason , its simple. Now when I sit and put stuff on the apollo, I mean I have perfected the using of the equipment I have, it sounds great in garage bands, I send it to file on my desktop, then I put video with it on movavi and I have even tried the imovies to upload it to facebook Then on facebook it loses a lot of quality and that is using my studio headphones, using my cell phone headphones to listen to it, it sounds just terrible. I have almost four grand in this equipment and I had more fun and success with my action camera and vegas, also Now vegas is not made for mac anymore, I loved vegas it was so simple.

throw a light crash with a heavy reverb and delay on it as well as some rhythmic rides once the vocals come in and youve got yourself an ensemble! also, call me childish but if it were my DAW all the presets would be named 'pp52' or 'ppdick2' 'ppdickHIGHPITCHSYNTH' so just a pro tip.. naming all your presets related to the male anatomy is that extra bit of sauce to take you to the top.. I have an apollo firewire.. I might even quit music all together if one day I came into the studio to find the M-Audio interface had finally followed through on its threats against the apollo.. I always tell Apollo "oh don't listen to him, hes all bark and no bite.." however sometimes I feel like I should be doing more to protect Apollo.. M-Audio interface was here when the pandemic hit... the M-Audio interface has been through some s*** and was with me living that gutta life.. hmmmm.. I'd better go check on Apollo.. I'm going to put them in separate rooms from now on.. Bye for now.

Unless a project is huge, CPU will not be overburdened, I see no reason to insert effects plugins in the Console just to monitor it. i would just insert in the DAW soImwnt be limited to real tiime tracin and processing. I would insert amp modeling plugins in the Unison slot including preamp plugins commonly used for tracking vocals though.

Is there someone here who can provide informational about the I/0 matrix settings in UAD console? Please share information on 1. How to add channels in the console to monitor multiple sources of audio. 2. How to route audio sources to the specific channels within Console I/O settings or 3. How to route audio sources from DAW so that the DAW latency is not a factor Information in any of these areas would be helpful. Obviously I am getting desperate since I have read the manual and months gone by with little success. I can do some basics like playing sound from virtual sources and monitoring through the console. I can also map sound to my DAW, but I don’t truly understand how to map from multiple audio sources to the I/O settings in console. Nor can I figure out how to create multiple channels for audio monitoring on the mixing interface in console. Your help, call, email, resources, links would be helpful. -Thanks n God bless. -Jamal

thus all these settings and the creative side of you and your instrument is totally tired and ready to go to bed, Got to love the guy that created all the stupid shit, I once had an analog multi track, You sang in it, you have that track, You put the mic in front of the amp, you added that with other tracks, IT WAS SO SIMPLE AND THE CREATIVE MIND WAS FREE TO CREATE AND DISCOVER WHO YOU ARE, AND IT SOUNDED GOOD ENOUGH, THE CREATIVE MIND CREATED THE SOUND , THE SOUND WAS FROM YOU , NOT A BUNCH OF HIGH TECH BULL SHIT, WHAT THIS DOES IS ADD TOTALLY TO YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING AT GETTING A GOOD SONG DOWN ON A TRACK YOU CAN BE PROUD OF. BACK IN THE DAY ME AND MY BUDDIES RECORDED INTO A CASSETTE PLAYER IT CAPTURED US. this apollo and pro tracks are real over kill. its a selling game, they have fifty different sounds for your instrument , 90 percent of which should not be there, they just confuse and hold back the creative side from being productive, if today you put the beatles on a cassette recording, they would sound better then any really good local group on pro tools and apollo and uad , it is it.. pro tools does not create it, You either have it or you dont. Now watch my statement be deleted. it always is.
