In this video we are going to go through a use case showing the different inputs, selections, and outcomes when using xNurbs vs a Loft or a Patch.
xNurbs is a hot topic and right now it can be hard to know if that will make the difference for you in purchasing Plasticity Studio.
In my mind its a cool tool but still the big difference is if you need to create Surfaces or not. If you are looking to purchase Plasticity remember the code LEAD10 will get you 10% off at checkout www.Plasticity.xyz
The discount code does not work if you are upgrading your Plasticity License. sorry

Before xNurbs came to Plasticity, I surface modeled a car using Plasticity Lofts and Patches. It came out decent but had some surface issues that took a lot of work to minimize. Then I remade the car using existing curves + xNurbs. No comparison - surface quality was much better, but just as important, it saved a lot of time. xNurbs was able to create single complex surfaces that required several smaller patches before. I like to remain in the" Creative Zone", not in the "How do I construct a puzzle of small patches to make this surface zone" :)

It seems an absolute must for me tbh looking at this example, as I easily get frustrated if a patch isn't working as I 'think', it should lol

Yeah its like a lot more forgiving for open boundaries and things.

I know right! They are more like "gentle reminders" to the curvature :)

Freeeeedoooooooom :) Oh my god, this allows for so much more unrestricted and organic building, i love it. For some reason, many models i had in mind, were rather .... unprecise and more fluid, and it was always a nightmare to create the curves for it and make them somehow connect. Think of shapes like the Trimaxion Drone Ship from the movie Flight of the Navigator. XNurbs has zero problems creating such a shape.

I spent the weekend teaching myself the free version of Plasticity. started on the car tutorial, and today I decided to purchase studio license as I now see how much time plasticity will save me. The software will be my leading knife so to say. Amazing that within one hour I can do just the same as you showcased here. Last week when I saw this, I thought, hmm, this seems complex wonder if I'm able to do the same if I had the license. And yeah, Plasticity allows a total 3d modeler noob to do these things.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign

Wow that is great! I think the "basics" are the big hurdle and once you can get through that part of it you really open up a lot of freedom in modeling!

Very powerful but that last example had some twisting on the lower set of surfaces
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign 25 дней назад
I just opened it again, im not seeing any twisting. the UV lines are off based on the scene but it appears to be symmetric. At the base it dips in a bit just based on the curves used. You could avoid that drawing the midline and extruding it as an edge to drive tangency.

When can we expect to see some tutorials that demonstrate what can be done with xnurbs and raise degree? You are an excellent teacher, I appreciate your work.

Working on it. I will probably tackle Raise degree first as its in the indie version. I have done some playing around with it to see what was and wasn't feasible but have some examples in mind :)

I feel like such an old man. I have over 20 years of 3DS Max modeling experience and I literally just started a personal project a couple of months ago to model my car (it has been a long time since I have made a full car exterior). I figured there are easier ways to model things like cars now but I will just stick with what I know (I don't have time to be learning a new software). But holy F, Plasticity and specifically xNurbs would have sped up the process and made better results even including the learning time for a new program. It probably took me 6 hours to make a side skirt because of some awkward poly flows and some tricky bits are yet to be done. I reckon I could do the same thing in about an hour with plasticity and still keep it pretty flexible.

I have a few car modeling series depending on which way you want to go :) I have one in plasticity (before Xnurbs was released, will need to update), and i have a few in fusion using freeform modeling. If you came from 3ds and like the push/pull direct modeling I would highly suggest you check out Fusion forms. The 911 series or ferrari 308 series are complete.

@troypinkerton9876 3 месяца назад
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Thanks. Actually I was (and still am) watching through your plasticity car modelling playlist! I will have a look at fusion forms to out of curiosity. I actually asked a work mate what the name of the hard surface modeling program he came across some months ago; was (it was plasticity). Turns out our studio has already bought some licenses so I am all set on that front ;). I am used to working with either spline cages of 3 or 4 sided shapes or mesh smoothed meshes. The one down side to the workflow that I see is it seems that you have no realtime update if you change one of your curves/splines. Looks like you have to re-generate your surface over and over if you want to tweak the underlying curves. I have literally just spent only about 1 day watching tutorials, taking notes and dabbling with it myself though.

@@troypinkerton9876 Yeah its true, no history, no direct link to your curvature after you create a surface in Plasticity. Cool that you already have access to Plasticity!

And when someone proudly completes their work in plasticity, they may suddenly discover that all that destructive modeling can be done for free with a bit of knowledge of subdivision (sub-d) in Blender. I forgot, and looks way better, and UVunwrap is a breeze.

you are not getting that this is CAD...you probably don't need CAD...and don't get me wrong, blender is epic...but it is not a CAD software...Plasticity is a CAD for artists...

@@iamonvisions7393 Indeed, I appreciate Plasticity, but in my opinion, it's a blend of CAD and polygon-style modeling. There are only a few commercial chances to use it; beyond that, it's a really nice tool, but not a CAD software. Serious companies or customers are unlikely to purchase a Plasticity model, though it may be suitable for conceptualizing.
@Alex29196
@Alex29196 3 месяца назад
@@iamonvisions7393 Certainly, Plasticity is commendable for its fusion of CAD and polygon-style modeling. However, its commercial applications are limited; while it's an excellent tool, it doesn't qualify as traditional CAD software. It's unlikely that established companies or clients would opt for a Plasticity model, although it could be useful for conceptualization. In this domain, you`ll face a multitude of competitors.
