Slight clarification: the dragon type isn’t what’s good, it’s that dragon type Pokémon are all really good in terms of stats and coverage moves so the ability to change types either defensively or offensively or both makes them just good Pokémon in general.

I think the only reason Intimidate is being considered less valuable compared to previous formats is more about the lack of a really good user. We all know that once Incineroar gets put into the game that it'll shoot right back to its usual 90%+ usage rate.

Cyclizar has acrobatics. I could picture Sitrus Berry Cyclizar running tFlying, especially for fighting protection.

Dragalge with Adaptability + Tera could also be good imo

Even though Haxorus is kind of just worse Garchomp it is the only dragon (sans kommo-o and koraidon) that learns close combat. 147 is a monster atk stat as well. Of course you can’t cover every niche option in the video and you’re looking for the best in most circumstances, but I’m here to give a voice to the voiceless 😤

Great vid ty. I think a large part of why Dragons are back is their base stats total. Dragon is also a pretty reliable neutral damage stab as long as you have solid coverage for fairies (steel) and steels (fire/ground) which all dragons have. With tera, you can make any pokemon with good stats and movepool viable especially those with dual typings. I think Baxcalibur could do really well and maybe other high BST mons like Volcarona.

Speaking of Dragon types, I would really want to see a Ancient Paradox Dragapult with its type being either Dragon/Water,Dragon/Fire or Dragon/Poison.

The reason dragons are thriving is because we lost our best fairy types in the tapus, xerneas, clefable, and togekiss which all dealt with the op dragon types really well

The fact that you can find frigabax with different Tera types like dark or even fairy in the wild is even scarier disregarding the fact you can change your pokemons tera in the normal type gym

Don't forget about my boys Haxorus and Goodra! Goodra has good coverage and is surprisingly tanky with an assault vest. Fairy type special attacks don't even bother it. I have also run it with feint before.

I think I have to disagree with Dragon being the best typing bc I think that Fire is the best typing right now. We’re starting to see either Torkoal or Arcanine on nearly every team. There aren’t many super strong Water types that use special moves like we see typically. This typically forgos the intimidate and burn pressure fire types put out. Likewise there aren’t many strong special ground or rock type users. Sun is by far the best weather and I’m confident it will stay that way should we keep Paradox mons. Other fire types like Chi-Yu and Volcarona provide great field control and damage with few counters. It also helps that most Pokémon who use Tera typing defensively will use fairy or steel types which fire types benefit from immensely. Flutter Mane’s massive presence influences mons to use Tera Steel in addition to the fact fire types help avoid Flutter Mane’s Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast nukes. good mentions include Armarouge, Talonflame, and Iron Moth with Skeledirge and Coalossal being more niche picks. EDIT: now that we are in a paradox banned format dragons(less fairies and sun abusers) are the best

I feel like in every generation, once we see who win tournaments and what team they use we will start to see everybody using the same team because they want to copy those teams.

You could also turn Hydreigon into an Electric Type; it has Levitate so this would give it no weaknesses.

cyclizar setting up a baxcalibur for a free DD is something i wanna try to make work. Also cyclizar into a paradox mon means they get a sub and a free turn to further set up or just start spamming boosted STAB moves. Bax might be even better when many paradox mons are gone. Icicle crash super checks amoongus and i had tera ground EQ to cover some other matchups.

You could also give hydreigon Electric tera. Since it has levitate, it would have no weaknesses.

Are dragon types really the best ones or are they just well statted while the best mons have already gotten the ban hammer

I have a question about hydreigon. why not poison instead of steel? poison still resists fairy and you can terra blast poison to nail fairy mons, you get levitate to ruin ground moves, you can punish psychic swap ins with your stab dark attacks... and so you'd have a mon w/ 1 weakness that wouldn't dare swap into it that still crushes fairy while being neutral to dragon and additionally resists fighting types thinking they got a super effective move on you too. I guess you can't use steel type coverage on ice and res ice but you also aren't weak to both fire and STILL weak to fighting.

some counters when fighting so many dragons is like ice terra blast jolteon with life orb for dragon/ground/flying combination to either force out or ohko, and outspeed most of those dragons. I also use imposter ditto with fairy terra to nullify a dragon attack and potentially do a free setup of reverse ko

The dratini line has always been my favourite since 1998. I know a lot of people would disagree but ever since the dragon type has been my favourite.

Terra electric with Pokemon with levitate is going to be insane for vcg. Electric in my opinion is a more neutral type than normal just being held back by weaker mons being electric type. Now anyone being able to be electric is going to be insane. Bolt/beam coverage just became even better.

Not haxorus? I feel like it always gets left out now it gets access to iron head and mold breaker combination with terra type steel or poison depending if your running iron head or poison jab.

Something that I’ve found in my time with terrastalizing. Levitate Electric isn’t NEARLY as defensive as everyone thinks it should be. Let me explain. Electric has one weakness, which is ground. With Levitate, that weakness is gone. However, Electric is still hit neutrally by most other moves, rather than that of Steel and Fire, which have the most resistances in game. Its a cryin shame this is how it is, but it is. Its why Elektross was never defensively meta defining like the ferro’s. A pokemon with literally no weakness, but no resistances to match (that mattered).

What is the best Tera type for Dragapult?

I think Gholdengo is also a big reason why dragons are so good. Gholdengo makes it so hard to run Sylveon rn

Pokémon scarlet violet: the rise of the dragons

I caught a Garchomp with terra type Water in my playthrough of Violet Swords Dance + STAB Liquidation is pretty busted Basically he and Skelidirge swept through the game

It's worth noting that there are only really 2 common offensive options for fairy mons in the current meta, and one isn't really offense oriented- Grimmsnarl and Sylveon- I haven't seen much Tinkaton, and the usage stats seem to reflect this, however it definitely has options as it's steel/fairy.. Thus, even without terastylizing a pseudo legendary, fairy isn't as prevalent as it was in past gens (and ESPECIALLY with Zacian being gone). I think it's safe to say that despite fairy being in the game, a lot of these pseudo legendaries that dropped off a little post-gen 6 due to the addition of fairy type are still good even with fairy being an option in current gen. Garchomp, Hydreigon, Salamence, and Dragonite all were available after the crown tundra DLC in sword and shield, and even weaker dragons like Noivern were meta in the early SwSh metagame (I firmly believe that if regieleki and whimsicott weren't in the game that Noivern would still have been considered a good tailwind setter due to it's base speed at least for a little after Crown Tundra came out, although Zacian does still cause problems for every dragon type), so a relatively fairy-free metagame is definitely allowing them to shine more even without terastylization- half of the hydreigon I face don't terastylize even if I bring Grimmsnarl (who I always run Spirit Break on for stab+utility), although this might just be a case of "I'm stuck in great ball tier and people aren't being anywhere near optimal".

They really hit a home run this gen. I haven't enjoyed a new pokemon game this much since the gen 2 remakes.

We don't have Landorus in Scarlet and Violet YET. Genies will be here when Home is able to connect.

Would Hydreigon actually be better turning into a Poison type? Still takes advantage of Levitate, but now resists Fairy and Fighting as well, Ground types can't touch it, and what Psychic is going to want to switch into it? Though I'll grant that Steel takes advantage of Flash Cannon, especially if you end up changing one of your other pokemon.

I love to hear that dragons are becoming awesome again true they lose their dragon typing to do so but at least they are on top of the competitive meta even with fairy type in existence (and to this very day I still say it could’ve been magic or light type and still made much more sense not only being super effective against big strong scary dragons but dragon attacks do absolutely nothing to puny meek and cute fairies)

i use a fairy tarastalized jumpuff because no one expects it and it is faster than garchomp letting it do pretty good damage to dragon types even if it's ally uses rage powder of something and they never terastilize because they don't see it as a threat.

baxcalibur will definitely ne top tier this gen not only is it immune to burn as a physical attacker but it essentially functions as a kyurem + tyranitar hybrid this gen hail is now snow and i think will get alot of play now that it gives ice types 50% boost to defense this means full hail teams can now be a real thing instead of a gimmick cetitan with slush rush, sloking with chilling reception sets up hail and then after 1 dragon dance you can outspeed alot of mons that combo is gonna wreck teams

Nice video you gave me an Idea on what tera type I should give my Dragonite. For Garchomp I'm stuck between ground or Fire. Hydreigon and Roaring Moon I'm making steel as well. Cyclizar I'm making flying. My Baxcalibur I'm stuck between Ice or Ground. Dragapult I'm thinking Ghost or Dragon t typing to increase his two strongest attacks. Still thinking on Salamence maybe ground or Fire. Tatsugiri Water or Dragon it doesn't matter. Charizard when it comes out I'm keeping it as a Dragon because the Dragon tera crown looks awesome especially on charizard and he'll be super strong. If anyone has ideas for other Dragons tera types let me know because I love using Dragons.So much so I call my pokemon character Ryuga in honor of the Dragon Emperor even though he was from a different show he's still awesome.

Yeah but bax can run weakness policy ice tera and get an ally talonflame to setup tailwind turn one and ember it turn 2 to leave bax with speed control and +3 attack. Using avalanche that turn would also give it 120 BP * 2 (STAB and TTAB) * 2.5 (+3 attack). That's 600 power with it's already insane attack stat. With that level of boost you can also run breaking swipe, and ice shard, and protect. I think bax actually has potential to be one of the scariest pokemon this gen. Could also sub out one of the ice moves earthquake if the avalanche is overkill.

Dragon type isn't exactly good in itself. It's just that Game Freak busts a nut when thinking of making every pseudo legendary and every legendary a dragon type. If we look at your list, minus Tatsugiri and Cyclizar, every one of those is a pseudo legendary (Roaring Moon only somewhat, but you know). And the main gimmick you mentioned that makes this pokes better than usual was getting rid of the dragon type with tera. I actually hate Fairy type because they released it to nerf the entire type when only the really busted dragons were being targeted for their abuse.
