It's a damn shame, because Riven - both in its original incarnation and in the remake - has really obvious environmental clues peppered throughout its level design. It's only a hard game in that some of the later-game puzzles require you to assemble a few data points together on your own (the Fire Marble Press is really hard on first-timers) - but absolutely everything you need is provided to you. DSP's "following the pipe" in Boiler Island shows he hasn't actually understood how Fire Marble Domes work in the remake - and he should've solved at least two, by now. It's also a shame on the remake's own merits, seeing as the rework of Fire Marble Domes is actually a really smart re-ordering of the levels of complexity of the puzzles needed to reach Gehn. It used to be powering these things was a late-game goal, whereas reaching Age 255 is now possible from fairly early on - giving the player a chance to actually speak to the antagonist at least once, to really gauge his effect on the world.

I could beat like 5 games in a row if I got to the end in all 5 games then just completed one after the other. It's not that impressive when you are starting a stream at the final boss. He's been doing this for years. If you need help, or want to cheat your way through something (as long as it's a single player game), then fine. You do you, but don't pretend you're some sort of an expert gamer for completing a challenging game. His chat guides him through most games, including elden ring.

Honestly rookie mistake on my part, believing him that he did actually figure out the puzzle... like, it's such a minor, lame win, that I was willing to accept it and go along with it, what was I thinking XD

Dsp is the guy that couldn't figure out the lock picking in starfield.. The first lock... He had major problems with the lock picking and hacking in fallout 4... There's no way he got through riven without a guide.

I knew the claim that he solved a difficult puzzle was dubious because Phil despises puzzles or creative problem solving in games. When he gets stumped he either sits there scanning chat for the answer or just tries to brute force a solution.

You don't even need to see the base value for that colored orbs puzzle. When you space the numbers out in relation to each other there are only a few numbers it could be. I figured it out easily with trial and error

im pretty lazy but i want to make a video compilation of all the times he does this in mario wonder. its a treasure trove of him reading hints in chat and pretending not to read them and then celebrating as if he didn't read the chat

I've watched a lot of content creators. I've never seen a single one of them devote entire segments of their show to talking about how great they are at games and wondering why they haven't gone viral for their amazing gameplay. Dude is a narcissist of the highest degree.

DSP never plays puzzle games. That's why he thinks it's so "refreshing" to play one. If he played more puzzle games, he wouldn't say such nonsense.

A very minor quibble. Phil uses the term "Talk of the town" which means "the entire town is talking about it." In context this would mean "It's on Keemstar, I have ten videos recommended to me about it," that sort of thing. Phil is correct in saying his "streak" was not "the talk of the town." Because, of course, it's not really impressive.

I remember when people were making fun of DSP on Something Awful a long time ago, maybe 15 years. Dude has not changed the TINIEST bit. Just as whiny as ever. I don't know how his audience can stand him.

The way he tries to pretend he's thinking things through when he clearly just read a solution in the chat is hilarious. "See how it's closed now? Because it's not open?" Yes Phil. Closed means it's not open. You have the biggest brain. Oh, and he read "Overestimation" as "Overstimulation." Just as more evidence that he's not actually understanding the words he reads, he's just saying them out loud. Even if he's having trouble reading the cursive, the context of the sentence makes it obvious that it doesn't say overstimulation, because that DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

Funny on the elden ring "accomplishment"... He tries touting that other streamers only beat the final boss of the dlc with "broken builds" or "not legit". Because he's such a coward and a roach, he doesnt name anyone or any specific build/playstyle that isnt "legit" But lets just assume he's talking about the Shield+rot rapier combo that some popular streamers used to win. That's "Not legit" in the eyes of the pigroach. ... but he used what is still considered one of the strongest PVE weapons in ER at the moment. The Bloodfiend arm hammer. Effectively letting him "unga bunga" his way to victory with very little issue

After a while you start to pick up on all the tells when he fakes. The overly positive voice and strange inflection in his voice come to mind first. It's like he changes personas when lying and faking. The real Phil is the one with rage filled annoyed voice when solving the central puzzle. Actually when you think about it, it's quite strange that he has been cheating and guiding himself on streams for so long while never developing a "poker face" of any kind.

I remember solving this on stream and having like a pile of hand written notes. This mind blowing how much his hand needed to be held. Heck my friend lost their mind when I solved the sound puzzle.
