his dad jerry sr coached in my hometown in rookie ball and his family actually invited mine to dinner with them multiple times. very nice people they gave me tons of signed jerry and scott things. thank you for bringing back great memories

I somehow missed this when it originally dropped, but I'm so glad you made a video about this topic. Those late 2000s Reds teams were not great, but they made me a baseball fan so they hold a special place in my heart. Hairston was my boy in 2008. Great stuff as always.

IMPORTANT NOTE PLEASE READ: I realized halfway through making the chart you see at 7:02 that I took Jerry Hairston's 2006 season OPS+ instead of his 2007 OPS+ which was actually 41 instead of 36. After some deliberation I realized that my point stays the same. For clarity's sake, I went back and checked to see if any of the players who would've been in the 41 OPS+ club exceeded Hairston's 126 OPS+ in the following season and only 2 names came up. John Watham came close with a 115 OPS+ in his following season, but Gary Discarcina had a 138 OPS+ with the Angels in 2000... over the span of 42 Plate Appearances. While this is still a major oversight on my part, I dont think it diminishes the unprecedented bounce back that Hairston had in 2008.

These are the little things that didn’t get enough attention. A average manager will allow his players to play and usually not go beyond what his required. Prob Aaron Boone A GREAT manager will push his players to be better than they normally would, and understand what the strengths are. Dusty baker.

Aaron Boone is a good manager who’s stuck his neck out for players too, but Dusty is one of those guys you’d want to bring on a cross country trip.

Big difference there-Aaron Boone def loves new york(I love that video of him partying with the firemen), but he ain’t this expert coach an expert coach is more concerned with getting players to play a their best without a personal relationship. . Dusty on the other hand, justHAS that intuition, that experience, he has seen more losses that Boone has ever had to deal with. Boone was hired because of his personality. Dusty was hired because of his personality and coaching abilities.

@@nomorefielders this video also makes a great highlight video of his 2008 season. There is a video of his career highlights but not 2008 alone. You gave him something he deserves.
