How Efficient is a Tesla Model 3 in Winter? (UK Road Trip)

My first Winter road trip in my Tesla Model 3 where I cover the costs, charging time and how the cold weather in the UK makes a difference to the range. How long will it take to complete 400 miles in a Tesla Model 3, and more importantly how easy is it? How does the cold affect winter efficiency in a Tesla Model 3?
In this video I will be driving nearly 400 miles round trip road trip in the UK (York to Gloucester) during our winter period (the UK winter is pretty mild compared to colder countries around the world). I will be covering how I planned, prepped and completed the drive in my Long Range Model 3 in one day. What problems I faced, how much it cost me to charge and what difference the cold weather made to my efficiency when compared to my 1,000 mile summer road trip. Winter Tesla. Another good video. You mention the free Tesla mud flaps. Would be interested if you find them too long and rub annoyingly on the road when braking, speed bumps, roundabouts or even corners. Would be interested in your findings.

Winter Tesla! 👍 Awesome, nice informative video. Picked up my 2021 model 3 SR+ from Thorpe park before xmas, 30% soc, outside temp 2degree C. Gave it a full charge near Heathrow SC and displayed range is 251miles. Suspected battery not fully available or due to safety buffer/reserve due to cold temp outside even though the battery itself should be nice and warm after almost an hour charging? Similar 310-320 Wh/mile driving back home on M40 with heating on and typically 75mph. Guess the heat pump helped a little bit probably more if I turn off the heating but it's either freezing cold (turn off circulation) or steamy windows. Excited and then equally disappointed with the boombox or rather, the lack of it in the UK.

Winter Tesla. As always another intuitive and thorough professional video Mr SP :) I picked my 2021 LR refresh last month but only just got the charger installed so have just jumped across to Octopus courtesy of your referral link. Unfortunately i started viewing your content after i place my order back in Oct else i would have the supercharger miles too. In terms of battery drain - its defo dropping far more these days with the colder temp, that said i do have my sentry on all the time. How do you find it? On average, its 4%. On a separate note i wanted to ask you about car wraps (PPF), whats your view as i can see yours is in mint condition (washing vid) but how about stone chips etc?

I like the idea of the whole EV movement but i feel it still has a bit to go before i would consider parting with my trusty diesel car i can see the benefits and cost saving potential its just battery life needs to be better more range that sort of thing before taking the plunge for me personally..... We're finding that our Winter Tesla is more efficient than we expected as well. not as good as the in the autumn when we purchased it, but not as bad as some people make out - "oh, you own an electric car... you know you lose 87% of range when it's under 5degC". On another note, we're still waiting to get our PS5 - great videos all through Christmas.

Winter Tesla! Another super episode Chris. I have the Long Range M3 too. But not in the cool white that your M3 is! Ours is Midnight Silver Metallic that my wife constantly reminds me is "Grey. It's grey Bob!" Well I did offer to order in White which wasn't standard when we confirmed our order, but she said "It'll look dirty all the time". And baulked at the additional £2.5k for the multicoat Red. Black? "No, that'll only look dirty quickly too. Remember our Golf?" You can't win. I definitely need to take a leaf (no pun intended!) out of your book and start my own RU-vid channel to get some more of those referral links going. I've just one 1,000 free supercharger miles to go now that runs out in March.

Doesn't using the 'Manual' setting for the heating mean you end up using more power as the car isn't able to reduce fan speed/heat generation based on the readings in the cabin? I picked up my Model 3 LR just before Christmas, I'm fortunate as I've got the heat pump version, I did start off with the temperature set to 19c however it was just a bit too chilly so I've now left it in auto at 21c and that seems to be just right. With lockdown though I've not done many miles so far, so hard to judge efficiency. Thanks for your previous videos though, they helped a lot while making my decision!

My Ioniq hybrid cost me £30 pound for 400 miles Bristol to Dover and back. Tesla still cheaper but price of each vehicle we talking about £10k difference still not sure if it's worth paying extra £10k to save an average of £10 per journey. I really like model 3 and thinking of getting one

Excellent video, very technical. I haven't built up sufficient courage to use auto pilot as when I first used it it just me freaked out!! Re the mud flaps when I collected the car I didn't notice until 3 months later that only the front flaps were attached. Looking forward to your mud flap video!!

You're right, it would have probably saved me the 4% I lost (that's what they are rated at). But for me, the time it takes to take them off, and out them back on again would have been more than charing for the 3 minutes 😂

You call that winter? Real winter as it’s here in Sweden at -25C for el cars it’s pretty harsh. Range for Tesla model 3 standard range plus 2021 model on the highway at 110 km/h, heater on 21C, seat heater on, only driver it’s between 150-170 km. Regards from Sweden.

WINTER TESLAAA, Lovely video as always... but 11:16 why would Autopilot help with efficiency! and an ICE car I am 100% sure cruise control uses more petrol if you can manage to drive with the same speed yourself and not playing with the gas pedal,,, but pretty sure when I do road trips around 200 km (125 miles) I use more petrol when cruise control is engaged most of the time! also if Autopilot is on; I think the car has to do more computing, more date process from the camera and so on... are you sure about it? or have you try to test under the same condition with / without Autopilot ?

I'd really like you to do a video on PCP vs Lease with the Model 3. I have no idea which one to do is best and I am close to ordering. £4000 down and PCP is £675 a month vs the lease which is £540 a month. Such a big difference. This really makes me think that the standard range plus just isn’t really an option, which is frustrating as the cost with the sort of deposit i can it into a PCP will be £700+ a month which is so much more than we normally pay and the savings wont bridge that with our mileage 🤷🏻‍♂️,

Good video can’t agree the new screen is an improvement can’t think of anything that’s better and just hate the map being smaller. Guess it’s to accommodate FSD but hopefully layout will become an optional.

My car does ~300 miles to a tank of petrol. Petrol is around £35 a tank at the moment. If only it was cheap to insure and electric car for a new driver, then I would have got one. Planning to get one in a few years when I have more NCB

Standard octopus rates stink

Thanks Graham! The GO day rates are pretty good, but I know it's dependant on the area you live. My day rate is 12.6p, so that's competitive, and their gas rate is cheaper than anywhere local again. So all in, it's the best rate for me. Octopus installed my smart meter for me, I had one already but it wasn't compatible, I just signed up and then used the form on their site.
