I've been on the sidelines for soo long waiting for the perfect Tesla for me and my lifestyle and the Tesla Model Y long range is it! Been saving and patiently waiting for arrival...I can't wait to become a part of the family
What I've learned after six years of driving electric is to use the brakes occasionally to ensure the discs don't pit from rust. I've had a Model 3 Performance since 2018. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate that. Yes luckily (as you’ll be aware), when it’s cold in the morning regen is limited so I do occasionally use the brakes. Thanks again
Yeah, I was thinking that the other day when we drove a round trip from Cheltenham to Portsmouth. I was rather impressed with myself that I didn't use the brakes once in either direction, but maybe not a completely great idea for keeping the discs in good order. MrsHW not so impressed with me though: "Bob will you stop banging on about how cool the regen is? Put a sock in it!" Hmm.
I've had my Model S P85+ for 7 years now, and it's the best car I've ever been in, never mind owned. I love it more each day, and no, still not bored of the power. Every green light is an opportunity to zip off and smile. I've lost 40 kms of range in this time (and 126,000 kms), which is pretty good I think. I used to have 430 kms at full charge, now I have 390. Still plenty for all my driving. And I'm still on my original brakes, with plenty left over. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted to 500, 000 kms. I'm definitely all-in on EV, and have zero interest in any ICE out there.
That’s a very reasonable drop in range too. Can’t complain at that at all. Awesome to hear you’ve had an enjoyable 7 years so far, and jumping in way before anyone else.
SpawnPoiint it seemed competitive. I’m currently with bulb but their lack of support whilst dealing with a meter mix up with my neighbour means i won’t be starting with them beyond fixing the issue. 3 months and no electric bill yet and they kept denying the meter was with them. Not good customer service.
I'm with Octopus (good support) on Go tariff. 100% renewables, 14.2 pence per kWh normal reduced to 5p /kWh between 12:30 am and 4:30 am. I have a 7.4 is charger but mostly use a 13 amp socket in my garage.
Really appreciate the beautiful footage as you discuss the Tesla. We took delivery on kNews Year’s Eve, so we are still enjoying the freshness of our DM M3 LR. ✨Thanks again for this video 👍 cheers
I'm in the UK and commute about 100 miles a day. If I head to my parents on the weekend he is another 140 trip. Got my Model 3 (blue long range) in September, I did was that drive the fist weekend. Usually I was getting there and almost falling asleep, autopilot made it so easy I was wide awake. You don't have to concentrate on keeping the car between the lines just on what the car and other traffic is doing. My old ICE I kept in case the Tesla didn't work for some of the drives will be got rid of fairly soon. Also the luxury car tax only applies for the first 6 years.
Great to hear you're having a good experience of it too. You're right, it's only for the first 6 years (years 2 to 6), I knew this but forgot to mention it. I'm also hoping that before then it's scrapped.
@@SpawnPoiint I ordered it online on December 3. Picked it up on December 26. Went smoothly. I had to drive 100 miles (Charlotte, NC) to pick it up. It looks just like yours, but no spoiler. NC doesn't have front plates. Really glad to be off petrol.
A great review of a great car! I'd love to own one - but I don't have anywhere to charge at home, and my nearest supercharger is a 40 mile round trip away. I'm actually contemplating moving house just so I can get a Tesla. Lol
Hahah I feel you mate, I really do. What about at work? Is there a chance your employer would install a charger? It would be a great image for them, and you could charge for free.
Nice Video, enjoyed the honesty and the camera was great. As the company car BIK is zero from April this will really open up Tesla’s to those who couldn’t normally afford them, me being one of them. 😄 I’m torn between Long Range and Performance. I cannot get to the bottom on why the 19inch wheels aren’t an option for RHD Tesla’s., as I’m not a fan of the 18. I also would like the tow hitch, as we have a bike rack of 4. But after seeing your mileage claim, I may need the bike 😄. Problem being performance model can’t take tow hitch! Can you send details of spoiler please ?
I didn't realise the P couldn't take the hitch, why is that? I was torn between the two too, both have their pros and cons, it's which you could live with.
Thank you for this great video. I'm planning to own same spec you have. The one exception is the white interior I would like to have. Have some questions and will very appreciate your answers. Number plates!!! Amazing solution for anti-rattle and aerodynamic (the front one). Have you got them from government, third party order or? Sorry, here in Sweden I didn't saw such a beautiful thing, but will investigate it. Mudflaps - I'm planning to install both front and rear just from the beginning. Centre console wrap - are you planning or not? I am planning to wrap it to white colour to match white interior. Rubber mats or all season mats - I am planning to have them everywhere, frunk and two in trunk - for lower section as well. 100% agree with tires logic!!! The one thing I have discovered is the rolling resistance and noise level (EU tires marking) and I have found another tires with much better marks but with 245/45R18 size. I have calculted speed difference - its almost absent. There several positive feedbacks at different forums as well. Thanks in advance for any info about number plates. Cheers.
Thank you! The number plates can be bought from OneStopNumberplate, they are UK legal. I did buy a centre console wrap, but didn't like it, so actually removed it (same as wrapping the wood trim, I removed it after a couple of days).
Now imagine buying an ICE car without internet and Over-the-Air updates. A car that you can't "fill" at home. A car that vibrates and makes noise even when stopped.
i have a sr+ and i think its amazing value for the price! its also my first car ever so i cant think of any better car to have (other than upgraded versions 🤣)
I fully agree with you on the luxury car tax. To impose punitive taxation on electric vehicles during a time of increased climate change awareness is insane. Electric vehicles are expensive to begin with. Tesla haven't helped this, by charging way above the originally suggested list price of circa £35k for the Model 3.
Tesla have a great product ,electric car sales have doubled here in the last year ,toyota Ireland have really changed their mindset in the last 2 years ,some good incentives to buy electric ,road tax e120.00,overnight charging e2.40/200km ,+grants.
Yes it's painted everywhere from what I've seen. I checked all hinges etc, as I'm aware some have issues there. Paint is everywhere I'd expect to see it. Can't really comment on corrosion this early on.
Yes, I WANT IT! Currently have a M2 Competition bought June 2019. Only because the Model 3 was not available. Hopefully the Model 3 (M3?) will be available when I need to change again. Do you charge from a 240v at home and where can I test drive a M3?
The number plate isn’t vinyl is it? It’s a piece of double sided adhesive behind the original plate right? Or did you get the entire plate re-printed?? Also what spoiler did you search for when you bought that one, it looks class, how is it fixed to the car? Great job
Yeh I really like it. I think it really finishes the reader nicely! I went for a replica spoiler of eBay, but that particular seller doesn’t stock them anymore unfortunately.
Hello from the USA! Great video, great to see so many people sharing info on this world changing car! What impresses me the most is so many people around the world are becoming owners and sharing their experience to people like me who want the Model 3. Hope to be able to order a black SR+ with the white interior and the 19 in wheels this year. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to pay the price for FSD, but I will have a Tesla with Autopilot. Thanks for sharing your experience!
It’s really frustrating. For the sake of hardly any cost, Tesla could save us a couple of thousand pounds over 4-5 years. Money we might spend on in-car purchases like connectivity etc - I think they’re planning on selling upgrades OTA?
Btw this is now removed in the UK. No luxury tax for EVs. However - EV grant is reduced from £3500 to £3000, and no grant for cars over £50k - this will hit LR and performance versions of the model 3
Really great real world assesment. As you say, any business driver in the UK will have zero issue with the range of this car. A minimum of 3 hours driving with a good buffet and sufficient charge speed to top up for the remainder of any UK journey while the driver "fills" and/ or "empties"! Also, the 0% BIK drop will be welcome in April (can you claim that?) Subbed.
@@SpawnPoiint Even driving Lands End to "up there", to get close to outranging the long range Model 3 with no break, you would have to be driving longer than is good for long term health, be tired to the extent you'll be dangerous to yourself or others, or spending so long on the road there wouldn't be much business done. In 30 years of "customer service" driving, I think I've exceeded 350 miles in a one way trip about 3 times (stopped on every one for at least 30 minutes)
Well... Very nice video mate...👍 However, you should definitely use the brakes once in a while... otherwise your brake disc will start to rot/rust..😝 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪✌️ PS. Good points on the tech updates and your suggestions 💪
9:38 So apparently if you say on your insurance policy you parked on the road instead of the driveway, the cost of your insurance goes down. Worked me for, might wanna try it next time you renew..
A hello from Denmark here. Well done walk through sir. I've had the performance model for 5 weeks now, and am so happy about the car as well. Free updates, cheap 'fuel', a lot of power and silence driving. What's not to like? Only thing I've noticed is, that I find the 'bilnd spots' a bit bigger, than I'm used to. But over all, it's hard for me imagine I will ever need to replace it. Some day cars can proberly recharge 4 times as fast as this car can, but like you, I actually enjoy taking a break from driving, when going on road trips, so it's not really a bother - yet... My favorite thing about the car is the minimalistic interior! Keep up the good work in 4K sir :)
Thanks for the awesome video. I'm in Canada and worried about some reviews I've heard about the quality of the paint and rusting issues. Any info/experience about that?
I have FSD on a late 2017 Model X. I have to say that it is problematic on UK roads and my least favourite feature. Funnily enough it seemed to work better before the 2019 updates, but now rarely allows lane change on the indicator (I think this may have even been deleted?), and sometimes slams on the breaks randomly, packs up entirely in light fog, heavy rain, or snow, and for some peculiar reason is biased to the left hand side of the lane which makes overtaking more than a little hair raising when passing a semi literally just inches from the huge wheels. Even on adaptive cruise it’s skittish and has random and frankly quite frightening hard breaking episodes. In my experience adaptive cruise on Audi and Porsche is a good deal smoother and more refined. I don’t know whether they have cured this in newer versions of the X and other Teslas, but another particularly annoying aspect is the inability of the air con system to deliver cool air to your face and warm air to your feet at the same time. A standing joke in the family is reminding ourselves to wear thick socks on a long drive. I guess that a lot of this is down to the car being developed in California and the relatively benign environment and driving conditions there. On the subject of aftercare, promises, and follow up I am still really quite pd off that Tesla didn’t honour their commitment to supply a free charger after a successful referral I made in 2018, but that’s another story. Despite all, we still love the car and the concept, but it and Tesla do have their faults, and given the cost and the hype the expensive self driving option is particularly disappointing.
I also have a Long Range M3. It's in Midnight Silver and with 19" sport wheels. Overall, in summary agreement with you, this is a completely awesome car. Personal bugbear for me though is the lack of a rear screen wiper. When it rains, the seriously poor rearward vision is made even worse by rain drops that stick around and don't run off the lower part of the screen. Maybe I'm driving it too slow!
Hi Did you remove the original plate holders yourself and apply those stick on plates? Just picked up my Model 3 and have to say it is phenomenal. Great vids by the way, keep up the work
Congratulations on the new car! Beautiful! Video quality was great, sound too. Music is [pretty personal, did not miss music at all. You might Google a product called Roadie, I just got notification that mine is being shipped. I will allow viewing of Sentry and DashCam Clips on your phone via Bluetooth. I too am a new to owning Tesla. I took delivery December 20, 2019 of a blue M3P, I'm in the USA I subscribed to your channel to see how your experience and opinions compare to mine. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to produce this video!
The funny thing is you see you've not seen many there is 3 of these near me and about 10 Model S' and I'm not even near a Supercharger lol, it's tormenting, I can't wait until they deprecate enough for me to afford one.
Really informative video mate. I would really like one but waiting for price to come down, at least list price below the 40k tax limit. I'm thinking when Germany giga factory starts up early next year, they should be easier to import into UK and hopefully that would be reflected in price. All that said, will depend on EU trade deal I guess!
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback too! You're right, once we see the new factory, I'd like to think costs will be lower, and deliveries will be quicker too.
Great video, subscribed. Where did you get your insurance please? On the comparison sites (and Direct Line) the best I can get for me and the wife is about £750 and we are old, with like a million years no claims, although we have both had a SP30 in the last five years :-(
How on earth is your insurance at £470!?!?! I have 18 years of no claims, no accidents or endorsements and the cheapest that it comes out at is about £1,200! Love to know who your insurance provider is?
Hi, I am picking mine one week today.....the exact same spec - have you noticed any drop in range without the aero wheels? I heard it can cause a loss of up to 10%? Agree, car looks a lot nicer without them! Apologies if you have already answered this one elsewhere!
Great video, i'm desperate to get rid of my 12 year old 320d (which is on 172k miles!) in favour of a M3 SR+. I've been having real trouble finding proper info from UK owners on real world costs of ownership/charging but your vid was really quite useful!
It looks as if the Model 3 has no spare tyre or even jack at all (I haven't investigated other models). Are you obliged to have the car recovered on a tow-truck to a tyre-repair/replacement workshop if you get a puncture?
Hullo. I just got mine. White as well. I am planning to remove the plate brackets and have it like yours, how did you go about the front plate? I think that one is glued.
Have had my Tesla model 3 for about 6 weeks myself, same as you long range AWD just with white interior. Love it! Nice info on the plates, think I might do that. Added a ceramic coat and white mudguards to help keep it clean, plus a few other bits and pieces. Best car I have ever had, no question.
i lease a basic model 3 ... love the smooth quiet performance ... would like a heated steering wheel for comfort and perhaps increasing range with less use of heater... on the same drift i would like driver only heating option as the car is mainly used driver only ....love the big screen but why are the D R P N graphics so small and the battery indicator i am sure will will agree quite important is even smaller .... once i was on a journey and it only warned me to go to a supercharger when i did not have enough power to get there .....Range i get about 200 miles in the winter minus 20% as it is advised you don't charge above 80% and of course it would be risky to leave yourself with less than 20 miles left before recharge and it only charges quickly between 20 and 80 percent so my range in my standard plus in winter is realistically 140 miles.... i do like the front number plate ... less drag i would guess...great video thanks ...
When my current lease is up later this year I'm pretty sure I'm going for this model too - long range. Last year the performance model was available to lease for the same price as the current standard one costs. I didn't realise the long range one 0-60 sits in between the standard and the performance. Totally agree, aero wheel covers off and the wheels look much better. Did you buy the Tesla centre caps and bolt covers?
Great video! I am from the UK and I have wanted vinyl plates like yours for ages, but hesistated as I have read that they aren't legal. One Stop Numberplates suggests they fully comply with DVLA standards so I may just go for it as I think they look really nice. Great spec btw, I would personally dechrome the entire car (handles, windows trim, badges) maybe even remove all badges, makes it more mysterious to those aren't aware of tesla!
appreciate your videos, they have helped me decide on an M3LR without FSD. Order placed for an inventory car, using your referral code - much appreciated - and just awaiting delivery.
Hi im also thinking of getting the long range Model 3 in white as it looks great. How do you find the maintenance of the white? has it marked at all? Did you get floor trunk and trunk mats and what ones? Cheers and nice video it was great to see the colour in detail.
I do want to own. I’m checking them out. How do you find the seat comfort? My car has all sorts of machinery to move the seat around and as a result the seat is quite hard. Do you have to pay a monthly fee for the car to work? If I have my music on my cellphone can I easily listen to it through the car?
You don't need to pay a monthly fee, with the LR and Performance you get a years trial of the Premium Connectivity option, then you can either renew it or lose it. You can use your phone (or USB drive) to listen to the music too.
Seats are very comfortable and the car remembers all your settings, including seat, steering wheel, wing mirror settings so when you get in with your key card it immediately adjusts.
Really informative video - much appreciated. Love the idea of the vinyl plates. Are they self-adhesive or did you need to stick them on? How difficult was it to remove the number plate holders?
Love the video, I just put a deposit down for the exact same car, didn’t realise the referral program benefited both parties, I don’t know anybody with a Tesla to get theres, I’m sure you’d be interested if I could use yours 😀 Thanks Mick ...
That’s awesome, congratulations! You can retrospectively add a referral code, as long as it’s before delivery. My code/link is in my description of this video. Thanks in advance if you do use it.
Loved the detailed video - keep up the good work. Would be interested to see how you get on in the summer on a long commute down to the south coast along with all the other EV commuters.
Tesla Maintenance list: Air filter - every 2 years. Pretty easy DIY. Check air conditioning - every 6 years. Check tires and rotate/balance if needed - every 10k-12k miles. Check brake fluid - every 2 years. Winter care for brakes if you live in cold climate - every 12 months. www.tesla.com/support/car-maintenance As for the brake pad life, it could last the life of the car. There are Model S owners with 100k+ miles who've never had to replace pads or rotors. Ask BMW owners how much they pay for brake job at the dealer.
Good points on the number plates.my boot plate rattled and done my head in.now changed.got a stick on for Front but Still to fit. Check out my channel Tartan Tesla.
