Have you ever wondered how English kings kicked the bucket? Have you wondered if Henry the Eighth actually exploded, or whether. Edward the Second actually had a red hot poker shoved up his backside? In today's video, I will accurately break down how every English king died, starting with William the Conqueror. If you enjoyed today's video, please make sure to like, comment and subscribe for more.

Although William The Conqueror did die of an injury it was an injury sustained to his abdomen caused by the pommel on his saddle not a broken leg, so I read in his biography. After his death he was left on his death bed by all his sons as they were more bothered about their inheritance and affairs than their father’s death. He was eventually buried after the local clergy sent his body to Caen where William wished to be buried. This didn’t pass without incident as William’s body was horribly bloated from being left on his death bed and was too large to be lowered into his tomb. They tried to fit him in but the effort made his body explode causing an unbearable stench in the church.

I wrote a piece called The Most Unusual Funeral for a king - the death of William the Conqueror. He died from coming down hard on the saddle and rupturing his lower intestine. William Poitiers details the gruesome death where William - who couldn’t expel gas, simply died. The intestinal gasses - from his love of Lampreys- caused William’s corpse to explode

Funny fact: king George ii of the House of Hanover in his twilight years developed severe case of constipation and one morning had to drop a deuce and while on the toilet had a massive aneurysm due to being stuffed up and died sitting on the crapper.

A lot of the early Norman and Plantagenet kings were more French than English -they spoke French and often preferred their French domains to their colder and more bleak English ones -a classic case was Richard the Lion heart and many other members of his dynasty that are actually buried in a French abbey called Fontevreaux which was located in the Plantagenet homeland of Anjou.

@kaloarepo288

Yes the Franks were a germanic tribe, most probably from today's Netherlands who invaded the Roman empire at the time of its greatest vulnerability and established a kingdom there that eventually adopted a language descended from Latin (Romance languages)@@cainanj4311 Clovis was the Frankish king who adopted Catholic Christianity which opened the way to the romanized form of Christianity which is one of the hallmarks of French civilization.

@kaloarepo288

England was one element of their property portfolio! The dynasty (Plantagenets)was what was important not the varied territories over which they governed -strategic marriages brought in new areas as dowries and one would find oneself incorporated into another realm willy nilly.This is why later on the English Plantagenet kings went to war with the French Valois kings because they claimed to have a greater hereditary right to the French throne -hence the 100 years War.@@sophiegeorge2816

There’s no measure of history that theorizes the beginning of England started with William the Conqueror. The list needs to start with Athelstan, as he literally started the Kingdom of England. Some of these paintings have me rolling, though. 😂 The eyes are all looking opposite directions.
