Ever wonder how far a .22 caliber bullet will drop at 100 yards. Sighting in and shooting an out of the box Walmart .22 Marlin model 60 with a 24 dollar scope for the first time using .22 caliber bulk Winchester and cci minimag hollow points. I am not an expert with a rifle but I do hunt squirrels and coyotes. I limit my shots to 25 to 30 yards then.

could you try this again with stingers or other hyper velocity rounds. I would be interested to see if it flattened out the trajectory or not. where is the 22lr +p That would be fun.

Thank you for this video. This confirms the results I was seeing with Winchester Super-X vs. CCI Mini-Mag. What is the largest animal you've taken with a .22lr ?

20ft/s slower? I doubt it. The published velocities are barely a guideline.

So you have this sighted in for 100 yards ?

No, I sighted it in at 25 yards and they dropped that much at 100.

So is the elevation on 25 and 50 yds. the same, but drops then about 6-8 inches at a 100?

What exactly did this video show other than the difference in two types of ammunition? You never sighted the rifle in to be on target and you never showed how much a bullet drops at different ranges.

Sighted in at 25 yards. Purpose of the video was to show how much a bullet would drop at 100 yards. Maybe I should make another video. I was just learning how to edit video.

@@OutdoorDon I liked your video and it tells ALOT. I will scope zero my 39A in at 50yds. But it leaves me with a question as should I zero my scope in at 100yds or leave the 50yds as my zero. Since I run a scope, should I take advantage of knowing the bullet drop and aim accordingly and keep the 50yd setting? My Marlin 336CS is zero’d in for 100yds. Scope parallax plays a big part in my thinking and trying to maintain a greater effective delta range with only one scope setting. Good video.

This was not a demonstration of accuracy. Only how far a 22 will drop at 100 yds.

Sighted in at 50 yards, 36gr @ 1250fps, the drop is 3 inches. YW. 😎

That last comment is hilarious,about the .22 not being a good hunting "all around" hunting cartridge is beyond nonsensical. First off more people are killed with a .22lr than anything else in america. So yes. The cartridge will inflict enough trauma to lead to expiration,however that in no way means its remotely ethical or smart. At 30 meters the 22lr is capable of killing up to deer sized game,if you put it in their eyeball,however unless you put it in the brain or a vital organ you'll lose that deer leaving it to potentially die unharvested. How about using the right tool for the job.
@OutdoorDon

Since it is illegal to hunt deer with a .22 I assumed a person would know. Just as I wouldn't recommend it as an elephant gun.

So tired of seeing that tired old lie trotted out. 9mm is the most common round for pistols in the country. Criminals, police and regular people alike heavily prefer 9mm. Handguns are used in the majority of shootings and 9mm in the majority of handguns. .22lr will certainly kill you, but it is far from the “more people are killed with (insert cartridge)” cartridge. Quit perpetuating bullshit and do a bit of research.

The cam was on a tripod about ten yards from the target and I hoofed it back 100 yds. to the shooting line and rested the rifle on my back pack. It wasn't supposed to be about accuracy but how far a .22 drops. Just having fun.

Nice video...just you need to take some time to aim... but often this is the case with a semi-auto. rifles... At 100 yards you should be able to hit a quarter size target with out any problem. So many time people use the higher velocity bullets . Every rifle is different granted. However I have found using sub-sonic bullets such as Ely " targets" are expensive....but very are accurate ! Try many different brands / bullets..... see what happens. Typical... sub-sonic ( 1060 fps ) 50 yrd zero.... 75 yds 2 in. drop.... 100 yrd...6 in. drop... 125 yrds.... 14 inch drop etc. At 200 yrds...about 5 ft drop. Still very accurate out to 300 yards ..and can kill a deer dead ! A well placed shot in the chest area..bleed to death in a few moments. They hardly know they have been hit.

Most of my problem was that the camera was a few feet away from the target 100 yards away so after walking back my heart was beating harder than normal . Also I was just resting the rifle on my backpack. Over all I was happy to do that well. Thanks a bunch for the input. Lately I have been doing videos about mock deer scrapes.

@@OutdoorDon Thanks for your reply. Id never be critical of your shooting !! As my Dad...a Korean war veteran once told me....its 90% the shooter...and 10% the rifle. Ive learned since.. its just the opposite ! If a person uses the wrong bullet...its hopeless ! My father reloaded a bunch of 243 bullets ( 100 grains ) The bullets flipped half way in flight at 100 yards ! Could see that on paper. Couldnt hit a 4X4 target. Changed the bullets out to .....80 grains... and dead on ( dime sized target ) at 200 yrds ! Your right.. should try for more stable shooting platform. Keep working with it !

@@hairymanonetwo I'd like to see you shoot a quarter at 100 yards with open sights sometime. TOTAL B.S.
@hairymanonetwo
@hairymanonetwo 5 лет назад
@@MrHogghunter Curious..... have you tried sub-sonic ammo ? There are many out there. Ely..... target and contacts work great for me. They are not cheap...but when enjoying a good quality rifle.....who cares ! Most people try to use the high velocity ammo......and most 22s dont like high velocity ammo. Give it a try...... put a scoop on your rifle.. and if its a good shooting rifle at 50 yrds you should be able to shoot " almost " hole for hole. With no scoop ? Its about how you see things....a persons eye sight.
