We decided to do a range test on how far a Rivian R1T can tow a nuCamp Tab 400. The weather wasn't the greatest. The wind was sideways. How well did the Rivian do?
Wow, I actually currently own all 4 vehicles in the video, what’s the odds?! have a 2015 Wrangler and last year I got the Bronco Badlands with the intention of selling the Wrangler. This year we purchased the Rivian R1S quad motor but I haven’t towed with it yet due to range anxiety. But the Bronco has been awesome towing the 2021 Tab 400. I actually put your video on pause when I saw our vehicles were the same. Looking forward to hitting the play button!!
I tow a trailmanor with my r1s dual motor on 22s. Trailer is 4000lb but aero dynamic and round trip efficiency is 1.6 mi / kwh at 60mph. Max battery so 225mi range.
Being in Colorado, your test was "flatland" towing. A better test would have been say from Sterling to Georgetown, meaning have some tough uphill climbs as well as flatland towing. I bet your numbers will drop drastically and you will have to stop and recharge even more frequently.
Yeah. No doubt. The hills will make any vehicle less efficient and EVs are not exempt. This being the first test we’ve done towing the camper, we figured, scientifically, it would be good to see what it did on flat (ish) land. Only about 400 vertical feet. You interested in seeing a test in the hills?
Yes, I think my 2021 tab 400 is at about 2,900 Lbs. tongue weight worried me so I took off the spare tire put all my towing stuff ie cables and tools in the fronk to take the weight off the back. The thing has no trouble towing. When the batteries go, I’ll replace them with lithium batteries and that will drop the weight of my trailer by 80 Lbs. Charging is easy because of the Tesla charging network and I charge on 30 amps at the campground when I arrive
