I was telling some people how therapeutic these types of videos are, but I don’t think they got it. They gave me the same look Valerie says she gets when she tries to talk like this with the people she knows. 😒 A few of them are psychiatrists…🥴 I’m trying to heal from those kinds of toxic experiences by learning to trust myself again. And exercising my right to express myself without external validation by focusing on developing my craft as an artist and writer, PRIVATELY. Just for the pleasure of it. Grammar be damned! 🤪 I love finding things like this that bring joy, relief, clarity, and fascination. Especially when those things remind me, I’m allowed to feel good and can do so for free. It makes drumming out the nags a bit easier. 😏😮🤭😱🤯🤗😂

@@billynotreaIIy Appreciating the therapeutic value of something doesn’t mean someone needs to pay to see a mental health doctor. It’s the opposite. The people who are so distressed they are having difficulty finding things that bring them relief, will find healthy clinical therapeutic treatment most useful. Assuming the therapy is better than average. 🥴 The end goal being to help the person to trust themselves and relearn how to find finds ways of coping that work for them, and empower them to strive by take responsibility for creating the life they want to live. Starting with reminding them of what we all knew as kids, even those of us who had it rough. We have right to feel good, we can trust the voice inside ourselves, it’s good to be fascinated about life (even if people mistake your excitement for being loud or opinionated)🤭, and our beauty is in our individuality.

I started crying when you said 'I don't have anyone to talk to about these things." I feel the exact same way. I literally started painting because of you. You have actually changed my life. I will sit at my kitchen table painting while watching your videos because I feel like I'm spending time with a friend I would love to have. And I look around at all the supplies I have around me that I've never had in my entire life because of YOU! I have said my entire life "I can't paint, I can't draw, etc." You are amazing. Thank you endlessly for your content.

Now, I don't paint or draw right now, but I'm a musician and I'm learning 3D art. And I just love art and philosophy in general. Talking was forbidden as a child, I learnt to talk through drawings. I made them in secret at night and the only person who knew I drew was my Dad. When he died I stopped drawing. When I started therapy I didn’t know how to talk so I began drawing again. Now I draw and write poems. I followed my curiosity until I found my voice. Like you I’m told to keep quiet, but I know what I have to say is important. What you have to say is important, that’s why we all come back here and why you have this space here with us.

I just had to pause the video and comment. First of all I want to thank you for being such an inspiration. So much of what you say resonates with me which is crazy given how different our backgrounds are. I'm a 30 year old single mother from the United States and yet I relate to a woman who lives on the other side of the world. Two people who tend to feel alone and misunderstand but this shows that's far from the case. I often say I'm the most deeply feeling detached person I know which would make no sense to so many people but I know you will understand. I've started to ask myself why on everything. Like why do I like classical music and I realized its because it literally makes me feel magical. When I listen to classical music it feels like I'm being transported through time, past lives, different dimensions, I've gotten my best idea's while listening to classical music. I feel as if I am a more spiritual take on things and you gear more towards logical but it still aligns which for me proves my belief that we are all connected, part of the same source but having different experiences. As you talk about fascination it makes me think about fantasy and how our whole world was built on fascination/fantasy. To go even further than everything begins with one line, one word.... I'd say everything begins as one thought, and while something is only in our thoughts don't we just consider that fantasy. A brick could not have been made if someone did not think of a brick first. Something that has fascinated me lately is how abstract the idea of different countries, towns and such are. It's truly just a manmade idea because if humans were to go extinct that idea wouldn't hold up. I'm sure the animals and plants don't call themselves Asian, European, or American lol. So it makes me think there really might be a bigger connection to realism and fantasy than we believe so to go off your words because our fascinations has led to all of the worlds creations. I just had to ramble a bit, my inner voice told me to go for it or as I say my intuition. Thank you so much for sharing and being so open providing such a safe space for all of us to share.

The most essential thing you said for me today is to not be limited by trends. To be guided by fascination. Trends limit our perception and experience of life and our essential natures. To be guided by the miracles around us, unfiltered, is to be fully alive!

This is fascinating! Love it 8:56 (You can talk to us) I am listening. 9:02 * You are never stupid-no one is 11:25 (it leads you to create) 12:55 ( If people don't talk about you you're heading the wrong way) Have you ever heard the expression? "Dogs don't bark at parked cars." There's a reason. People only talk about people that are going somewhere. Honestly, they are afraid to look in the mirror to face that they gave up on their dreams. People want you to give up too. Misery truly loves company.

I enjoy Thought Time with Valerie so much. It inspires me to think for myself again. When I was younger I questioned and was inspired by so many things, and growing up especially with social media our generation is bombarded with ads, people telling you what you should think, and politicians pulling at your values apart- it made me shut off my thoughts and shut off the outside. I was in a bubble where I thought "the world sucks and people are the worst things that shouldnt exist. Humans destroy so much." But this channel and you have shed light into the space and made me realise that not all social media is bad, and that I get to choose what I let in. If I find the beauty in the world, the world becomes beautiful. So thank you so much

They are there for you to find… bring home… and call your own… again… a gift. Being alone… or solitude is not a bad thing… some people just need and appreciate it more than being with others… that hold them down… I know this to be true… it’s just my nature. Thanks 🙏 for your videos… they also are a gift. 💐👌💐

This shows so well how each work of art is a meditation on many things, not just the literal imagery. Often, the colors and shapes in a drawing or painting are a response to something seen or remembered elsewhere, not necessarily part of the directly observed subject. We loved the gem store trip, too- great reminder that nature isn't just about brown and green. Every color of the spectrum occurs somewhere on earth if we seek it out!

Valerie, first off thank you. Why do I say thank you to someone I have never met? You make me feel inspired to keep creating. That I have a voice that is worth listening to, that I am not weird for being a passionate person and loving the arts and being deep. People do not understand me at times. We put so many masks on in this world. We cover up what we were created to be, sometimes because of others' opinions, sometimes from ourselves, sometimes from what I call the gargoyle that stops you with fear from stepping out. I feel like listening to you makes me understand myself even more. Secondly, your studio is also inspiring. How you decorate and how you create is so calm, peaceful, not stressful and difficult. I thought today, "I like creating a place of beauty". Making a mark on this world by creating a beautiful space, beautiful garden that invites all of creation in like a song, and beautiful art. It is essentially a legacy. You are creating a legacy. Inspiring others to go forth, small steps that lead to open doors. So thank you Valerie. I only found your videos yesterday and I have watched five so far. Bless you my friend.

I m so happy I came upon your video! To all those who told you you’re too loud or you gesture too much, go tell that to people from the Mediterranean like me 😂😂😂. We are genetically made to be expressive with our hands, face, and body. I myself am made this way. And I get you on a very deep level. Thank you for speaking about this. I totally get the fascination part because that’s how I myself am wired. This is most probably a common sentiment among creatives. I have subscribed to your channel for this reason. Never stop expressing yourself in whatever way possible and most of all do NOT heed those people who in any way hold your creativity or expressiveness back. 😊

In this video specifically, I have a question--what do you do when nothing seems to excite you anymore? @carina8806
@carina8806 Год назад
Hi Amber, I’m not sure I can say the right thing, but I surely can try :) For me it helps a lot to slow down, to kind of force myself to take care of myself. Most times, I will eventually realise I’m in a bad place mentally. Only when I accept that I start being better, getting excited again. It’s like I have to admit one part of the painting is not right so I can fix it. And it’s not pleasant of course to admit I “f*cked up” (bc I want to be good all the time), but it gets easier to accept myself every time I go through this process and see it works. Actually, most times I realise/admit I’m not fine when I journal. Simply set yourself a limit (like okay I will write a whole A4 page) and write as fast as you can. No going back for grammar or anything. Just write what comes to your mind - what you have to do, sth that happened today…whatever. Eventually, the deeper problems will come out. And once you’ve admitted you’re not fine it is way easier to understand why you’re not, and how you can change that. And from there, you’ll find fascination in the formation of clouds and dust on a shelf or any thing really. Just allow yourself to be excited when you are, and also allow yourself not to be excited when you’re not. For me, acceptance helps most to find peace. And from peace excitement grows naturally. I’d love to hear from you whether this helps or if you have questions on sth :)

alright, i'm only one minute in, but i feel the need to write already! i had always been a quiet, to-myself sorta person until i became an undergrad and moved to a new city. a few months in and i found out how much of an expressive and easily-fascinated person i really am. i felt complete joy every time i sat at the back of a bike with the breeze hitting my face when speed bumps felt like rollercoaster rides, or when my friends would share stories about their nephews or little achievements, or when a friend's mum would call me endearingly! every little thing would bring me so much glee and warmth and happiness, something as simple as looking at the moon or talking about legends or even economy, aviation or business. gifted cookies could make me cry, fairy lights would bring me good sleep, writing would bring me peace, stargazing would make my soul vibrate, my friends would make me happy, music would make me dance, cooking and learning and talking and doing dishes with the new people life brought me would make me dance and sing and cry and really, in the truest essence, every little thing had me live (didn't realize it would turn this long hehe)

Your videos have always inspired me and continue to do so. After the comment under the video you showed, I wanted to share something. About 3 months ago, I wanted to get away from the world, from people just because they didn't understand me. I entered the year 2022 thinking that this year I will get to know myself. As the months passed, I said, that's it, I'm finding myself. Everything was so good that up to a certain point, I thought it was really happening. Then it was 3 months ago. It was as if I had lost everything I had built for 24 years overnight. I was completely lost when I thought I was going to find myself. I was devastated, so to speak. Maybe it wasn't, but that's exactly how I felt that day. In the following days, this steadily increased. First I learned that someone I love can't be with me. Then the person I thought was closest to me did not support this issue and maybe even glossed over the issue without even realizing it. This really broke my heart. So I decided to walk away. This is something I normally do from time to time. I stay away from people for a few weeks, a month at the most. This time it wasn't enough. It's been months and I still want to stay away. Last night I had another small emotional breakdown. It affected my entire night. And I'm glad I made the decisions I made. It was good to stay away from people who didn't understand me. Now it's like I've started all over again. Rather than saying I can do this right away, I'm going step by step. I'm rebuilding everything. My personality, my fields, my ties. I feel like a little girl who has just started kindergarten. I'm standing in the corner and while I'm waiting for my turn on some subjects, I make little meaningful and meaningless drawings on the paper in front of me. I don't know if someone will say my name or if it will be my turn. But now there is one thing I know. Never too late for anything. And it's not selfish to think of myself first of all.

I'm so happy every time you make a new video! In a world that is always trying to shape and control everyone's life, sometimes I start to forget that inner voice that can still find wonder in the little things, and your videos are always a reminder that yes, I still have my inner voice with me! And it wants to scream and shout when I hold it back for too much time, so I better hear it more often Thank you for being yourself, Valerie!

Hi Valerie, I'm an artist here in Canada. I can see the weather is turning cold there now. Just like me I appreciate small things even when I was a kid like gathering small, colorful stones of different shapes. Artists don't get bored because art is therapeutic. We're curious to discover new things. I was inspired to paint something that is normally not conceived by the naked eye. I like to be alone when I'm creating an artwork or just merely enjoying music, coffee, snack, playing the guitar, reading a book, etc. What counts more for me is the present moment. A friend introduced me to a book "Practicing the power of NOW" by Eckhart Tolle. It made a lot of sense to existence. Nice vlog Valerie. Power on !

Lol As someone on the spectrum i hate sitting still at all ! My whole life ppl stopped me from stimming ,it is torture to have your body movements picked apart . Fascination to me is like my “special interests” they become very consuming 🤩 Thank you Valerie your content is pure gold

I just wanna say thank you for today’s video! This really helped me in so many ways! Been feeling very lonely lately and just felt like I can’t connect with people around me lately. Some people are just meant to be in your life only for a certain period of time. I too have friends who just don’t quite understand me when I rant out my thoughts and made me feel unheard and stupid. Being in my solitude really do helped my art/design in so many ways. Lots of love and keep doing what you do! ❤️

For me, fascination was the first step in connecting my insides (my inner child and most seemingly unutterable thoughts) to my experience. I grew up in a home where being closed off and watchfully critical was the only way to hope to avoid harmful conflict. But being able to find something fascinating was somehow both honest to myself and without external red flags that tell me to close off, when other forms of expression seemed too risky for me. I’ve learned how to connect to my life and put down my walls by slowly introducing things like fascination in my ability to be real and let my mind paint my surroundings in hues of gratitude, security, and individuality.

Hi Valerie, thank you so much for all your lovely content. These videos speak to my spirit in so many ways. You said in this video that you picked out your stones and crystals not for what they mean but because they are so beautiful, and that you thought in time you would understand more the actual why. I don't know if this will be your answer, but in my culture, I'm American Indian, we believe that everything has spirit, trees, crystals, rivers, the ocean, our planet. Everything is alive and has sentience. It might not be sentience that is the same as ours, but it's sentience none the less. What I feel is that your spirit knows this intuitively and sees "kindred spirits" and perhaps "teachers" in the crystals you feel drawn to. They communicate with you, and you resonate with that and feel compelled to take them home with you. This is a good thing, and in my culture it means they want to work with you in a spiritual way. Keep being you and making your beautiful videos. Thank you again for sharing your beautiful thoughts and feelings. Sending you hugs! 🙂

Seeing the featured comment made me want to express my thoughts on this matter too! Right now, I am a high school senior/third year in the united states. So far, it has been one of the most stressful periods of my life! I quickly realized the limited time I have to develop specific skills and knowledge to prepare myself for university. Keeping that in mind, it has been so beneficial to remember: each challenging application and skill can be broken down into just small steps. Since I also hope to enter a creative field, the message about our power to create and give meaning to life and everything surrounding us was so inspirational as well! I often find myself intimidated by questions that ask me to express my true self or identity, but I truly feel so much comfort to think that the answer already lies within. I am so grateful for these videos and to connect with your messages Valerie! Thank you!!

This is so amazing, watching your journey. You've come a long way, and this video shows that you really have it in you. There was and is a reason for the things that happen to you in life- people belittle you, call you names, etc. It's always an opportunity to learn something, to not listen to those people and to go your own way more. And if you are alone for a while and you find your inner voice, then miracles will happen. Your videos are absolutely amazing, the way you edit them, the music you add, the lyrics you say, the pictures you paint, the combination of art and psychology, absolutely amazing. Just keep going, because it'll be worth it one day. You're an inspiration to lot of people.

Deeply resonated with the most things in your videos but in this one is being able to speak your mind without fear of retaliation or being told "that's weird". I had gone through a rough patch where I thought I had that space with a friend and went on a 50 day trip with her to find that although I made space for her to speak her mind, I wasn't allowed to do the same. Fast forward 5 months later and I was catching up with a friend who I hadn't seen in a year and we had the best conversation I had in a long time. We played "3D chess" where we picked a topic and we kept narrowing in until we found ourselves asking the big questions like "what it is to be". It is so important to find these kind of people as they truly allow you to express yourself and allow you to explore areas that you didn't know genuinely interest you. That's kind of what I have found on this channel - where the topics you discuss and the points you make really resonate with me. Thank you for creating an amazing channel (you're best parts are the ones where you just say what's on your mind

OMG!! I feel you. I literally never fit in, I’m my life no matter how much I tried to please people. Me finding comfort in being alone has been such a positive thing in my life. It was so freeing and liberating not having to be anything other than me. I was never encouraged to express myself since childhood which resulted in me literally not being able to freely talk in me native language. I just don’t know the words lol. RU-vid helped me so much to broaden my perspective and feel that it was okay to be myself through watching people like you being yourself. I’m so grateful for you being you. I will be me too and express myself so that hopefully I can inspire people to be authentic like you do. 💜💕

Thank you for this. I too love shells and rocks. I used to live in a place where there was a group called the rock hounds. They would take trips far away from the city and look for different stones - especially turquoise. So there could be a vein of turquoise in a rock. Then they cut, shape, sand and polish their creations. I was able to buy a small pendant in silver as the turquoise had veins in it (which I love) but that's what made it less expensive but more precious to me!

Been feeling very overwhelmed and not myself just always being around other people almost 24/7. I love being there for my partner and trying to help out friends. It was getting hard to even be alone sometimes because I forgot how to have alone time with myself. Art was getting hard because I felt like I couldn't make something without it having to contribute to a portfolio or job opportunity later. More and more serving other people just has been piling up. I know though, I need to have more consistent alone time to remember what really recharges me. Without the pressures and influences on if I am using my time wisely or if what I am making is going to measure up to a potential career opportunity. Thank you for your videos, they are calming and a refreshing reminder that even if all of these things in my life are feeding that I have to do things a certain way, thats not true if what I am doing doesn't recharge me. Thank you again.

OMG Valerie...You are ME!!!! You are such a wise young lady!!! Yes, ALWAYS be true to yourself, learn to be with YOURSELF, find peace and QUIET so you can hear yourself THINK, and don't give a damn about what OTHER people think you should or should not be doing, what is GOOD for you, how THEY might do something different from you etc. The older you get, the more you learn this! The more you listen to yourself, the more you attract the things that are important to you and I agree, one thing builds on the next. You are sooooo lucky that you know this as a young person - your life will have so much more meaning for so much longer. So glad I came across your beautiful videos! (Of course there are NO ACCIDENTS!) This is the first video of yours that I've come across, but I will definitely look up more. KEEP BEING YOUR BEAUTIFUL SELF GIRL!!!! - Linda

At 9:03 I thought: this is so recognizable. Sometimes, when talking about art or when they see my chaotic space under the attic with all the salts, pigments, oils, paint tubes, paper, books, brushes, pencils, stones, mullers, piles of books, natural materials, started or finished paintings that visual art must be for crazy people. Sometimes I can even understand them. Happy to see there are others who feel the same.

Thank you for talking about this. I had a similar experience and a close family relative didn’t appreciate my expressive hands. It started when I was very young and eventually I learned to ‘silence’ my hand gestures. After meeting my husband he encouraged to be more authentic in my delivery of my own stories I suppose and eventually I came full circle back to myself in my expression. I appreciate that you have mentioned this as we all need to be able to express our thoughts, ideas and emotions and be understood in whatever way is true to us. So grateful for your story and your channel.

My best friend has introduced me to a few people that are book and history nerds like me and it was the most amazing feeling meeting them. I’m autistic so find social interactions very difficult, especially if I don’t know you, but with them it was instant. It was like I’d known them my whole life and we were catching up. It’s so special when people have the same feelings as you and they just…get it. After so many years not really having it I’m finding it more and more and it’s a feeling I hope everyone gets to experience in their life!
